the writer pt.3

Tom's thumb traces my knuckles as we stand backstage of another one of his interviews. I almost have to keep pinching myself to be sure that it's all real. This is my life now. Nearly two years of officially being Tom's girlfriend—well, fiancée now, even though the public doesn't know that yet—and it still takes getting used to.

"You okay, love?" Tom whispers to me, and I nod in reply. "I was thinking—"

"That's usually a good thing." I tease, which makes him laugh and shake his head. "Sorry, go head."

"Well, our anniversary is coming up, and I want it to do something special. So—"

"Tom, they want you on stage." Harry calls, unknowingly interrupting his brother. It makes Tom sigh and rest his head against mine. "Dude, c'mon."

"Go ahead, babe." I tell him with a soft smile and quick kiss. "We can finish talking when you're done with everything."

"Fine, but only because I have to." He teases. "I'll see you after, love."

"Just remember to be careful, Spoiler Man." I call after him, which makes him turn around to offer me a mocking glare. "Love you."

Harry shakes his head as Tom heads out into the interview. "Sometime I think that you two are such an odd couple, but then I remember that I'm the one that set you two up. I'm still waiting for a proper 'thank you' by the way."

"Really? I've already told you 'thank you' like a hundred times before." I shake my head at him. "For real though, thank you, Harry. If it wasn't for you, I don't know if this would have happened if not for you."

"I'm sure it would have. It might have just taken a little while longer." Harry tells me and bumps his shoulder with mine. "You make him really happy you know."

"He makes me really happy too." I smile at Tom from my spot backstage as he greets Jimmy and the interview starts. It starts off with the usual basic questions, and Tom talking about the past two months in Cleveland filming with the Russo brothers.

I have to hold back a laugh as he talks about the fact that him and Harry know nothing about basketball. "Yeah, my girlfriend was trying it to us, but it didn't go well since she didn't know much about it either. So we were just sitting there drinking and made this other version of how they should play." He pauses mid-chuckle, "It didn't really work."

Harry and I try to hold in our laughter as him and Jimmy try to figure out each superhero's football teams. "You mentioned your brother and your girlfriend. Are they here with you tonight?"

"Yeah, they're actually backstage."

"You know, I actually met your brother last time you were here. I'm always curious about it. Does he um—does he work for you?"

"I work for him if I'm being honest. We just set up a production company together, and we've been writing a script together with Y/N's help. So yeah, if it weren't for her and Harry, I wouldn't be here right now."

"Why do you say that?" Jimmy asks with a smile.

"Because I'm stupid. Harry tells me where to go, and Y/N keeps me out of trouble."

"It's a full time job if I'm honest." I mumble to Harry, who chuckles. "Sometimes I wonder how he managed this long without me."

"Trust me, it wasn't easy for anyone before you came around." Harry replies with a smile. I roll my eyes at him and turn back to watching the interview as he starts to talk more about the script writing process.

"Yeah, it's a process. Usually it starts with like twenty minutes of arguing, ten minutes of productive work, and then we don't speak for two days. I swear, like half the time it's just Y/N making revisions and being the mediator between us."

"He has a point. You're pretty much the only one who gets stuff done between all of us." I smile at Harry and shrug. "I'm serious, Y/N. If it weren't for you, there wouldn't be much of a script if you hadn't agreed to help us out."

"Wow, Harry. You make it seem like I'm the one who should be getting the proper 'thank you' around here."

"Oh, no." Harry sighs as he look back to the stage. "He's telling the story about carpentry school."

"Hey, as long as he doesn't spill the secret, I can handle it one more time." Tom continues on with the story, and Jimmy asks about the whole ordeal with Spiderman, which happened right around the time we got engaged. I chew on my nails as the interview finishes without Tom even getting close to mentioning that we're engaged.

He smiles triumphantly as he meets Harry and I. "Okay, that was rough. I swear I almost called you my fiancee a couple times there."

"I'm glad you didn't." I tell him with a smile, which makes Tom frown at me. "Sorry, that sounded wrong. It's just, I'd rather it happen on our terms."

"Believe it or not, I have an idea about that." Tom grins with that look that makes me smile too. "In fact, I thought for our anniversary, we could spend some time in London and finish planning the wedding. Maybe we could even announce our engagement?"

"That actually sounds pretty great. I mean, we both could use a break after working non-stop." I smile up at him, "Have I told you lately that I love you?"

"Yeah, but I never get sick of hearing it." Tom tells me as he presses a kiss to my forehead. "I love you too in case it wasn't obvious."

"It is, but I never get sick of hearing it."

"Ugh. Sometimes you two are so cute it's gross." Harry calls as he approaches. "C'mon, let's go before Tom spills the secret with all the heart eyes."

"He's has a point." I grab Tom's hand and intertwine our fingers. "Plus, we've got some planning to do."

"Is it weird that I'm excited for it?"

"Not at all, 'cause I am too." I reply and kiss him with a beaming smile. "Love you, babe."

...

The week passed us by in a blur of Tom finishing his interviews, trying to work out wedding plans, and eventually crashing on the comfy couch in his London flat until the jet lag wore off. After that everything was a rush of spending time with his family and trying to plan the upcoming wedding.

I smile and lean against the doorframe as I watch Tom and Paddy trying to see who can do the most flips. They both grin when they see me and wave me over. "Careful, Tom. It look like Paddy is getting close to showing you up."

"I know, right?" Paddy cheers with a lopsided ring.

"But there's no way he can do my signature move." Tom cheers and moves into position to do the flip.

"No! Don't you remember what happened last time you did that?" I shout before he can start, and he stays quiet while I continue, "You broke nose. Remember?"

"Yeah, but this time will be different." He smiles at me with that look he knows makes me melt.

"Fine, but please, don't break your nose again. Especially before the wedding." I turn to paddy with a devilish grin as I start to walk away, "If he does, you have full permission to smack him and remind him that I warned him."

"Wait," Tom calls as he follows me to the doorway, "where are you going?"

"Well, now that we finally have the time, I'm going to a fitting for my dress." I smile and give him a quick kiss. "Harry's taking me. We should be back in a few hours."

As if on cue, Harry appears, but the look on his face makes me nervous. "Hey, have either of you been online recently?"

"Not since we announced the engagement." I tell him with a shared look of worry with Tom. "Dare I ask why?"

"Because somehow the wedding invitation was leaked?" He offers me a sympathetic look as he hands his phone to us, which show hundreds of comments, reposts, and tweets all with the exact details of our wedding.

"Well, I suppose that's a whole lot of planning down the drain." I sigh as Tom wraps me in a tight hug and rubs circles on my back. It helps me keep calm instead of bursting into tears at the situation and instead calmly ask, "What do you want to do?"

"I don't know. We'll work something out though." He pauses to press a gentle kiss to my forehead. "You're taking this fairly well."

The comment makes a sad laugh escape me as I pull away enough to meet his eye. "That's only 'cause you're here and I know we'll work something out. If I'm being honest, what matters most is that we're getting married. Heck, it could be in a dumpster and happy so long as I get to say my vows with you."

"And here I thought I was the cheesy one." Tom jokes with a smile, "Why don't you go relax? I'll see what I can do to take care of this."

"You sure?" Tom merely nods in reply, and I take a deep breath as I head inside to hopefully sleep off my developing migraine. The moment I make it to Tom's room, I fall onto the bed and fall asleep for a few hours.

The next few days, Tom is acting odd—even for him. I walk into the living room of his house and immediately stop when I see him standing there with a wide grin on his face. "Okay, I can't take it any longer. What are you doing?" I ask him trying to fight a smile at his giddy expression.

"Nothing you won't find out soon." He grins and kisses my temple as he hands me my bag and ushers me to the door. "Now, do me a small favor? Go shopping with Harry for a little bit?"

"Sure?" I agree even though I doubt I could say no. Tom grins happily and kisses my temple as he opens the door to reveal Harry already on the other side. "Harry, do you know what's going on?"

"Yep, but I'm not allowed to say." He replies with a laugh at my obvious confusion. "C'mon, we've got a lot to do today."

Harry and Tom both share a look as the former drags me to the car and all around town for a variety of errands. I tick them off on my fingers as Harry drives us to another mystery errand, "Mani/pedis, a hair appointment, shoe shopping? I have a feeling I know what's going on, but I really don't want to be wrong."

"Well, we're at our last stop. So you're about to find out." He tells me as we pull up to Tom's house, and I turn to Harry confused once again. "Go inside, I'll meet you there in a minute."

I almost refuse, but curiosity gets the best of me and I head into the flat. "Tom?"

"Sorry, sweetie, he's a bit busy right now." A familiar voice calls as they round the corner.

"Mom? What—what are you doing here?" I question even though the pieces have fallen into place. "Is this—did Tom?"

"Mhm," she hums and smiles at Harry as he enters with a large garment bag. "Now let's finished getting you ready."

I nod but pause for a second to wrap Harry into a tight hug. "Thank you."

"For what? All I did was help keep you busy."

"You and I both know it was a lot more than that. So thank you, Harry."

"Thank me by getting ready. I'm pretty sure Tom will have a nervous break before too long." He jokes and leaves me to likely go put on his suit. I take a deep breath and wipe away the tears as I follow my mom and finished getting ready.

"I can't believe this is really happening." I tell her and hold back the tears as I look at my reflection. "I can't believe Tom did all this."

"Are you kidding? The way he looks at you—he would do anything for you." She grabs my hand and leads me through the house and to the backyard, which is now full of fairy lights, flowers, and all of our loved ones. Not to mention, the love of my life waiting for me under the arch.

It takes everything in me to not run right to him right then. "You look—wow." He sighs as I meet him at the end of the aisle.

"Same goes to you." I whisper and try not to cry as the wedding starts, and I cherish each second of it as we exchange our vows and rings.

"I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride." The minister says, and Tom doesn't waste a second to pull me towards him and kiss me like it's the first time.

"I love you, Mrs. Holland." He whispers and pecks my lips between each word.

"And I love you, Mr. Holland." I tell him and hold onto his hand as I process this is all real. This is the start of our forever.
