Twenty

The Winchesters were gonna kill me.

But what was worse, was as time slowly ticked on, Klaus was clearly gaining back his strength. It was making me nervous.

Oh and my boobs hurt like they were going to burst.

Elijah, as I learned, put his hands on the desk.

And I had to admit, it was an intimidating sight. He'd put me in the chair at the head of the desk too, which meant I had to go through like an Original and a half to even escape.

Unless I wanted to jump through the window behind me.

I don't want it to come to that.

Bennett must be missing me. I fucking missed that kid and he's barely been alive.

"What were you looking for?" Elijah stared me down.

"Jane Austen."

Klaus scoffed.

"I'm sure the lot of you have better things to do than interrogate little ol' me. I just want a book and I'll get out of your hair, permanently."

"Yes, you've repeated that over and over and yet we still do not know what it is you're looking for."

"Maverick." The blonde, Camille, gestured to me, eyes wide. "You're leaking."

I closed my eyes.

Perfect.

"That only happens- you were pregnant." Elijah realized. "That should be impossible. You've been a hybrid for well over a year." He turned to Klaus. "Is that right?"

"Don't worry, it's not yours. Got pregnant the week after I left you. I thought maybe your extensive library might solve a problem I have." They didn't know. Klaus hadn't cursed my son. "Clearly that's not happening, so I'd prefer to get back to my little family."

"Your vampiric side should have suppressed that." Klaus moved forward. "Nature gave me the loophole."

"Guess you're not the only special hybrid around here." I got up, rounding the desk. "Now if you'll excuse me-"

My breath caught when Klaus appeared in front of me. "You're not going anywhere."

Lovely.

"If you can't tell, I've got a hungry baby waiting for me, so either you let me go, or I'm gonna need to text my nanny that they'll need to feed my kid formula one last time before I can make it home."

"Who?" Klaus' eyes were dark.

"Woah babe, I don't have to tell you who the baby daddy is."

"If you can reproduce, than so can Tyler Lockwood. Any baby born of a hybrid can make more hybrids with their blood." I felt the blood drain from my face.

Shit.

"You want to make more hybrids."

"And my lineage needn't suffer."

This was so much worse.

"With the blood of a hybrid untouched by my mother's traitorous magic, I wouldn't need a doppelgänger." He grabbed my jaw. "A hybrid army with loyal generals I could raise from birth. Lead by my very own daughter."

"The pregnant werewolf." It must be.

"Hayley?" Elijah asked.

Maverick, talk your way out of this. "You're crazy if you think I wouldn't kill myself before I let you do that to my kids." Not my best.

He rushed me to the wall, hand on my throat, but a blast of energy blew him back, throwing him across the room.

What the fuck.

I looked down at my hands. There was nothing there.

Elijah was eyeing me with a new interest.

This was bad. "I swear I don't know what that was."

"Are you in league with my mother?" He asked curiously.

Ah. Shit. "No, no, no. I don't want want to get involved in any kind of Mikaelson drama." I suppose there's not really a reason not to share my mark, now that they knew I had a baby.

Which, my shirt was still soaked.

First thing was first though, I needed to change. I quickly made my way to Klaus' room. Which, I assumed, is the one he came out of earlier.

The hybrid followed, not quite touching me, but rather close.

"I have a mark, I want to know why it's there, and I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with this family." His closet wasn't hard to find. I grabbed the first shirt I saw, folded neatly in a pile.

"And why's that?"

"Because all my problems seem to stem from you."

He'd seen me with far less clothing and yet, I still felt self conscious when I pulled my shirt off, giving him full view of the mark on my shoulder. When I put his on, I was surrounded in his scent, and I hated how much I still liked it.

"What does it look like?" I finally turned around to find Klaus staring at me intently as he leaned against the doorframe.

"A rune."

"I knew that, what is it? And where did it come from?"

I'd trapped myself, I realized. In a small, confined space with the only exit, once again blocked by an Original.

"Someone with very old magic has bestowed a protection spell on you. From what, or rather who, is anyone's best guess."

"I don't know anyone that has that kind of magic."

He shrugged. "Perhaps it was that Bennett witch." Klaus' chin lifted. "She's been known to pull off a thing or two."

"No, I have this. She wouldn't need the rune." I tugged at the necklace around my throat. "Besides, she would've texted me if something was changing. I only got the mark a week ago."

"Was that before or after the birth of the child you claim isn't mine."

"It's not. We weren't even in a relationship. How do you know that the second I got away, I didn't sleep with anyone?"

He moved forward slowly, clearly weary of the rune's magic. "I've been inside that head of yours, love." He traced the edge of my collar bone, stopping at the base of my throat. "Rooted around your darkest secrets while you slept."

"Doesn't make you some sort of expert."

"Oh?" Klaus leaned down. "So you would hate if I did this." He pulled me close to him, fingers inching under the fabric of his shirt, brushing against my waist. "Or this." He slowly began kissing up the side of my neck.

I closed my eyes, clenching my jaw. "No, no." I pushed at his chest, even if it did nothing. "This is how I-"

He hummed. "Don't stop now, I know the truth is begging to leave your lips."

Leaning away only gave him better access.

"I'm not letting you knock me up so you can raise your hybrid army. It sucked the first time."

Klaus pulled away, mercifully. "Pregnancy sucked the first time?"

"No, you asshole." It did, actually. "Being part of your hybrid army."

"Ah, but if you were to have my child, they would be safe. I could guarantee it."

"What about the general thing? I don't want my kid being a general." Why was I even entertaining this? We were not having sex, definitely not in a closet of all places.

If it were to happen.

And it's not going to.

"Perhaps it wouldn't hurt if one of my brood didn't participate in my plot for world domination." Damn his fucking puppy eyes.

"Why not just let me go? Don't you already have a pregnant wolf?"

Instead of answering, he kissed me.
