Peter was sitting in class, the only class he had with Ned and MJ. He listened to the teacher in the front of the class as he was explaining a major group project that was worth a lot of their mark. Peter wrote down his notes, looking up once and a while at the slideshow the teacher was showing before looking back down to write. Since teachers have no sense of time and they think the students can copy down slides at the speed of light, Peters writing was messy and unorganized as he usually goes home and redoes the notes.
"And that's all, now. This project will be in groups of three, I'll be assigning them" the teacher said as he sat down and took out a paper. Peter sighed in relief as his wrist hurt from writing fast. He shut his notebook and put in it his bag as the teacher was calling out names, he listened out for his.
"Peter, MJ and Ned..."
Peter looked up before turning to make eye contact with Ned and MJ. Ned was grinning happily and MJ wasn't even looking at them. Peter chuckled and waited for class to end. After all the groups were made and topics were given, the bell rang.
"If you have any questions on your topic or this project, feel free to come to me" the teacher said as this was the last period. Some students went up to the teacher but Peter, Ned and MJ just packed up and left.
"Hmmm, hey losers, I think our library may have some information on our topic" MJ said.
"Is it even open after school today?" Ned asked
"Yup, today is a Monday" Peter chirped. The three talked among themselves as they walked to the school library. They entered the place, it wasn't as quiet as you would expect a library to be but what can ya say, it's filled with high schoolers.
They went up to the front desk. The school librarian looked up and gave them a warm smile.
"What can I do for you kids?" She asked.
"Ah, we have a school project and our topic is 'The Book of Devils', do you know where we can find information on that?" Peter asked. The librarians eyes dulled for a second before lighting up.
"Of course, follow me!" She said and got up, she told one of her assistants to stay at her desk and help other students as she helped the three. They followed the lady to the very back of the library where a open door was.
"Down there, section D-3" the librarian said. The three thanked her as she left.
"Urgh, we just had to get the topic where the information is in the school's basement library!" Ned exclaimed as they went down the steps.
"Why do they even have this?" Peter asked.
"Cause they couldn't fit all the books up here so this was made but people don't come down here much cause it's too 'scary'" MJ said.
"It is! Look, the lights even flicker!!!" Ned whined as they walked around the small basement looking at the bookshelves for D-3
"Bro, Peter is literally Spider-Man, stop freaking out" MJ said. Ned seemed to loosen up at that.
"Oh ya, I forgot" he said with a nervous chuckle as they searched.
"It looks like section D-3 is bigger then the others. I'll check here you guys check the other areas" Peter told them, MJ nodded and left, Ned following behind her.
Peter walked down the small aisle looking at the books for anything related to their school topic. He would pick up books he thought was interesting as flip through them before putting them back. He could hear the footsteps of his friends and their small talk as they were the only ones down here.
Peter reaches for another book when he heard a thump behind him to the left. He turned to see a fall book, the pages were facing upwards. Peter walked over and squatted down to see the book better. He picked up the book and stood up before turning to see the cover without loosing the page it was open on. There was nothing on the cover, Peter frowned before looking back at the page it was opened on.
"Neoyovsi...?" Peter whispered out loud, clearly confused about the weird word written in this book. Actually, now that he thinks about it, it's the only word on this page. He flipped through the book to notice all of its pages were empty but for the one single word he read. A chill ran up Peters spin and that's when he noticed the deafening silence, he couldn't hear the voices or the footsteps of his friends. Peter didn't think as he dropped the book and turned before running to where he last heard his friends.
"MJ?! Ned?!"
When he found them he didn't notice the dead look in their eyes, he was just relieved to see them.
"Oh thank the lords your okay, I found the weirdest book!" Peter exclaimed. MJ and Ned blinked.
"Oh, that's weird, can we see?" MJ asked. Peter nodded and told his friends to follow him, still not noticing the dead look in their eyes. When Peter got to the aisle he was in he froze, the book he dropped was now gone. Maybe he put it back on the shelf without realizing...?
Peter walked over to where he remembered he found the book and looked for a book with a blank cover but at last, he found nothing.
"I-It was right here!" Peter said and turned to his friends.
"Are you sure your not like hallucinating or something?" Ned asked.
"Guys I swear!" He exclaimed before sighing. He felt another weird chill before feeling eyes watching him from behind. He gasped and turned to see no one, his spidey senses weren't tingling so he didn't think much of it. He turned and noticed the dead look in his friends eyes but mistook it as exhaustion from searching for a while.
"Let's go home guys, we'll come back tomorrow" Peter said, Ned and MJ only nodded as they made their way upstairs to the noisy library. They left, Peter saying bye to the librarian as they went to their lockers and gathered their things. They then left the school and went their separate paths. As Peter walked he passed by a store with windows to show off cakes. He turned to look at some of the cakes when he noticed his reflection.
He had a black strip on his hair, a weird black marking under one of his eyes and that eye was now pitch black. Peter gasped and touched the markings before turning and making a fun for it towards his apartment. He entered, greeting his aunt May but making sure she couldn't see his face. He entered his room before closing the door and letting out a sigh. He threw his bag into his bed before grabbing his clothes off of his chair and changing. He then left his room and quickly went into the washroom without his aunt noticing and locked the door behind him.
Peter looked in the mirror and frowned, he turned on the tap and splashed water on his face, trying to wash the mark off but it wasn't working, he tried soup too but at last, it didn't work. He then decided to check out the black strip in his hair, he tried to wash it off but it didn't come off. To say Peter was confused was a understatement. He then sighed, there was nothing he could do but he can at least try to cover it up. So he left the washroom and went into his room where he began to search through his things. A long time ago he had a friend who was obsessed with eyepatches and Peter once asked if he could get him one which he did. Peter soon found the black eyepatch as Peter asked for a plain one. He placed it on, making it cover his left eye, the one which was black and had a mark. He checked the mirror in his room and was satisfied that it covered it up, just a bit of the mark was poking out but in his opinion, it was fine. For his back hair strip, he had no clue what to do. All he can do for now is wait for the next day and ask his friends about it.
—————
Peter walked to school, his aunt wasn't happy that he 'dyed' his hair but she was fine with it. He also managed to convince her to let him wear the eyepatch to school, it was weird but he kinda liked it. Peter was weirdly early but he was fine with that and entered the school, he put his things in his locker and sat down on the floor near his locker. He pulled out his phone and played some games as he waited for MJ and Ned.
Time passed and soon he heard his name, he looked up to see Ned and MJ walked to him. Peter put his phone in his pocket and stood up.
"MJ! Ned!" Peter exclaimed.
"Aye dude! Uh, what's up with the eyepatch?" Ned asked after high-fiving Peter (Covid-19 would never-)
"Ya, and when did you give yourself a black strip?" MJ asked. Peter chuckled.
"I decided to when I got home cause, why not. And the eyepatch, my very close old friend gave it to me and I guess I just missed him and decided to wear it today!"
"Oh, okay. Both looks good by the way" MJ said and Peter smiled, happy they bought his lie. They began to walk to their class.
"Hey guys, did y'all feel like a weird chill when we were in the library basement?" Peter asked
"Library basement...?" Ned asked, confused
"Ya, yesterday. The library was open after school cause it was a Monday and all. We got our project and went to the library to get information and the librarian said to find it in the library basement" Peter explained.
Ned and MJ stopped making Peter stop.
"Peter, there's no library basement" Ned said
"And today's Monday, yesterday was Sunday" MJ told him before the bell rang.
"We have to go, see you. Don't wanna be late for class" they said and ran off to their different classes, leaving the frozen Peter alone. Students rushed by him, trying to get to their class as Peter stood still.
"What..." he whispered before turning and jogging to the library. He entered and went to the front desk.
"Miss!"
The librarian looked up and smiled.
"What can I do for you?" She asked.
"Section D-3, in the library basement. Can I go there? Also what's the day today??" He asked. The librarian stared at him in confusion.
"I'm sorry but, there's no library basement. We have a section D-3 up here though. Also it's Monday" she said. Peter froze.
What the hell is going on...?
