Chapter 16: Muffins
(Phil's POV)
He took me to the pastry shop after a silent and awkward walk to it. I couldn't bring myself to talk to him for some reason. My stomach was in knots all of a sudden, it was like something was threatening to kick me in the balls if I would have said anything.
Walking into the shop I was greeted with the smell of fresh dough and sugar. It was like the smell of a sugar cookie candle your mum gets on Christmas because it only sells at Christmas time because it's overbearing, but the shop was just the right amount of sugar cookie smell. Maybe that's just me.
"Hello, welcome to- Dan!" a woman with a bright smile and slightly higher-pitched voice and other women said. She quickly walked towards Dan from behind the counter and engulfed him with a hug. "It's so good to see you!"
"I saw you two days ago Marzia!" Dan exclaimed while returning the hug.
"I know but still!"
I heard a bark and a man yell, "I know Edger, someone is here, we get it!" Then he appeared to find a curtain that leads to the back room holding a black pug, "Hey Dan, good to see you."
"Ooooo Dan, how your new boyfriend?" The lady who I assume is named Marzia asked.
"Boyfriend?" I say quietly.
Dan sighs and shakes his head, "Guys this is Phil, he's staying with me for a while. Phil this is Marzia and her husband, Felix."
"Hello!" Marzia said getting even closer than she already was.
"H-hi," I studded back.
"So what's it like to be dating such a depressed, lonely boy?" She asked.
"Marzia leaves him alone, they aren't even dating, I'm sure!" I glanced over to see Dan standing next to Felix holing the dog.
Marzia turned to face her husband and huffed, "Well if they aren't they should be, look at the both of them, Phil's over here is a red as a sunburn. And tell me, when was the last time Dan came in here with a real smile?"
Felix sighed, "How would I know, you see Dan when he first walks in, not me!"
"Whatever," she replies, walking over to the other boys.
I followed after her. I stood at the end by Dan while Marzia followed to Felix.
"As for this little pup his name is Edger," Dan said, holding the dog out to me. I smiled and took the dog from him. He was a lot heavier then he seemed but not so heavy that you fall over.
"So what is it that you boys stopped in for?" Felix said while walking back to behind the counter.
"You already know what I want," Dan said, then nodding over to me, "the real question is what do you want?"
I peered into the glass and quickly decided that I wanted a muffin, blueberry for a basic person like myself. The thing was I didn't know how to speak still which proved to be a problem. I pointed to the muffin and I felt Dan's eyes on me. I glanced over to see his cheeks flushed a little. He smiled and nodded.
"Blueberry I assume?"
I nodded in response to his question. He nodded to Felix.
"I will never understand why you come to a pastry shop when you work at a cafe, it doesn't make much sense to me," Felix said while handing Dan the bag that contained my muffin.
"Who else has the best pistachio nuts muffins?" He answered while handing me the bag. I quickly put Edger down and he ran off to the back room.
"Guess you're right," Felix answered looking to Marzia, "she's one hell of a cook."
"It's my mom's recipe!" She exclaimed.
"But still!" Felix whined.
Dan chuckled, "Now are you going to let me pay this time?"
"You'll pay when you have to babysit later down the line!" Felix answered.
"And if I don't?"
"Debt."
Simple, I guess.
"Whatever you say," Dan said while turning around and heading out the door, "See you guys later."
"And the next time I see you too you guys better be holding hands and making out!" Marzia said as we left.
"Guess we have a fan," Dan said as I walked out the door.
"Yeah, why does she want us to date so badly?"
"I don't have many friends, and the one I have likes someone else and I would ever go for him," he answered as he walked down the street slowly.
"So does that mean you'd go for me?"
"I mean, yeah, I guess. It'll freak Marzia out, that's all I know."
He would date me. He's gay. Wait, he's gay and he's acting like it's nothing. Woah, and he wasn't afraid to let me know, he didn't tell Marzia to keep it a secret. He might as well have it written on his shirt. That's amazing. I want to be able to do that one day.
And I did.
