Summary: Phil's girlfriend attempts to cheat on him with the new boy - Dan. Phil find out and dumps her but to his annoyance he is paired up with Dan and has to do a science project with him.
Phil walked down the school hall and sighed. He was never usually early for school but he needed to escape his parents who were badgering him about university applications and what he planned to do in the future. He had a lot on his plate and he couldn't be bothered to get caught up in his parent's drama without getting his exams finished first and occasionally avoiding his overly clingy girlfriend.
Her name was Ellie and she was fairly popular in the school. Phil didn't date her for popularity though, they had been dating for a year and she used to be sweet but after a few months she started to change and she became quite annoying. Phil however, didn't have the heart to break up with her and she wasn't that bad. Besides, he knew it wouldn't last.
Just as he reached the lockers, he overheard voices and - speak of the devil, he heard Ellie. Phil rolled his eyes but went to see what was happening anyway. Phil peeked through the door of an empty classroom and was surprised to see Ellie close to the new kid. Well, he's not exactly new, he had been at the school for a month but most of the girls swooned over him. He was very attractive and by the looks of things, Ellie thought that too.
Phil frowned as he watched Ellie advance on the new kid, Dan. "Oh come on Daniel, you know you want a piece of this body." Ellie spoke flirtily. She bit her lip in an attempt to be seductive but Dan was feeling beyond uncomfortable.
"Look Ellie, I'm sure you're lovely but I don't feel comfortable doing this. Don't you have a boyfriend?" Dan frowned, backing away from her.
"Ugh who cares, he's no one. I want you, and I always get what I want." She smirked.
"I don't-" however Dan didn't get to finish his sentence before she grabbed his face and started sloppily making out with him as he desperately tried to pry her away. Phil didn't exactly feel heart broken but he was still pissed off that Ellie was being unfaithful - especially after how clingy she'd been. At least it made breaking up with her easier.
"So I'm no one am I?" Phil asked as he stepped in the room. Ellie abruptly pulled away and looked shocked as she saw Phil standing there looking beyond pissed.
"PHIL! I'm so glad you're here." She lied, "I was just walking along and then he pulled me in here and started making out with me-" She rambled, sniffing and trying to look upset. Dan's jaw dropped and he looked at her in disbelief. He turned to Phil.
"Phil, I honestly didn't-" He stuttered.
"Shut up." Phil interrupted, "Look Ellie I don't care. I've been meaning to break up with you for a while, this is just the icing on the cake. We're over okay?" Phil snapped and left the room.
"PHIL!" Ellie shrieked and ran out the room after him, leaving a dishevelled and confused Dan. He shook his head and straightened out his uniform before leaving the classroom and getting ready for school - blending in with the oncoming students. "Phil! Please." Ellie begged once she caught up with him, grabbing his arm.
"ELLIE!" Phil suddenly shouted, making her jump and look at him with tears in her eyes. Phil never shouted. He was nice to everyone and caring and Ellie began to panic at the thought of losing him, dismissing the act she had just done. "Let me go. We're done, I don't want to see you ever again." Phil spoke a lot more calmly but he still looked angry.
"Phil I'm so sorry, please don't do this! I'll change, I don't want to lose you!" She pleaded, tears pouring down her cheeks. Phil noticed they had gained the attention of nearly everyone in the hallway but he just rolled his eyes at her words.
"You cheated on me, what reason is there for me to take you back?" Phil chuckled harshly and walked away from her, not giving a crap anymore.
~
Word had gotten around school pretty fast but Phil didn't care. In fact, he felt as if a weight had been lifted off his shoulders and he could eat lunch freely without Ellie constantly at his side. He smiled when he saw Chis and PJ at their usual spot on the grass.
"PHIL!" Someone suddenly shouted and Phil frowned, turning round to look for the person who called him. He internally groaned when he saw Dan jogging over to him. On his way over, Phil looked over him. He couldn't help but try to find out what Ellie saw in him that was better than Phil. For one, he was a little taller, had slightly tanner skin and dark brown eyes. His hair swept across his head, a little neater than Phil's but was cut in a similar fashion, only his hair was a mocha brown and Phil's was a dyed black. He was slim too and was rocking the skinny jeans and white shirt look which Phil envied. Not to mention he had black studs in his ears and dimples which Phil was positive was attractive to girls. Phil sighed, of course Ellie would go for him, he is more attractive than me.
"Phil! Look, about earlier. I didn't mean to- It wasn't me- I mean I didn't want to ... I just wanted to tell you I'd never intentionally kiss someone who was in a relationship. I'm sorry is what I'm trying to say-"
"Look, Dan? Is that you're name?" He asked and Dan nodded. "I don't care alright? It's fine, so just drop it." Phil said before leaving him stranded there. To be honest Phil was a little jealous that he was a lot more attractive than him - was that all it took to get cheated on now? Maybe Phil was a little rude but despite everything he was still pissed off at Dan for taking his girlfriend. He sat down next to Chris and PJ and glanced over at him one more time.
Dan seemed to sigh, looking sad before walking away, hands in his pockets. Phil frowned but was distracted when Chris spoke up. "What did Howell want?"
"Nothing." Phil smiled, shaking his head. They probably already knew what happened but they didn't have to know the details and who Ellie cheated with. Despite what he did, Phil didn't want to ruin Dan's life at his new school by spreading negative rumours about him.
"Sorry about Ellie dude." PJ spoke up, sounding sympathetic.
"I'm fine, honestly. I feel like I've been set free from her leash." Phil smiled.
"Well that's good." Chris smiled. "Are you sure you're not upset though? I have a very comfortable shoulder to cry on." He offered, smiling kindly.
"Thanks Chris, but I'm fine really. Just a little pissed off that she wasn't loyal if anything. She could have just ended it with me if she wasn't happy." Phil shrugged.
"Alright, well we're here for you if you do become sad." PJ reassured before they went onto a different topic.
~
"So ... who did Ellie cheat on you with? If you don't mind me asking." Chris asked as kids started making their way into science.
"Just some guy in school, but I don't think he did it on purpose. Ellie sort of forced herself on him so I don't really blame him. Still not happy with him though." Phil explained.
"That's nice of you. Do I get a name or do you not want to share?"
"I'll tell you if you promise not to tell anyone, with an exception to PJ and he better swear too." Phil warned.
"I swear dude." Chris smiled encouragingly. Phil glanced at the door, just in time to see Dan walk in. He wore the same sad and guilty expression from earlier and Phil's eyebrow's furrowed. Their eyes locked for a split second and Dan quickly avoided his gaze, taking a seat at the front of the class.
"Dan Howell." Phil whispered.
"Whoa really?" Chris exclaimed, voice hushed. "Well I mean ... lots of the girls in school have been gossiping about him and how cute he looks." Chris rolled his eyes. Phil just smiled and turned to the front of the class.
"Yeah, whatever." Phil sighed.
Most of the lesson went by pretty quickly, going over Cells and DNA revision. "Now, I'm going to pair you up for a small project which will be 25% of your science grade, so put in the effort." The teacher warned. "Now, can Oliver and Michelle pair up? Zack and Cody, PJ and Lucy, Joe and Neil, Carrie and Jennifer, Chris and Mike, Dan and Phil, Lola and Jade-"
Phil tensed in his seat. "Are you for real?" Phil whispered, glancing at Dan who looked back with a slightly scared expression.
"Oh shit dude." Chris whispered.
"No ... it's fine. I can deal with this." Phil breathed.
"Are you sure? I'm sure we could try get a different partner for you-"
"I can handle it, it's fine." Phil said firmly, trying to convince himself more than Chris. The teacher made everyone switch seats so they could talk and plan with their partners. Dan cautiously sat down next to Phil, as if scared he'd shout at him any minute.
Phil rolled his eyes. "I'm not going to kill you."
"I know." Came his timid and quiet reply. Phil thought Dan would be confident and lap up the girl's attention but he came off as shy and Phil had yet to see his friends.
"Right let's get started." Phil sighed. The whole lesson was spent planning out things, Dan did most of the listening and agreed to most of what Phil said. It was nearly the end of class, and they had to arrange a time and date to continue out of school.
"We could finish this at my house tonight or tomorrow if you're not busy." Phil suggested carelessly. He just wanted it over with quickly.
"I think I could do tomorrow." Dan smiled weakly, showing off the dimples the girls screamed over. Phil felt a pang in his chest - he assumed it was jealousy.
"Great, give me your number so I can give you my address and sort out a time." Dan got his phone out, unlocking it and handing it to Phil without a word. Phil punched his number in and instructed Dan to text him just in case. Everything was set up and working by the time the final bell rang. "See ya." Phil sighed, without waiting for a response.
~
Phil was in a particularly bad mood the following day and was extra grumpy when he caught sight of Ellie who was already over someone else. When lunch time came around he was pretty fed up and exhausted.
"You alright dude? You don't look so good." Chris asked in concern.
"Just in a bad mood today, don't worry about it." Phil smiled weakly and went back to picking at his food. He sighed and let his mind wonder and his eyes scan the lunch hall absentmindedly and frowned when he saw Dan sitting all by himself, looking lonely. "Surely someone as attractive as him would have some friends right?" Phil thought in confusion.
Ten minutes before the end of lunch Phil excused himself from the table and went to investigate. He sat down next to Dan who was reading. He startled when he saw Phil sit next to him and blushed, closing his book. "Um, hi." Dan spoke up.
"Hey." Phil offered a smile. Dan was a decent guy right? He did apologize."Why are you alone?"
"Oh." Dan blushed deeper. "I'm just not very good at making friends. I'm fine, really." Dan stuttered, putting his things away then fiddling with his tanned fingers. Phil glanced at them but his eyes navigated towards his wrists where he saw wrist-bands with a few of his favourite bands. He smiled a little, Dan didn't seem that bad.
"Really? You don't look it." Phil commented.
Dan frowned, "What do you mean?" He questioned, looking at Phil's face.
Phil felt his own blush. "Oh nothing, I think you just have one of those faces." Phil tried to brush off. Dan smiled a little.
"Well ... thanks. I guess I'll see you later?" He asked before standing up. Phil nodded and watched as he scurried away. There was something that was drawing Phil to Dan, he wasn't sure but he found himself wanting to know more about him, despite recent events.
~
The time came soon enough. Phil had changed into something more comfortable than school uniform and was patiently waiting for Dan to arrive. He jumped up as soon as he heard the door bell.
"Hey." Phil smiled, letting him in.
"Hi." Dan smiled shyly, walking inside. He was dressed in black skinny jeans, black converse, a black hoody and a black t-shirt with a white eclipse ring.
"You're looking very ... black." Phil commented, chuckling a bit.
"Oh ..." Dan blushed but grinned. "Yeah, I'm not one for wearing bright colours." He shrugged and followed Phil up to his room. They started off on the project, continuing to plan what it would look like and figure out what topics to discuss. Eventually Phil's curiosity of Dan's wrist bands got the better of him.
"You like Muse?" Phil asked, starting a new conversation.
Dan's eyes seemed to shine at the mention of the band and Phil was surprised at the transformation across his face. It was quite mesmerizing and Phil found it adorable. "Yeah, they're amazing. I have almost all their albums-" Dan started to ramble but cut himself, as if he didn't want to embarrass himself by fangirling.
Phil grinned, "Me too, I even got to see one of their concerts once. I wish I had Matt Bellamy's voice." Phil commented, trying to make Dan feel more comfortable.
"Ha! No one's voice will ever be as perfect as Matt Bellamy's." Dan smiled.
"Except Beyonce." Phil added.
Dan giggled, "Except Beyonce." Phil smiled, feeling a warm happiness wash over him at hearing Dan's giggle. He really was rather adorable for his age. Adorable and attractive, Phil could see why the girls in school liked him.
They ended up rambling about their favourite bands and TV shows all night and Phil found they had huge amounts in common. It was almost scary but he found himself enjoying every minute of their conversation. His fondness for Dan was growing by the second and he couldn't find it in himself to hate or dislike Dan in the slightest anymore.
It was around 11 O'Clock when they checked the time and Dan's eyes went wide. "Holy shit, is that the time? We've been talking so much I didn't notice. I need to get home." Dan announced, jumping up.
"Oh really?" Phil asked, feeling disappointment consume him.
"I'm sorry, oh, and we didn't start the project either!" Dan worried as he packed his things, he bit his lip guiltily. Dammit, he even looks sexy at biting his lip, Phil thought.
"Don't worry about it, same time tomorrow?" Phil offered, wanting to talk to Dan again as soon as possible. It was weird how in an evening he had went from slightly disliking the guy to wanting to talk endlessly to him.
"Definitely." Dan smiled, dimples popping. Something in Phil's chest fluttered but he brushed it off. "BYE PHIL!" Dan yelled as he ran down the stairs.
"BYE DAN!" Phil grinned.
~
"You're looking cheerful today." PJ commented and Phil smiled.
"I am feeling happy today." Phil smiled, for some reason Dan had been on his mind all night and all morning and something about the boy made him feel happy. Maybe it was because they had so much in common and could talk about anything. Phil couldn't wait to see him again, which should have been weird.
"So, how was last night?" Chris asked.
"It was fine actually." Phil confirmed. Chris and PJ shared a confused gaze.
"What? Don't you like, hate the dude?" PJ asked. Phil frowned.
"I never said I hated him ... besides he actually quite nice." Phil added. Chris and PJ's eyebrows rose but shrugged it off.
"Alright then, I'll bite. What happened?" PJ asked curiously. Phil frowned again, not understanding what his friend was implying.
"Not much, we just finished planning the project and got chatting. Turns out we have quite a bit in common, no big deal." Chris and PJ smiled.
"Well that's good, we were scared you'd murder the guy." Chris chuckled. Phil laughed.
"I couldn't even if I wanted to, I'm not very intimidating and would most definitely lose in a fight." Phil joked.
"Not necessarily, you can be pretty scary when you want to be. Your pissed off face is pretty terrifying." PJ teased.
"Shut up." Phil laughed and took a bite of his lunch. He looked up just in time to see Dan walk through the lunch hall doors and pay for his lunch. Phil continued to watch as he made his way over to an empty table and eat by himself. Phil felt bad for him, he must be pretty awkward if he could hardly attempt the make friends. Phil was confused at how open Dan was with him however.
"Is he sitting alone?" PJ spoke up, snapping Phil out of his thoughts.
"Who?"
"Dan." PJ explained, pointing towards his table. Chris frowned.
"Doesn't he have friends?"
"No, he told me he was too awkward." Phil filled in. Chris and PJ shared a concerned look.
"Then stop being a douche bag and go over and talk to him." PJ said sternly, playfully knocking him round the head.
"Hey! Okay, okay. I'll go." Phil rolled his eyes and picked up his lunch, making his way over to Dan. "Hey Dan." He said as he sat down.
"Oh, hi Phil." Dan smiled softly.
"Are you really going to sit by yourself every time?" Phil asked in concern. Dan's smile dropped and he looked down at his food, shrugging his shoulders.
"Like I said, I'm too shy. Besides I don't think anyone likes me, you don't have to be here y'know. I know you don't really like talking to me since the whole Ellie thing. We're just forced to work together so it's okay. You don't have to lie." Dan sighed, looking depressed. Phil felt a pang of sorrow for Dan. He didn't think that at all - well at least not anymore. After getting to know Dan he found he actually really likes him.
"That's not true, I had fun last night. I do like you." Phil tried to persuade him.
"It's fine Phil, you don't have to explain. I'll see you tonight okay?" He sighed, not looking Phil in the eye and leaving.
"Dan, wait!" but Dan was already walking away. Phil looked down at the table, feeling sad that Dan thought of him that way. He did want to be Dan's friend. He sighed and walked back over to his friends.
"What happened?"PJ frowned.
"He thinks I'm pretending to like him because we have to work on the project together." Phil looked down at his food miserably.
"Poor guy, he must have some trust issues." Chris commented.
"Maybe you should like convince him by forgiving him sincerely. I mean on that first day with the whole Ellie incident you acted pretty icy towards him when he called your name. He looked pretty sad when you joined us for lunch." PJ explained, making Phil feel guilty.
"Yeah, I may have dismissed his apology a bit." Phil sighed. "We're working on the project tonight, I'll apologize then and see if he'd like to be friends, he's actually really nice and maybe you guys should meet him?" Phil asked.
"Sure. If you think he's nice, then that's good enough for me." Chris grinned and PJ agreed.
~
Dan and Phil were at the start of their designing stage of the project when Phil decided to bring up what he and PJ talked about.
"Dan ... about today." Phil started but Dan interrupted him.
"It's fine Phil, I understand. You don't have to pretend to like me, it's just a project." Dan sighed.
"No Dan. I just wanted to say I'm sorry for not accepting your apology properly the other day. I shouldn't have been hard on you, I know it was all Ellie and not you. I think you're a really nice guy and if you'd let me I'd like to get to know you and possibly become friends?" Phil suggested, biting his lip. He was nervous about Dan's answer.
Dan's eyes seemed to shine and his slumped appearance brightened. Phil smiled a little at the transformation. "Thank you Phil ... I suppose I like you too and I'd love to be friends." Dan grinned; he looked beyond happy.
"Good, let's start off by finishing the design and then we can get to know each other more and then play some video game?"
"Sounds good to me." Dan beamed. Both boys chatted animatedly throughout the evening like they had done the night prior. Dan found himself relaxing and being himself around Phil, laughing at his jokes and even telling him some of his own. Dan was grateful Phil gave him a chance even after he was the cause of his break-up.
It was getting late and both boys were laying on the bed after a tense mario kart session. "Phil ..." Dan started after a long silence.
"Hmm?"
"Do you miss Ellie?" He asked curiously, then panicked in case he was being too invasive. "I-I'm sorry that was out of line-"
"No I don't miss Ellie. It's fine Dan, I was meaning to break up with her for a long time." Phil smiled.
"Really, you sure? You're not just saying that to make me feel less guilty are you?"
"I'm sure. I used to like her and she used to be sweet but she let popularity get to her head and she turned into something else. I just didn't have the heart to break up with her, I don't think you were the first either. I was a little suspicious about why she was being so nice to me and clingy recently. I think it was her way of getting over the guilt." Phil shrugged, not feeling too bothered about the conversation.
"Oh, I'm still sorry though." Dan mumbled.
"It's not your fault your attractive." Phil sighed and then stiffened at his statement. Dan's jaw dropped and he looked over at Phil in disbelief, did he really just say I'm attractive? He thought.
"You think I'm attractive?" Dan asked in shock. Phil cringed and quickly thought of a way to save himself.
"Well, that's why Ellie went for you right? I mean lots of the girls think you are, you're definitely better looking than me anyway." Phil tried to recover. It was the best he could do. Dan blushed.
"I'm not better looking than you." Dan muttered, "I'm dull compared to you." He added, blushing deeper. He coughed, trying to cover his awkwardness.
"Um, thanks I guess?" Phil replied, equally as awkward. There was a long, almost unbearable silence until Phil sat up, trying to change the subject. "Another round of mario kart?"
"Yeah sounds good."
~
After a few more sessions working on the project and Dan and Phil had become proper friends and Dan had agreed to sit with Phil, PJ and Chris at lunch. He was escorted by Phil into the lunch hall since they had had the same class.
"I promise you'll like Chris and PJ. They're like me except PJ wiser and Chris is crazier." Phil smiled and Dan giggled.
"Well if they're anything like you, I'm sure they're lovely." Dan smiled timidly before following Phil to his lunch table where his two best friends were already conversing. When they saw Dan and Phil approaching, welcoming smiled appeared on their faces.
"Hey there Dan." PJ smiled once they were seated. "I hope our dear Philip has been treating you well." PJ teased, winking at Phil. Dan blushed but smiled.
"He's been lovely." He confirmed, making Phil feel happy and little flustered. He wanted to 'awe' at Dan's blush because he looked pretty adorable.
"Well, my name is PJ and I hope your experience at this school has been alright despite recent events." Dan blushed again, feeling embarrassed that meeting Phil involved drama which he never wanted to be involved in.
"It's been fine."
"I'm Chris by the way. I'm the loud mouth with no boundaries when it comes to dirty or suggestive thoughts." Chris wiggled his eyebrows which caused Phil and PJ to chuckle and Dan to smile.
"Nice to meet you. I'm really shy most of the time but I'll open up once I get to know you." Dan smiled timidly.
"Aw you're kind of adorable." Chris laughed making Dan blush again.
"Um, thanks?" Dan laughed and looked at Phil who was smiling at him, causing him to blush again. There was something about him ...
"So Dan, let's know a little bit about you then." PJ smiled encouragingly.
"Okay, well..."
~
"Chris and PJ were nice today. It was good to finally meet them." Dan commented as they were doing the finishing touches to their project.
"I'm glad you met them too." Phil grinned.
"Phil ..."
"Yeah?"
"I just wanted to say that ... well, you're my best friend. One of my only friends since I arrived here and I wanted to thank you for giving me a chance even after what happened with Ellie." Dan muttered.
Phil beamed. "No problem, I really like you Dan. I think it's safe to say you're my best friend too, just don't tell Chris or PJ." Phil winked. Dan's heart fluttered ... okay so maybe since day one he had fancied Phil. He didn't want to voice it however because of what happened with Ellie - maybe Phil wasn't over it and they had just become friends and Dan didn't want to ruin it so soon.
"Well, I'm honoured." Dan beamed and went back to finishing the project. Once it was done, both the boys breathed out in relief.
"Finally." Phil chuckled and started to pack things away.
"The closing date is tomorrow as well." Dan chuckled as he followed suite.
"Now that all our hard work is done, how about a movie?" Phil suggested.
"Well I should be heading home soon." Dan replied sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. Phil felt disappointment wash over him. He almost felt addicted to Dan's presence and in the past week he found he couldn't get enough of his adorable personality.
"You sure you can't stay the night?" Phil asked hopefully.
"I could ask but it is a school night." Dan warned. Phil's heart beat picked up, he hadn't actually thought it through. Was having Dan stay over a good idea?
"Why wouldn't it be?" Phil thought in confusion. For some reason, the thought made Phil feel nervous and he started nervously waiting whilst Dan talked to his parents. When Dan finally came back into the room he had a large grin across his face.
"They said I could stay."
"Great, so movie?" Phil grinned.
"Sounds great." Dan nodded. Phil skimmed through his DVD collection and called out possible films to watch until they both agreed on Howl's Moving Castle. "My old friends used to tease me about this. They'd ask me where my castle was and if I'd kissed any witches recently." Dan smiled, shaking his head at the memory.
"Do you miss them?" Phil asked curiously.
Dan nodded, "Yeah, but I'm sure they're fine without me. I've never had a best friend before and all the friends I've had always liked other people more than they liked me. It's kind of sad really." Dan sighed, looking a little watery eyed. Phil felt that familiar jolt of sorrow at seeing Dan upset.
"I'm sorry to hear that, I promise I won't do that to you Dan. Despite me knowing Chris and PJ for a long time I think it's safe to say you're my best friend. I think we've really connected despite certain circumstances. I really like you." Phil reassured and even went as far as pulling Dan into a hug. The movie was forgotten as Dan gratefully accepted the embrace and snuggled into Phil's arms.
"I'm so glad I met you Phil." Dan sighed.
"I'm glad I met you too." Phil grinned, pecking Dan's forehead.
~
Phil blinked his eyes open, yawning as he slowly gained consciousness. He felt warm and incredibly comfortable and he further started to wake he realized he had his arms around someone. He frowned and looked down curiously and was a little surprised to see himself and Dan tangled together in a tight embrace. Phil's arms were wrapped around Dan's waist whilst Dan's arms were pulled to his chest which were sandwiched between him and Phil. Phil felt himself flush as he realized their legs were entwined and all in all they were in quite an intimate position.
Despite this thought Phil found himself not wanting to pull away. In fact he enjoyed it and pulled Dan a little closer. What is wrong with me? Why do I suddenly want him closer? Phil thought in confusion. To anyone observing it would have been obvious that the relationship between these two boys was a lot more than 'friendship' but only Dan had come to terms with his feelings for Phil. Phil on the other hand - the thought hadn't even crossed his mind ... until now.
He looked at Dan's face and frowned. Something had changed but he couldn't put a finger on it. Was it that he looked so peaceful? Was it that he looked angelic when he was relaxed? Was it the cute little smile? Was it the way he unconsciously wanted to be closer to Phil and cuddled into him?
Phil's heart was beating faster and he didn't know why. What's changed? Phil thought in frustration as he looked over the beautiful boy. He was a little startled when Dan blinked his hazel eyes open, long lashes fluttering and blinking away sleep. They were wide and innocent and pretty. Phil could see every detail of the iris up close.
That's when he got it.
He wanted to wake up to see those eyes every morning because they were gorgeous. He wanted to wake up to Dan's embrace - to his little smile, his angelic face and how peaceful he looked. He wanted to see his face every day and he wanted to kiss him.
Phil Lester wanted to kiss Dan Howell and this thought was so startling that Phil sort of gawped at Dan for a few seconds. Dan's brow furrowed and he looked at Phil in confusion - almost like he was imitating a confused puppy.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" Dan asked, but his voice was low; a sultry whisper. Phil, still in a daze, spoke without thinking.
"I just realized how much I want to kiss you." He mumbled, eyes dropping back to Dan's lips which were close and oh-so tempting. Dan stared wide-eyed and swallowed the lump in his throat.
"Why don't you then?" He replied, biting his lip in anxiety. Without thinking things through, Phil took Dan's chin and brought their lips together. Both boys melted into the embrace and their lips moulded together like a lock and key. These lips that were made only for each other now fitting together like pieces of the puzzle. Phil's hand trailed up Dan's jaw and to the back of his head, keeping him in place, whilst Dan's arms snaked out from between their chests and round Phil's waist pulling him closer.
That's when they both knew that they were head over heels in love with the other and when they broke for air, there was a sparkle in their eyes and grins upon their lips. "That was nice." Dan whispered.
"It was ... I'm going to do it again." He stated, making Dan giggled and fit their lips together again, a growing passion building between the two of them. "Be my boyfriend?" Phil asked on their next oxygen break. Dan brought him back in for another kiss before pulling away and beaming.
"How could I refuse?" and then they were kissing again, missing the loss of their lips. They spent all morning, cuddling, kissing and talking just because they could.
This is what I should have felt like with Ellie but I never did. Phil thought as he looked at Dan with a new fondness.
~
Dan beamed as they walked into the canteen hand in hand the next day. Even though it was early days and they hadn't known each other long they felt completely love drunk. Phil wondered how he missed it that day when Ellie kissed him. How didn't melt into a puddle at the mere sight of him. Now he was beyond grateful that Dan Howell, this beautiful human being, was someone to call his and vice versa.
PJ and Chris had curious expressions as the pair approached them. As soon as they sat down, the questions began.
"Why are you holding hands?"
"Dan, are you wearing Phil's tie?"
"What happened last night?"
"Are you two together?"
"Did you have sex?"
Phil gave Chris a dirty look at the last question. "Calm down, we'll tell you everything." Phil chuckled, Dan's hand still in his under the table. He lightly stroked over Dan's knuckles, earning a grin from his boyfriend who squeezed his hand.
"Come on then, details! I'm dying to know." Chris whined.
However, before Phil could open their mouths Ellie slammed her hands down on the table, making the four of them jump.
"Phil!" She exclaimed. "Why have you been ignoring me? Look I've said I'm sorry now can we please stop this silly separation and get back together? Dan and I were only joking right?" Ellie prompted, looking at Dan for support who scowled at her.
"Ellie stop this. I told you we're done. I don't like you anymore." Phil sighed. Ellie pretended to look hurt and sniffed.
"Please Philly, you'll regret it. I know you still love me. Stop playing hard to get." She whined. Chris and PJ cringed at how annoying she was. They could never really stand her when she was at their table anyway. Phil suddenly felt angry at her accusation.
"The only thing I regret is letting you kiss Dan before I did." Phil suddenly snapped, making everyone go silent. Dan blushed but the grin wouldn't leave his face as he gripped Phil's hand tighter and stroked his thumb over the back of his hand. Chris and PJ squealed and tried to refrain form asking questions since Ellie was still there.
"BOYFRIEND?!" She exclaimed in horror, looking from Dan to Phil. She suddenly laughed harshly. "Nice try but you're not getting rid of me that easily! Seriously? You make up something like that to get rid of me? Come on Phil, I know you're not a faggot." She cackled, making the fury levels in Phil hit the roof.
Chris and PJ glared at Ellie and looked ready to slap her but before Phil, PJ or Chris could do anything Dan was on his feet and staring angrily at Ellie. "Listen here bitch. I really don't like you and I'm disgusted I let you anywhere near me. I'm fine with you insulting me into kidding yourself you have a chance with Phil, but if you insult my sexuality and Phil's then you've got another thing coming. Fuck off and leave us alone. He. Doesn't. Want. You! Get that into your thick skull.. How dare you insult him?" Dan snarled through gritted teeth.
Ellie's eyes were wide with disbelief along with every else's at the table and some even nearby. Ellie looked shaken by what he said and looked down at the floor in shame, her eyes watering a little. "I-I'm sorry. You're right. Sorry Phil ..." She sniffed. "Sorry Dan." She whispered and hurried away. Dan sat down, his fist un-clenching and his tense figure relaxing.
"Holy shit." Chris chuckled. Phil took Dan's hand again and squeezed, smiling brightly at him.
"Thank you." Phil smiled and pecked his cheek.
"That might have been a bit harsh." Dan frowned after a second.
"Don't worry about it, she'll get over it. Besides, it'll keep her at bay for a while - if not forever." PJ reassured.
"You're kind of hot when your angry." Phil winked and Dan blushed.
"Shut up." Dan smiled.
"Awww, tell us how this happened NOW!" Chris demanded - an eager look on his face. Dan bit his lip and smiled at Phil.
"Well ..."
