Thirty six
"I don't understand why we have to stand in a circle of salt." Kol frowned, Hope sleeping in his arms.
"Until I figure out what he's attached to, no one's going anywhere. We have no idea how long he's been watching. I need you all here to protect the kids. They'll wander out of the salt ring because there's something shiny."
"Yes, but we're unkillable." Rebekah had Bennett.
Freya, who'd been visiting for the day apparently, held August, and Finn had Henrik.
Everyone but Klaus and Keelin were accounted for.
And Marcel.
"Not all of us." Camille crossed her arms. "I might still be relatively new to all this shit, but if ghosts are real, I'm not messing with that."
"Ditto." Davina nodded.
"You guys can't threaten him, he's already dead. He wants me to be afraid, and he's going to keep haunting me until I salt and burn his bones."
Where his bones were was the issue.
"Why is this ghost coming after you specifically?" Hayley sat on the arm of a couch.
"I've killed a lot of supernaturals. It's inevitable that one of them is going to come after me." Simple enough explanation. I didn't even have to-
"Who's Delilah?" Elijah looked up.
My blood ran cold. "Isn't she the chick from the Christian bible?" I hated the way my voice shook.
"I've heard whispers among the wolves of a Delilah Dolph. She killed the Fridolf pack. They're a pretty famous clan that were known for being peaceful." Stupid Hayley. She just had to know about that little tidbit.
Everyone turned to me and I was suddenly very annoyed that I'd established myself as someone who knew all things wolf. Even if I mostly did. "Oh, that Delilah. Perhaps he's mixed me up then. Spirits can get confused once they die. If I was in the area right after he died, he might have attached to me that way."
Shit. I'd left my phone upstairs.
"Now, I'm going to go grab my phone, and potentially get some clothes." Though the fluffiest towel I've ever had, it wasn't much in the way of coverage.
"Why do you get to leave?" Kol's brow rose.
"Because out of all of us, who's actually hunted a ghost before?" I shot back. "That'll be me. I'm going to call the experts and see if they have any ideas."
They'd certainly solved things on less.
A gust of wind threatened to destroy my salt circle. I laughed, addressing the room at large. I couldn't see him. "Suck it. I laid glue down first, you idiot."
"It seems personal." Elijah insisted.
"Well if I were murdered like Hayley says he was, it'd be personal for me too." She'd unknowingly given me the perfect cover. I relaxed a little, inching toward the boundary. "I'll be quick."
"Not alone." Rebekah stepped forward. "I'll come with you."
"Given that you're holding my child, I'm going to say no."
She rolled her eyes and unceremoniously handed him to Elijah, opening her arms. "Now I can."
"Fine." I grabbed the salt bag. It was lucky I kept my hunting kit well stocked. "We're taking this, we don't have salt guns, so it's the next best thing."
Rebekah followed me up to Klaus' room.
I crept inside, fully intending on launching the contents of this bag if I so much as sensed him.
Gods, this was the last thing I needed right now.
Of course out of all the people that had to haunt me, it was him.
"What is the real reason this ghost is after you?"
"I have no idea what you mean." I snatched one of Klaus' shirts off the floor, I'm pretty sure it was the one he was wearing last night. I set the bag down and slid it over myself, letting the towel fall when I was covered.
"Oh come now, I'm not an idiot. Neither are my siblings. You are a terrible liar."
"So I've been told."
Rebekah was thrown against a wall. Before I could do anything about it, I was too.
Holy shit. I slid downward, clutching my aching head. "Show yourself, you fucker!"
He appeared, crouching down before me. "Now, Delilah, is that how you speak to me? I thought I'd trained you better."
Fuck! Why did I have to freeze when I saw him?!
"I-It's not your mark I bear." I pressed back against the wall. "Not anymore."
Rebekah was getting up. Maybe she didn't hear.
"There's a tear in the veil, the second I find it-"
She threw the salt, and it rained down on the both of us. He evaporated. Rebekah offered me her hand. "Are you alright?"
No. "Yes." I took it, letting her pull me to my feet. "Let's just get back downstairs before he comes back."
She crossed her arms. "What is your plan?"
"Trust me, I've got this."
