Twenty nine
"All I'm saying, is that I've never heard of the Stynes, much less about some super secret supernatural only bar." I followed the boys toward the garage door.
"Wouldn't be super secret if everyone knew about it, huh?"
"It just sounds sketchy." I pat Bennett's back. Wait. "You know what, whatever. You guys plan this massacre and I'll tag along. I've got to go get Bennett's bottle from the back seat and put him down."
Dean pointed at me. "My car better not smell like rotting milk."
"That would be why I'm going to get it, so that it won't."
He flipped me off before disappearing down the hall. The bottle was laying on the seat, and I snatched it up. Dean wouldn't have to be the one to sit in the back if I'd left it.
Bennett stirred at the change in position, but settled down when I stood up. Such a small thing. He almost gave away our position today, a week of careful stalking, would've been ruined had I not discovered that he likes sucking on his fist.
Was this a sign he needed a pacifier?
The parenting books all said it was normal, that babies loved to explore the world around them, and they did it by putting it in their mouths. I was not excited for that stage. I'd have to start baby proofing the bunker, we had far too many sharp objects literally laying around.
"Maverick!" Sam called.
"Coming!" I tucked the bottle in the carrier's corresponding pouch, before making my way toward the war room.
It wasn't until I'd stepped into the room that I realized the situation.
Klaus fucking Mikaelson lounged on one of the chairs at the large table, as soon as he saw me though, his eyes darkened. Elijah stood off to the side, holding a cup of tea.
Where the hell had he gotten that?
Sam and Dean looked ready to bolt, or attack, whichever came first.
"How did you find me?" I wrapped my arms around Bennett, as if that would hide him from his father.
Someone could cut the tense air with a knife.
"The wards around this place were strong. Took Elijah and I a while to get in." Klaus stood, and I stepped back. I couldn't leave, not with Sam and Dean at their mercy. "No one was home, though your scent was strong."
"Klaus, please-"
"I tire of this game." He advanced toward me. "My mother's rune may protect you, but not your little friends."
For every step he took forward, I moved back until I hit the wall by the stairs.
Fuck, fuck, fuck.
"I wouldn't." I heard Elijah warn when Klaus trapped me with his arms, his chest inches away from Bennett. "We're only here for the girl."
Klaus carefully peeled the top of the carrier away, revealing the sleeping boy behind it. "You would take my child away from me?" He said it so quietly, and yet I'm sure everyone heard it. "My first born?"
"I won't make him live in fear."
He brushed his finger along my cheek. "You speak as though you have a choice in the matter."
"So what? You're gonna trap me forever? Trap my kid?" Kids. "Because we've had this conversation before, and I always escape."
Klaus hit the wall beside my head, I jumped, turning away as much as I could. "Be that as it may, it will not happen again. Now I know where you've been hiding all this time."
"Leave her alone or I swear to god, I'll shoot you." Dean's gun cocked.
Don't do something stupid, don't do something stupid, please Dean, don't do something so awfully stupid.
I grabbed Klaus' shirt before he could react. "Let me go. I'm sure there are so many others dying for your attention."
"I'm not abandoning my child."
"You're not. You're letting him grow up without needing to worry about Original drama. The Winchesters and I are going to protect him with everything we've got." If I could get closer, I would. Just as he knew I was more responsive when I was horny, he liked being touched. "Please." He was so close to being convinced, I could see it in his eyes.
"Niklaus perhaps she has a point." And just like that, fucking Elijah broke the spell, popped the little bubble we found ourselves in.
He stepped away, not letting me near. It should be a relief, but all I felt was dread. "Pack your things. We're leaving."
"Klaus-"
"Enough." He growled. "Leave the child."
"No." I flipped the top of the carrier back up, hiding Bennett from view.
Dean and Sam exchanged glances.
Klaus and I stared each other down, a silent stand off. "My kid stays with me. I don't trust you not to take him the second my back is turned."
"And I don't trust you not to run off with my child once you're out of my sight." He picked at the buckles on the side of Bennett's carrier.
I slapped his hands away. "I said no."
Elijah was so clearly trying to hide a smile. It annoyed me.
Fine.
If I couldn't save myself or my kids, I'd save the boys. "I'll go with you, if you leave the Winchesters alone, no loopholes, no work arounds, just leave them be."
"Maverick, no." Sam moved forward, but Dean caught him. "Don't make this deal."
"I mean it, Klaus. Not even sending someone else to kill them." I pointed at him. "I won't run." The boys didn't need to know about baby number two. "Provided they're okay." They had enough to worry about. "Oh, and no barrier bullshit. I want to be able to go in and out, my baby requires walks."
"Any more demands?" Klaus' brow rose.
"If you don't want me fighting you, then you'll follow each and every one of them."
He pressed his lips together. "No more running?"
"No more running."
"I'll allow it." Klaus stepped closer to me. "But if you leave, I shall slaughter those friends of yours and put their severed heads in your bed."
"Like I said, I won't."
