xlvii. she's awake

As the sunlight fluttered through the blinds, Kiara smiled as she noticed Rosalie standing across the room, staring out of the window in deep thought. She sat up in the bed, propping herself up on her elbows as she watched the love of her life shimmer as the sun hit against her skin.

Kiara couldn't help but feel a sense of gratitude for this moment. It was as if time had paused just for them, allowing them to bask in the warmth of the sun and the warmth of each other's company. She wondered if this was how every day of the rest of her life would feel, as long as she woke up alongside Rosalie. An eternity just like this... well, that didn't sound so bad at all.

"Morning beautiful," Kiara said in a soft tone, still admiring Rosalie from afar. "What's on your mind?"

Rosalie turned to face her, a small smile forming on her lips as she walked towards the bed. Her concerned face shifted to one of complete relief, something that caused Kiara to scrunch her nose a little - unsure why Rosalie looked so delighted that she was awake. Sure, it was nice to see her imprint was overjoyed to see her, but certainly a little strange.

"You're awake," Rosalie breathed, sitting down on the edge of the bed as she brushed a single strand of hair away from Kiara's face. Kiara giggled, leaning forward and pressing a soft kiss to Rosalie's lips, sighing in contentment as she pulled back and looked at her golden eyes.

"You seem surprised," Kiara joked, her smile falling a little as Rosalie didn't laugh. "Why are you surprised?"

Rosalie lifted a hand, pulling the crew-neck hem of Kiara's t-shirt a little as she looked at the red mark that was resting just above her collarbone. Kiara's fingers lifted, running the tips gently along the mark with a small smile on her face as she realised that it must have been still very apparent, if the way that Rosalie was staring at it gave any indication.

"I bit you," Rosalie whispered, her voice so quiet that Kiara was sure she would have missed it even with her supernatural hearing had she not been looking right at her. "How are you okay?"

"It didn't hurt," Kiara replied, rolling her eyes as she wondered if Rosalie had never given someone a hickey before. Kiara was quite fond of giving them, and it was the one thing that she was sure she would miss - not being able to leave a little hickey on Rosalie's vampire skin. Although, she was sure that Rosalie preferred that since Emmett wouldn't be able to find another thing to tease the blonde about. "These things happen?"

Kiara knew that Rosalie was concerned about the fact she'd bit her, since she'd been there when it happened. Rosalie had realised seconds after her teeth had broken Kiara's skin, springing apart and almost crashing into the wall on the opposite side of the room as her fingers moved to her lips and touched the single drop of blood that was resting on them. She hadn't swallowed it - Kiara had instead sprung straight up with a tissue from the bedside cabinet and wiped it off before Rosalie even had time to think about it.

She wasn't about to let Rosalie taste blood when she knew it was one thing her imprint never wanted to do. Kiara had prevented it before, and she'd do so for as long as they both lived. Rosalie had been scared to go near her for a few moments after that, Kiara reassuring her that it didn't hurt and that it would heal by morning with her enhanced healing. It had definitely ruined the mood that they'd created, and instead Kiara had found herself snuggling up with Rosalie and placing gentle kisses on her face until the wolf had drifted off to sleep.

Now, it was clear to see that the mark still remained despite Kiara being sure that it would have faded by morning. Kiara could feel Rosalie's eyes on her skin as she moved, her fingers coming up to rest gently against the red mark once more and tracing a few circles around it until Rosalie was finally satisfied that it didn't hurt Kiara to touch it.

"See? It doesn't hurt or anything... I'll be alright." Her hand moved away from the bite mark on her neck to rest against Rosalie's cheek, bringing her forward and kissing her gently once more. "It's like I've got a little tattoo here now."

"Not funny."

Despite her statement, Rosalie smiled slightly in return before reaching forward herself and caressing the mark with her thumb. To anyone else it would have looked like an overly intimate gesture, but to the vampire it was just another sign of her pure adoration for Kiara. Her lips moved forward again as she placed a gentle kiss over the mark before pulling back with another concerned look on her face.

"I want Carlisle to check it out once we're back," Rosalie said, standing up abruptly and moving towards the kitchen space. Kiara groaned, flopping back against the pillows as she thought about having to explain to Carlisle that her imprint had gotten a little... possessive... during their intimate night and bitten her.

"I don't see the big deal," Kiara called out as Rosalie walked into the other room, no reply coming from the vampire. Saying that, she couldn't help but admire Rosalie's curves as she walked out the room, the way her hips swayed with each step.

Even with Rosalie's strange reaction that morning, and her demand that they needed to speak to Carlisle once they got back, Kiara felt like she was walking on pure bliss. She was finally at peace with the love of her life, who was drop-dead gorgeous by the way, and her brother and her were at a good point in their relationship for the first time in years. She had a supportive pack, her skin felt like it was glowing and there was no demonic baby trying to eat the county.

Life really couldn't get any better.

_____

When they returned, the entire family almost seemed disappointed to see the couple walking back from the forest. Kiara rolled her eyes, not quite sure what was so disappointing about seeing the two holding hands and clearly being on better terms with each other.

"We thought you were Edward and Bella," Emmett said, sighing in annoyance as the couple entered the house.

Ah, Kiara thought, that was why they were disappointed.

"She's awake?" Rosalie asked, although they could all tell her mind was elsewhere. Beverly looked at her sister strangely, not sure why she didn't seem to be over-the-moon at having made up with her mate and knowing that Bella had transitioned without any concerns.

"Yeah, Edward took her hunting about an hour ago," Esme smiled, Renesmee bouncing in her arms. Kiara was surprised that Jacob wasn't holding her, the thought reminding her that she needed to talk to him about the nature of the imprint.

Their beliefs about what imprinting meant had been challenged significantly since Kiara had imprinted on Rosalie, and then Seth on Bree. The elders had once thought that all imprints would turn romantic, and were a way to ensure a strong bloodline continued - but that couldn't be the case if Seth and Kiara both were unable to have children with their imprints. In fact, Seth and Bree barely had shown any romantic affection towards each other - and while Kiara had originally thought they'd be together in no time, she wondered if every imprint truly was different.

She hoped that anyway, or Jacob imprinting on a baby would be the most disgusting thing that the universe could have ever put into the world.

"Carlisle, a word?" Rosalie asked, snapping Kiara out of her thoughts. She had plenty of time to ponder about the nature of imprinting later, once Rosalie had confirmation from Carlisle that Kiara was fine, despite the shapeshifter insisting that everything was alright.

Carlisle sensed the urgency in Rosalie's voice, not having missed the fact she had barely even acknowledged the rest of the family - including Renesmee. He nodded, motioning for the blonde to head up to his office where Bella had previously been going through her transition. He had expected her to drop Kiara's hand, but instead Rosalie had tugged her mate along behind her with such an intensity that he felt a small pit of dread fill his stomach at whatever Rosalie was about to spring on him.

It wasn't just him that notice the strange dynamic in the room - Seth and Leah shared a look, while Jasper narrowed his eyes at the retreating trio. Emmett looked between them all, wondering if he was missing something but realising that everyone else looked just as lost as he did. He smirked a little, glad to know that he wasn't being slow or missing context on what they just witnessed.

The three of them reached Carlisle's office a few moments later, and the doctor immediately looked to Kiara, her hand still linked with Rosalie's. He eyed her for a second, trying to figure out which one of them had an issue - but he didn't see anything obviously wrong with either of them and wondered what in the world they needed help with now.

The scent of antiseptic wafted in the air from the materials Carlisle stocked for medical emergencies, but it was mixed with something else... Kiara recognised Bella's scent but it was different now - almost sharper to her nose. She could tell she was a vampire, yet still Bella. It was... weird.

He didn't need to say anything for Rosalie to take some initiative - she wasted no time in telling him that she had indeed bitten the alpha in the room. The news instantly wiped away any trace of calmness from his expression, concern flooding the space between them as he tried to understand why Rosalie had done that - and why her eyes were still golden if she had.

"I don't really understand why this is a big deal," Kiara muttered, kicking at nothing on the ground with her foot as she blushed. "It's not like people don't do that sometimes during..."

"You bit her?" Carlisle interrupted, a sudden serious look on his face as he looked between Rosalie and Kiara. He was clearly trying not to make any judgement but was finding it hard not to voice his opinion that such an act might have been rash - even if he had a gut feeling that he understood exactly why she had done it.

Rosalie had nothing but complete concern on her face, Kiara instead looking sheepishly anywhere except at Carlisle. She knew that the man knew they had a sex life, but since he was basically like Rosalie's dad... it was weird.

"She bit me," Kiara confirmed, feeling a warm blush spread across her cheeks as she realised that the pack and the rest of the Cullens would be able to hear every word from downstairs. She was surprised that Emmett hadn't erupted into laughter yet, knowing that he usually was the first to try and embarrass anyone else.

Carlisle reached into the drawer, pulling on a pair of medical gloves before motioning for Kiara to take a seat on the desk. She looked at them in confusion, not sure why they were taking this so seriously when it was clear that she was fine. Rosalie obviously hadn't put venom into her - so why was this such a big deal?

"Kiara, do you mind if I touch around it?"

"Yeah, I don't care," Kiara replied, looking at Rosalie with a 'what the hell is happening' expression on her face. The blonde looked grimly back at her, the look on her face reminding her of the concern that Rosalie had shown when she had almost killed herself rejecting the imprint. Kiara felt fine - she was fine.

Carlisle gently pressed against the mark on Kiara's neck, inspecting the small teeth puncture marks that were gradually becoming less red as time passed.

"Did you feel any unusual sensations after the bite?" Carlisle asked, his tone measured as he continued his examination.

"No, not really," Kiara replied, still feeling confused as to why they were making such a big deal out of it. "I mean, it hurt a little bit at the time but it's not like I'm in any pain now or anything."

He hummed thoughtfully, his fingers exploring the area around the bite mark. Kiara couldn't help but squirm a little under his touch, feeling almost embarrassed that she was so ticklish while he was inspecting such a sensitive area of her body.

"It seems that Rosalie was right to bring you up here," Carlisle said after a moment, looking up at the couple. "If it's alright with you, Kiara, I'd like to run some tests. I'm not sure why the venom hasn't seemed to affect you this time, when it was almost fatal before."

"Sorry, venom?" Kiara snapped, her eyes flickering to Rosalie's in deep confusion. She almost felt a little affronted at the suggestion that Rosalie had put venom into her bloodstream - especially when they knew that any ounce of vampire venom was lethal to shapeshifters. "I've felt venom before, I think I'd know if it was destroying me from the inside out."

"Why isn't she experiencing... pain?" Rosalie asked, her grip on Kiara's hand tightening. Kiara couldn't help but feel grateful for the support, even though she still didn't understand why everyone was freaking out - Rosalie clearly hadn't put her venom in Kiara. The alpha was growing a little bit agitated at the suggestion, not sure why they were ignoring her telling them that she was fine.

"Kiara, I understand that you feel fine," Carlisle replied, his tone gentle but firm as he finally turned to address her again. "But as you know, a vampire's bite can have unpredictable effects on a human... and we still don't really know what it does to one of your kind."

The door burst open, Jacob stomping in after having been held back by Emmett once he'd heard Rosalie admit to biting Kiara. He had eventually managed to shove the large vampire off him, Emmett throwing his hands in the air and letting Jacob storm upstairs to be by his sister's side.

"You fucking bit her?" He snapped, going to move towards Rosalie before Kiara slid off the table and pressed herself in between them, almost rolling her eyes as she tried to keep them away from each other. She had thought they'd sorted out their differences because of Renesmee and her... but it seemed she was wrong.

"Not on purpose," Rosalie snapped back, her eyes piercing through his as she glared at him with a passion.

"Oh my god, STOP IT!" Kiara snapped finally, pressing her hands against both of them and moving them further apart from each other. "I am FINE! We know venom is lethal - I was bitten before, remember?"

They all flinched a little at the memory.

"Now do I look like I'm being burned from the inside out? No! Do I feel like it? NO!"

Carlisle nodded in agreement to Kiara's words before quickly turning away and heading over to the lab bench. He pulled out a microscope, setting it up before gathering a sample of Kiara's blood from the bite mark on her shoulder. As he examined it through the lens, everyone fell silent, anticipation and fear flooding through them as they waited for his verdict.

"Kiara... you do have venom in your body," he said slowly. "But it doesn't seem to be killing you."

The alpha couldn't help but feel surprised at this news; both relief and confusion washing over her - though everyone else seemed just as baffled by this development. Her skin almost felt like it was itching at the thought of having vampire venom under it, a shiver travelling down her spine at the idea.

"I don't think I'm following, Doc," Jacob said, his voice tense as Carlisle opened his laptop. The man seemed to flick through various files before opening one, turning the screen so that the other three in the room could read what was displayed on top.

"Is that..."

"This is what your blood cells looked like before," Carlisle said, referencing when he had done some tests to see about the healing of the vampire bites on Kiara's body. Kiara nodded, not entirely sure why he was showing them that. "Now look in the microscope."

He motioned for the girl to look first, Kiara stepped forward with anxiety settling in the put of her stomach as she did so. Kiara leaned forward, pressing her eyes up against the lens of the microscope to look at the top slide. She hadn't done well in biology at school - so she wasn't entirely sure what she was supposed to be looking for, but she didn't need to ask to have the difference pointed out to her.

She gasped, her eyes going wide as she looked at the zoomed in cells. She could see her blood cells - yet she could see the venom under the microscope, a shiny silver that was almost iridescent as it caught the light from the microscope. That wasn't what shocked her, but rather the way the silver seemed to form a small perimeter around each single speck that she could see.

Kiara stood back, letting Rosalie and Jacob both have a look as she nervously bit at her fingernails. She didn't know what the hell she had just looked at, but she knew it was significantly different than the one on the screen.

"I don't understand," Rosalie said, looking almost as shocked as Kiara felt. "How is that possible?"

"I don't know," Carlisle said finally, shaking his head. "I'm honestly baffled. I mean - yes, there's venom in her, but it doesn't seem to be doing anything. When a human is bitten by a vampire the venom is what changes them, what makes them into a vampire themselves. But venom is essentially a poisonous substance - which is why we've seen that it can be fatal to shapeshifters... and yet it seems to have no effect on her cells at all. I... I honestly don't know what to tell you."

Kiara felt a sinking feeling in her gut as Carlisle spoke. She had never felt more like a science experiment than she did in that moment. She was scared and confused, not knowing what was going to happen to her next. She looked up at Rosalie and Jacob, hoping to find some comfort in their presence, but they looked just as lost as she did.

"Is there anything we can do to get the venom out of her?" Jacob asked, breaking the silence. "What if it's like... just killing her slowly?"

"I'm afraid I don't have an answer for that, Jacob," Carlisle replied, his voice gentle. "We'll have to run more tests to see if we can figure out what's going on with Kiara's cells."

Kiara felt a knot in her stomach as she listened to Carlisle's words. She had always known that her body was different from others, being a shapeshifter and all, but this was a whole new level of strange. She was getting fed up of constantly being the exception to a previously decided rule - from being a female shifter, to imprinting on a vampire, becoming alpha instead of Jacob... it was all just getting a bit too much.

"I don't understand - how can that newborn's venom have been so different than Rosalie's?" Jacob asked, so many questions still clogging his brain as he felt nothing but immense worry for his twin sister. He was sure some of his worry was heightened by the fact she was an alpha and he was her beta, but he didn't care.

Rosalie didn't have an answer for that, but the way Carlisle's lips twitched a little at the corners showed that he maybe had a suggestion. He looked between the twins for a moment as they all stared at him expectantly, almost like they were waiting for him to tell them all that this was a joke.

"What if I took a sample of both your bloods, and we compared them?" Carlisle finally suggested, his voice hesitant. "It might help us get some more insight into Kiara's condition. Jacob, would you...?"

Jacob had already shrugged off his jacket and presented his arm to Carlisle before the doctor had even finished his sentence. Rosalie nodded gratefully at him, and Kiara forced a thankful smile out as Carlisle moved around to set up for another blood sample.

After that, Carlisle placed the actual samples under the microscope and they could see how there were various differences between Kiara's blood cells and Jacob's - but not just the samples from that morning. Rosalie was the first to notice it, pointing to Carlisle's computer at the previous sample of Kiara's blood and back to Jacob's sample that was now under a second microscope.

"Carlisle, look."

The doctor looked between the samples, his eyes narrowing as he tried to decipher what he was seeing. Compared to Jacob's sample, Kiara's first sample was still abnormal - small flecks of silver were apparent that they'd overlooked before. It wasn't until Jacob's was side by side that it was more noticeable - Kiara didn't just have Rosalie's venom in her system. She'd had venom in her system for a while now.

"How the fuck is this possible?" Kiara snapped, getting frustrated at the situation. She was stressed, not liking the fact that the substance that had almost killed her had just been chilling in her body and forming with her blood cells for months - because it must have been. The only time venom could have gotten into her body was back when she had almost died and Carlisle had to suck it out... but he must not have gotten it all.

"I don't know, Kiara," Rosalie said softly, her voice equally tense. Although she wasn't entirely sure if she was tense because of the situation or because Kiara was irate - maybe a mixture of both. "But I know we're all going to figure this out, and you're going to be just fine, okay?"

Kiara wasn't sure if Rosalie was reassuring herself or the alpha.

"Have you noticed anything different since you were bitten before? Like strength, speed, healing...?" Carlisle listed off, waiting to see if anything sparked a recognition in Kiara's eyes as he listed off potential changes. Her eyes flickered to Jacob's for a second, one thought sitting at the back of her mind as she hesitated to voice it.

"What?"

"My control... it's been a bit harder to maintain," Kiara admitted quietly, feeling a little embarrassed that she was the alpha but seemed to find it harder out of them all to stay in check. "I thought it was just my already short temper, but it's like sometimes something just comes over me. I guess I hadn't noticed it too much until now, when we've all been cooped up here in such small space."

Silence settled over them all for a moment.

"I think that's enough tests for today," Carlisle said, standing up and quickly packing away his materials. He looked towards Kiara, his face clearly telling her that he was just as confused as she was. "But if you feel any changes, I need you to let me know right away."

Kiara nodded, turning to look at both Rosalie and Jacob - she couldn't think of anyone else she would trust to figure it out with her. After all, these were the two people who had been through everything she had been through with her, right? Sure, Jacob had been a dick too, but now that they'd settled their differences, she trusted him with her life.

"Perfect timing," Jacob said, his eyes looking out the window. Kiara followed his gaze, seeing two figures laughing as they slowly strolled towards the house. "Looks like Bella and Edward are back."

_____

"If she shows any signs of attacking you..." Rosalie muttered, hearing Jacob testing Bella outside with his smell. Her arms were wrapped around Renesmee as she looked at Kiara, the girl standing in the back of the room next to Beverly and Emmett as they all prepared to re-meet Bella.

"It'll be okay," Kiara said, a soft smile on her lips. "I've been through worse."

Rosalie didn't like that answer, but she couldn't deny it. Their previous discovery about her cells only stood as a reminder of what that 'worse' actually could have been. Kiara was right - she'd faced bigger things than Bella Swan.

"Welcome to the family," Esme called out, snapping everyones attention to the fresh-faced vampire that had just entered the room. Kiara smiled as she saw her friend, instantly taking in the changes and similarities that she had with human Bella.

Her skin was translucent pale, same old Bella Swan. Her hair was still brown, but it had more of a nourished glint to it now, and her curves seemed to have filled out a little. She carried herself with much more grace than before, and Kiara wondered if Bella could even still be clumsy while vampire venom ran in her veins. Her eyes flickered around the room, and Kiara knew that was going to take a lot to get used to - the blood red eyes. Her stomach turned a little at the vibrantness of the red, but she tried to remind herself it wasn't innocent human blood - it was Bella's own blood in her system that had caused that.

"Someone's been waiting to meet you."

Everyone moved aside so that Bella could finally lay her eyes on Renesmee for the first time. Renesmee looked up at Bella with a curious gaze, her fingers playing with Rosalie's hair as she studied the new vampire. Bella's eyes widened as she took in the sight of the young girl, her gaze shifting between the child and Edward as if looking for answers.

Kiara watched as Bella reached out to touch Renesmee's cheek, her fingers grazing over the baby's soft skin. Rosalie smiled as she gently handed the baby over, watching as everyone studied the moment intently just in case Bella snapped. Renesmee gently lifted her palm, placing it against Bella's face and the rest of the room watched as Bella's eyes unfocused, experiencing her first Renesmee vision.

"What was that?"

"She showed you the first memory she has of you," Edward replied, a ghost of a smile on Kiara's lips at the memory that Renesmee had also showed the werewolf. Bella had looked like shit there - so Kiara can't imagine that she would have been delighted to see that. Despite that, Bella still seemed enthralled.

"Showed me? How?"

"How do I hear thoughts? How does Alice see the future? She's gifted."

There was a beat of silence before Bella looked at Edward, seeing the man trying to hide a smirk as she thought about the other split second that Renesmee had showed her during her mini montage of clips - and it certainly wasn't Bella.

"Did she just show me someone being sick?"

Emmett erupted into laughter, Jacob immediately joining in. The rest of the group all laughed and exchanged smiles, Kiara instantly feeling her smile drop to a scowl as she glared at the baby resting contentedly in Bella's arms. That little brat just didn't stop, did she?

"It's her favourite thing, so it seems," Kiara muttered, Bella finally seeing the other wolf that was standing in the room. Her mouth broke out into a grin as she noticed Kiara leaning against the bookcase, seeing the girl in high definition for the first time. Bella's eyes lingered on Kiara for a moment, noticing small things about her that she hadn't seen before - the slight flecks of amber in her brown eyes, how indented the scar from Victoria was on her neck, the smaller red bite that was peaking up from behind her t-shirt collar, the slow and almost inviting beat of her heart... the soft smell of pine wood and - and blood.

"Bella," Edward said lowly, noticing how her eyes had trained on Kiara's pulse point for just a second too long. Rosalie stepped forward, breaking Bella's gaze from Kiara and causing the brunette to immediately look ashamed for where her thoughts had been heading.

"I'm sorry Kiara..." Bella said, looking regretful. "I see what the others mean by you don't smell the same."

"It's okay," Kiara replied, although she was immediately cut off by Rosalie.

"No it's not."

"All right!" Jacob interrupted, a forced smile on his lips as he moved towards Bella, his hands reaching out for Renesmee. "That's enough experimenting for one day."

Edward shot him a look, silently telling the shapeshifter to back down and leave his wife and baby alone. He'd been understanding about the imprint, but Jacob was being selfish now. He could hear that Jacob had the right intentions, but this wasn't going to help anyone or anything.

"Jacob. She's doing great," Edward replied, his voice stern and with an underlying warning. Kiara picked up on it immediately, pushing herself off the wall she had been leaning on and stepping closer to her brother.

"Yeah. Let's not push it though."

"What's your problem?" Bella snapped, instantly feeling threatened by Jacob trying to take her baby, her Renesmee, from her arms. Kiara almost groaned, instantly feeling the mood shift in the room. Rosalie smirked, loving this side of Bella that would be able to take on Jacob and seeing the amusement in the situation that Kiara and Edward certainly were not seeing.

"Oh. Do tell her, Jacob," Rosalie chirped, a chuckle on her lips as she ignored Kiara's disapproving look at teasing her brother.

"This should be good."

Kiara watched as Edward took Renesmee from Bella, the newborn's attention now fully back to Jacob who was stumbling over his words. Kiara was sure that she wanted the ground to just swallow her brother up now, before he made an even bigger fool of himself than he was currently doing.

"Bella. Look, it's a wolf thing..."

"What's a wolf thing?" Bella said, her voice now sharp like daggers as she had an inkling of what he was talking about. She understood it faster than she expected - noticing how Kiara had suddenly backed down from wanting to kill the baby and the same for Jacob.

"Um... You know we have no control over it. We can't choose who it happens with. And it doesn't mean what you think, Bella. I promise."

A beat passed, Bella's face turning thunderous as she looked at Kiara who nodded to confirm exactly what Jacob was trying to insinuate. She felt her chest tighten a little with anger, glad that she had already fed before meeting the rest of the family as her mind was a little clearer than it had been when she had awoken.

"Take Renesmee out of the room."

Jacob groaned as Rosalie turned around, Renesmee tucked into her chest as she left the room. A piece of Kiara's wolf cried out for her to go with Rosalie, but the alpha in her knew that she had to be here for Jacob. If Bella and Jacob wanted to hash things out, whatever, but she had to be here to step in if it went too far.

"Edward, don't touch me right now. I don't want to hurt you."

Kiara held back a smirk as Jacob looked to his alpha for help, trying to pull the twin and packmate card at the same time. Now, if Kiara had been a very forgiving person and truly belived in the 'forgive and forget' motto, she absolutely would have stepped in to help her brother out. Sadly for Jacob, Kiara wasn't the type to forget, and while she had forgiven him for how he acted when she imprinted on Rosalie, she did want to see how this played out as a form of revenge.

"Jake, bro, I wish you the best at explaining this one. Floor is all yours."

In that moment, Jacob wished he'd never been born.
