Thirty three

I paced while Bennett screamed inconsolably. He'd been this way for hours, and in that time I'd changed his diaper three times, tried to feed him, and dressed him in a couple different outfits of varying comfortability.

Where had Klaus gone?

Why wasn't he back yet?

"You're going to wear a hole in the carpet if you keep doing that." Hayley appeared, in sweatpants that looked far too familiar, I was too tired to figure it out.

"He won't calm down."

"Here, let me try." She held her arms out.

"Absolutely not." I held him closer to me.

"Don't be stubborn."

"I won't even let Klaus hold him, I'm sure as hell not going to let you do it." Please, for the love of god, stop crying. I felt helpless, nothing I knew of was working.

Maybe one of the boys would know?

Why didn't I think of that sooner? I was an idiot. I scooped up my phone off the charger, dialing the Winchesters.

"Maverick?" Sam answered on the first ring. "Whats wrong, are you okay? Is Bennett okay?"

"We're alright. We miss you."

"Why's he crying?" Dean shouted. They sounded like they were in the Impala.

"He won't calm down. I tried everything."

"Try singin' 'Hey Jude'."

"What?"

"It's what I used to calm him down the first time you got trapped with those fuckers."

I snorted. "Thank you."

"Are they treatin' you right?"

"What are you doing?" Elijah's sudden voice made me jump. I whipped around and there he was, standing next to Hayley, a bleary eyed Kol behind them.

"I'm trying to calm my baby down."

"I thought we agreed no contact." He was even more intimidating without a suit, if that were possible. Elijah was shirtless, and had just as many, if not more scars than Klaus did.

"Yeah well, he's been crying, forgive me for trying to fix it." He stepped into the room, and I backed up. "Elijah, no." I usually dealt with Klaus and his anger, Elijah was a wildcard.

Tires screeched over the line. "Maverick! Mav are you okay?! What's happening."

He held out his hand expectantly.

"I'm fine, don't come here. I mean it Winchester. Let me handle this." My time was up. "Be safe, give my love to everyone."

"You're the one living with psycho Originals." Dean grumbled.

"They can hear you." Idiot. I hung up, reluctantly handing my phone over to Elijah. "What? I thought you guys knew how they felt about you."

He pocketed it. "No more contact."

"I never agreed to that." Bennett was still crying. He had a pair of lungs on him, that was for sure. "And you can't just cut me off from my family."

"I don't recall the Winchesters being your blood."

"They're not, but they might as well be." Family didn't end in blood, or at least, that was something Bobby used to say.

He passed by the time I was six months pregnant.

I wish he could've met Bennett, he would've loved him.

"Regardless, you have not earned our trust."

"I'm sorry, earned your trust?!"

"You run as soon as the opportunity is presented to you."

"I run because I want a better life for my child than I ever had. I grew up in a place where I thought I was loved, until I realized what was going on. Bennett deserves better and I'm determined to give it to him."

Elijah got that look in his eye. "Bennett."

My stomach dropped. No. No, I'd been so careful. "He's going to live better than me. Not trapped in some old ass compound the rest of his life." I poked at Elijah's chest. "You hear me, Mikaelson?"

"Perfectly clear." He pushed at my hand. "Although, is it your intention to rip him away from his family? That child of yours deserves to know his father's side."

"Yeah well, you guys should've thought about that before all the shit you did. I'm not sure any of you immortals have ever dealt with consequences, but this is one of them."

Hayley's eyes widened and she suppressed a grin.

"Consequences?" His brow rose.

"Yes, Elijah. Even if there's a baby between us, Klaus murdered my pack, twice. So, I'll deny him a child he didn't even know existed until a little while ago."

"That's it? You want revenge."

"Hell yeah I do. Besides, I don't feel that bad. He has Hope."

"Don't bring her into this." Hayley crossed her arms.

"It's true isn't it? Part of the negotiations or whatever. The only reason I'm here is to protect my family from yours."

"Well. Isn't this a sight." Klaus appeared out of fucking nowhere. Kol and Hayley moved to the side, allowing him entrance.

"Where the hell have you been? Who's blood is that?" He was covered in the stuff, it caked his hands and dribbled down his chin.

It was fresh.

"The witches were quite insistent that they protect the traitorous wench in their midst." Klaus examined himself, a gleam in his eyes. "Though a few hearts on their sacred dirt was convincing enough."

"You didn't." Elijah winced.

"I did."

"What did he do?" Bennett must have fallen asleep sometime during our argument. I couldn't even savor the quiet.

"Klaus, it took us months to get the witches to agree to the truce!" Hayley made her way in. Everyone was invited into my room, I guess.

"Then it's unfortunate they decided to harbor our mother." His mother?! Really, I shouldn't be surprised at this point. There was a new Mikaelson that popped up every five seconds. "She's lucky I didn't tear her tongue from her head."

Elijah let out a long sigh. "I'll get dressed."

"Wait. Can I at least have my phone back? It's got white noise, and my baby can't sleep through the night without it."

"No." And then the bastard left! Gods, I hated the Mikaelsons.
