Eighteen
"Come to see me desiccate?" Damon glowered.
"This is the only way you were going to survive, you big baby." I threw him a blood bag. It was enough that he could escape. "You better take that with you. They're already pissed about the whole hybrid thing. Thanks for that, by the way."
"You weren't trying to save me."
"And look where it got you. Fucking chained to a wall and hovering just above desiccation. If you'd just kept your mouth shut, I could've gotten you both out. Elena's been worried sick, blowing up my phone every five seconds." Would Damon know what the runes are?
"How long have I been gone?" His eyes drifted downward. "You had the baby."
"A month or so, and yes. Today actually. Healthy baby boy." Well, it wouldn't hurt to try. "You wouldn't happen to know what this is?" I pulled at my neckline and turned so he could see the mark.
"No idea. Sorry sweetheart." He started drinking.
"It's fine." Damn it. "Do you know where Klaus is?" I sat down in front of him and gestured for the blood. "I managed to sneak some earlier but the gaping wound I have is slow to close."
Damon's lip curled in disgust, though he did as asked. "Last I checked, he was heading to New Orleans, chasing some she wolf."
I nodded, sipping some blood before giving it back. "Good. Did it seem like he was giving up on me?"
"In my experience, he doesn't give up, just shifts his attention. Kathrine said she had people she'd catch just watching her." So I'd have to watch my back more closely.
Noted.
"And she just offered this information up willingly?"
"She rants." Damon shrugged.
"Alright, so New Orleans, you're positive?"
"Pretty much. Or at least it's a place to start."
"Why was he chasing a wolf?" He couldn't make hybrids anymore.
"Word on the street is, she was pregnant."
I burst out laughing. "No fucking way. You're telling me he knocked up someone else?"
"She didn't have the favors you did, so she ran." He shrugged.
"Smart girl."
At least I had somewhere to start.
"I never said thank you, for what you did in the grocery store. It was a ballsy move." It almost made up for the other stuff he did.
Damon rolled his neck. "You know me, I'm full of surprises."
"But really, you saved my son."
"Am I ever going to meet the little sucker or am I just supposed to stay down here forever?"
"No, dipshit. I gave you enough blood to escape on your own, even with my little sips. Go back to Elena."
He grinned. "I could kiss you right now."
"Save that for her."
"She's in love with Stefan."
I pat his shoulder. "Sure. And I'm the Queen of England. Every time I've been with her, she called you when she was scared, not Stefan." Before I'd gone to Denver, I stayed in the Salvatore mansion.
Elena Gilbert could get into a surprising amount of trouble without even really trying.
"Oh yeah, and who do you call, between those two flannel lined bozos upstairs?"
"Cute. Nice deflection, Salvatore." I rolled my eyes.
"They're not gonna let you go, you know. To face the dragon all by your lonesome."
I huffed a laugh. "What makes you say that?"
"You are their Elena."
Now that, made me laugh. "Absolutely not."
"No? Two hunters, taking in a pregnant supernatural. You got them to back off killing Tyler, hell even what they did to me." He held his hand to the side of his mouth in a stage whisper, his chains rattling. "The Winchesters aren't notorious for their mercy."
"They don't kill every monster they come across." I felt like I had to defend myself.
Damon gave me a look. "And yet they mow down entire nests and packs and covens, just the two of them."
"There's an angel on their side."
"They started and finished the apocalypse, several times." He deadpanned. "They're more than capable. Then there you are, the perfect bait for an Original, and they haven't jumped at the chance." They had known for a month already.
No, this was stupid.
"There's a little flaw in your theory. I'm not fucking either of them, we're all just friends."
"Right. You, a hot, single woman, living in a bunker with two grown men, and you're trying to tell me neither of them have tried anything?"
"You're making it into something it's not. Seeing patterns that aren't there. Neither of them have tried anything because they're not interested." I shook my head. "You know what, this is a pointless argument. I'm gonna make them walk me to the edge of the property with my boy. When you hear that, you bolt. This'll probably be your only chance for a minute, just in case Klaus does capture me."
"So this is the end of the line for us."
"At least for now. You've got your stuff in Mystic Falls, because I know that town isn't gonna get any less dramatic from what Jeremy told me, and I've got my hunting stuff. Maybe I'll visit soon. I'll text to make sure it's all clear."
"Alright. I'll take it." He nodded. "Enjoy your hunters."
I waved him off, and got up. "See you later, Salvatore."
