christmas eve with the avengers {p.p}
May pulls up to the cabin with a wide grin, and I grab Peter's hand as I try not to bounce right out of my seat. "Can you believe it? We get to spend Christmas together." I cheer and beam at my boyfriend, "For the first time since we met, we'll be in the same country for the holidays. No Thanos, no impending doom, or anything to worry about besides whether or not we'll like each others gifts or if Thor will find our snack stash."
"It will be nice. Won't it?" He asks as we both look out at the cabin. "Mr. Stark even told me it's supposed to snow."
"Really? I've always wanted a white Christmas." I pause and revise myself, "Well, at least getting to celebrate one. Last time that happened for me, I was getting shot at by Hydra."
"Well, I'm just glad you'll have a chance to celebrate." Peter smiles and presses a kiss to my temple. "Trust me, I'm gonna make sure it's great."
"Literally you just being with me and not having to fight already makes it awesome." I press a kiss to his cheek and hop out to help May with the luggage. "I still can't believe this! A real Christmas!"
We barely get a few bags unloaded before Tony comes rushing out with a beaming smile. "I thought you would never make it."
"Yeah, yeah." I laugh and give him a hug. "Thank you so much for inviting us."
"Well, I wasn't going to miss a chance to celebrate after everything that's happened." There's a sad tone to his voice as smiles softly at me. "You been doing okay since—?"
"I've been getting better. It's been hard with Bucky off in Wakanda, SHIELD no longer needing me, and Nat—gone." He nods as shows me inside. "All the more reason I'm excited for this."
"She literally hasn't stopped talking about it since you called us." Peter adds as he carries our suitcases inside. "So, who all is here so far?"
"Almost everyone, which means it's gonna be a tight fit." He glances over at us with a smirk.
"No funny business though."
"I'm not even gonna justify that with a reply." Peter just laughs as I walk away with a grin. The two of them continue to talk as I find the others and join the chaos of the Avengers. Thor is playing with Morgan, Sam and Bucky are playing some odd game, and Pepper is talking with May as they lounge on the couch. I sneak up behind Bucky and put my hand over his eyes.
He startles and grabs my wrists out of reflex in the split second before he realizes who it is. As he does, the game with Sam is long forgotten as he turns and wraps me in the tightest hug imaginable. "You made it. Nice to see you again, kiddo."
"Of course, did you really think I was gonna miss this?!" I question and hug him back. "I've missed you guys so much. I honestly didn't realize just how mind-numbingly boring civilian life is."
"It takes some adjusting, but I would've thought it'd be a welcome change for you." Sam replies as I take a seat between him and Bucky. "You know, not getting shot at all the time or constantly saving the world."
"I'm not saying it's not. It's just been hard for me, and I can't seem to figure out what to do with my time or what I'm even good at besides the obvious." I let out a sigh and look over to where Peter is playing with Thor and Morgan. "Peter's been amazing though. I'm honestly surprised I haven't driven him crazy yet with how often I tag along on his patrol's or rebuilding his legos and computer a hundred times over."
Bucky and Sam offer each other a look, and I smack them both upside the head as a reminder to be nice. "Hey, all I was gonna say is that it's good to know he's making you happy. Because if he wasn't, I'd have to gave a word with him."
"No need. He's a great guy." I smile over at him, and he quickly returns it when he catches my staring. "I just wish Nat was here with us too. She always told me she wanted me and Peter to get together."
"She did more than just talk about it. Why do you think you two always got paired together for missions and such?" Sam asks with a smile, and it suddenly makes sense. Nat was a top notch spy. It makes sense that she would nudge us together.
After a few hours of mingling and a chaotic dinner in the living room, I sit on the floor with Morgan, who is telling me a story about the adventures of her blue elephant, Philip. She stops mid-sentence and looks at me with wide eyes. "What's up?"
"Are you and Peter in love? Like how mommy and daddy are?"
I feel a blush creeping up my cheeks at the question and nod, "Yeah, we are." The statement seems to satisfy her as she continues playing with her animals before running off to see if she can get Thor to play dress up.
Peter slips into her place and offers me a mug of hot cocoa, which I happily take. "So, this is what Christmas is normally like, huh?"
"Basically. It's different for everyone, but this is pretty much it—loud and chaotic."
"I kind of like it." My gaze moves over his shoulder as I see a haze of white appearing outside, which makes me hastily set down my mug and run outside. "It's snowing on Christmas Eve!"
Almost everyone runs outside to check out the drifting snowfall. The cold rushes over me, but I ignore it as I sneakily make a snowball. A giggle escapes me as I hide it behind my back, and Peter gives me a strange look. "What are you doing? You have that look on your face that you get when you're up to something."
"Me? Up to something? Never." I tease and in a quick motion hurl the snowball at Peter. Except, with this spider senses, he ducks out of the way, which leaves it sailing straight into Bucky's face. "It wasn't me!" I shout and get a running start to dodge the snowball already being hurled my way.
Of course, it misses me and hits Tony, which starts a whole snowball war. Thor roars with laughter, Bucky and Sam team up, Pepper and May smiles from the porch, Tony finds himself a place to hide while he creates a stash of snowballs. Meanwhile, Peter grabs a hold of my waist and swings us off to a safe spot.
"You do realize this is cheating, right?" Peter nods, and I shrug happy with the simple answer as he goes back down and tosses me an arsenal of snowballs which we use to pick off the rest of the Avengers one by one. That is, until they collectively team up against us.
"No, I'll protect you." He shouts as the snow comes from everywhere, but I miss most of it with Peter's body wrapped around mine. "Fine, fine! We surrender."
"Good, that ought to teach you two to mess with the original Avengers." Tony cheers with a wide grin, and I shiver in Peter's arms from the snow tangled in my hair. "Now, everyone, get inside before we all freeze."
After we're all warmed up and had dinner, we all go our separate ways for the night. I curl up on the small mattress and watch Peter from the warmth of the covers as he sets the alarm so we can get up before the inevitable chaos.
"Hey," I whisper as I rest my head against his chest and look up at him, "I feel like we've barely seen each other all day."
"I know, but it's nice to get to spend time with everyone again." He tells me as his fingers brush through my hair. "Especially after everything that's happened."
"Definitely. It's strange; even after everything Hydra did to me when I was a kid and all the missions with SHIELD, that was the worst thing that's ever happened to me—to any of us really."
"I know, but at least we got through it. We're still here. We won." He smiles sadly at me and gives me lingering kiss. "And I'm not gonna let that happen again. You'll never have to go through that alone."
"Just one of the many reasons I love you, Peter Parker."
"I love you too, Y/N L/N." He pauses and rest his forehead against mine for a long moment as we take in each other's warmth and comfort. "We should probably get some sleep since we'll get woken up early. Goodnight."
"Night, babe." I tell him as he wraps his arms around me, and we fall asleep.
"Wake up, wake up, wake up! It's Christmas!" Morgan cheers as she jumps up and down on the bed and tumbles on top of Peter and I. "C'mon, we're gonna open presents."
"Go ahead of us, Morgan. We'll be down in a minute." I tell her with a soft smile and nudge Peter, who is rubbing the sleep out of his eyes and the hair in his face. "Babe, it's Christmas. You've got to get up."
Somewhere in his sleepy state, Peter's arms tighten around me as he pulls me closer. "Five more minutes." He whispers as his lips brush my neck, and I brush the hair out of his face as he keeps his eyes closed.
"Don't make me get May—or Thor." He shoots up in bed with wide eyes, clearly remembering Thor's method for waking people up. "There we go. Now c'mon, let's go open presents!"
I grab onto his hand and practically drag him after me with the same level of excitement as Morgan. Everyone is gathered around the fireplace and Christmas tree with blankets, mugs, and smiles all around. Morgan is on Tony's lap, wiggling around impatiently. "Finally! Now we get started."
Peter sits on the floor next to the tree and helps Morgan pass out the presents to everyone. He whispers something to her, which makes her giggle as she brings me a large box messily wrapped in Spiderman paper. "This is from Peter." She tells me with a wide grin, and I easily return the smile to her and Peter.
She bounds over to sit in Tony's lap as I pass Peter his gift from me. "I guess we got each other then." He shrugs, and we both look over to the rest of the group who all grin sheepishly. "Honestly, you think we would have expected this."
"Presents!" Morgan shouts as she reaches and tears open her first gift within reach.
"I agree with the young Stark." Thor smiles as he holds up a box. "Presents."
Everyone laughs as they follow suit, but we each wait our turn. When it gets to Peter, I bite my lip and watch him patiently as he peels back the paper to reveal the little book I assembled. "What did you get?" May asks from her spot in one of the chairs, even though she already knows exactly what it is.
"It's a coupon book. 'Two nights of solo patrol.' 'Free cuddles.' 'One night of me leaving you alone.'" He answers absentmindedly as he flips through the pages before looking up at me and smiling, "I don't know if I'll use many of these."
"Keep going a little further."
Peter does as I ask and lets out a laugh as he reads it, "'Unlimited stitching and first aid. Even though I already do that for you.' Okay, that one, I'm definitely using. Thank you, babe."
"I think there's a few more in there you'll use, but I'm just glad you like it." I smile at him, and he returns it with a kiss to my temple.
"Open yours now." He whispers and wraps an arm around my waist. I peel back the Spiderman printed paper and smile at the sight of the lego Avenger's tower set. "This way, you can have your own set to build when you're bored."
"It's perfect." I whisper and give him a kiss, which makes most of the group gag mockingly and Tony shout something about innocent eyes. Peter just smiles sheepishly as he tugs me to my feet and leads me outside. "Peter, what are we doing out here? It's freezing."
"Well, I wanted to give you something else." He tells me as he fumbles around to grab something out of his pajama pocket. My eyes widen as he opens up a ring box with a simple silver band nestled inside. "I got you this too. It's a—um—a promise ring. So here it goes, Y/N, I promise to always be the best I can for you, to be there when you need me—and especially when you don't, to love you the way you deserve, and to always have your back in a fight. If you'll have me, that is?"
"Of course. I don't think there's any one else in the world who would have put up with me for this long or anyone I'd rather have by me through it." He slips the ring on my finger and smiles at he looks at something above my head. "What—?" I follow his gaze to where—surprisingly—a sprig of mistletoe was strung up by some Spiderman webbing. "And here I thought Tony said no funny business. Still, it is tradition."
"And we can't break tradition." Peter whispers as he leans in a little closer.
"Of course not." I smile as our lips brush and kiss him. "Merry Christmas, Peter. Thank you—for everything, but especially for making this holiday so perfect. I love you—so much."
"Merry Christmas, Y/N, and I was just about to say the same to you. I love you too." He leans forward for another long kiss, and I can't help but smile against his lips. This really is the best Christmas ever.
...
Merry Christmas (Eve)! Happy Hanukkah! Or whatever holiday you celebrate this time of year!
