Redemption (request)
Is this the 100th part? No way! 100 posts here, and I still don't own Marvel.
Also, I have changed the cover in honor of 100 parts, and because the cover was awful anyways. I don't own the photo, I just put the title over top of it.
This was requested by @darkdragon1995 I hope you enjoy!!
Warnings: injury, probably medical inaccuracies. Also, I don't know what animals live in rural New York, so it's a bear, and I don't know what to do when cornered by a bear, so... *shrug* You'll see what I mean.
"Is everyone packed up for our class wilderness retreat?"
Peter's class was huddled around a bus at 5:00 in morning, still rubbing sleep out of their eyes and lugging bags of clothes and toiletries.
"Why can't she just call it camping?" Ned mumbled. He was not a morning person.
Peter, on the other hand, was definitely a morning person. He was bouncing on the balls of his feet, waiting for when they could get on the bus. "I'm so excited!"
MJ, neither a morning person or a night person, glanced at Peter with her normal indifferent look. "We can tell, loser."
Peter grinned, entirely unashamed.
"Okay, everyone! On the bus!" Mrs. Warren called.
Peter practically skipped to the bus, sitting in the first seat next to the teachers, with Ned in the window seat so he could rest his head there and sleep. MJ sat behind them, alone-Betty had tried to join her, but MJ has placed her backpack on the seat next to her very decisively, and Betty moved to sit next to Cindy.
Mr. Harrington chuckled as he looked at Peter's bright eyes and wide smile. "Excited?"
"Very!" Peter exclaimed.
Their short conversation was interrupted by Mrs. Warren taking a headcount, and then they were on their way. Peter put his earbuds in, knowing Ned wasn't going to talk to him until at least 7:45. After several long hours, the bus pulled to a stop by a campsite in rural New York.
The students piled out of the bus, glancing around in awe. Most of them had never been out of the city, and while they weren't stupid-they knew forests existed-they had never seen one in person. Peter was similarly in awe. He'd never been anywhere outside of the city, but the nature was beautiful. They were in a loop of several empty lots, and the teachers had a stack of tents near them.
"Okay, children!" Mr. Harrington yelled. "We have a list of who are sharing tents. Please come to me to receive your tent, lot number, and tent-mates. If you need help setting up the tent, give us a shout."
Peter pulled Ned over to the man.
"Peter Parker. You are in lot 63 with Ned Leeds and Flash Thompson." Peter's smile faltered, but he was soon distracted by Mr. Harrington dropping a tent in his hands and giving Ned a few pieces of paper. "Here's your tent, and the instructions to set it up. I also gave you the rules and schedule for the week and a map of the site. You two can head over to your lot, and I'll send Flash your way when he comes here. Mrs. Warren will be walking around to help with tent set-up if you need it."
Peter staggered slightly as Mr. Harrington gave him a push in the direction of lot 63. He readjusted his grip on the tent and went to set it down in the lot.
"Dang. Flash is with us. That sucks." Ned said eloquently.
Peter frowned slightly, but perked back up. "It won't be too bad."
Peter skimmed the directions and quickly set the tent up, then went to help MJ, Betty, and Cindy who were struggling to pin the tent down so it wouldn't fly away. MJ was doing fine, but the other two were glad to have some extra help. When he came back to his lot, Flash had just arrived.
"Okay, Parker. Because I want this to be a good trip, I'm calling a truce. No fighting. Deal?" Flash said curtly.
Peter thought that honestly, Flash was the only one who ever fought, but he agreed. The three sat down on a few logs and read over the rules for the trip.
"Looks like we have some free time right after dinner tonight." Ned said. "We have to stick together, but we are allowed to do anything so long as we are back before quiet hours. That's our curfew."
Flash glanced at the site map. "It looks like there's a trail nearby here. We could go on a hike?"
In an effort to get along for the week, Peter quickly agreed. "Yeah! That sounds fun!"
Flash glanced at him, then looked at Ned. "Is he always this energetic?"
Ned seemed shocked at the causal teasing, but went along with it. "Pretty much, yeah."
Peter pouted, but got distracted as the teachers called for everyone to get some dinner. As they ate fire-cooked hotdogs, the teachers explained a few things.
"We have you a list of rules, a schedule, and a map of the site when we first got here. If you haven't read those, do that." Mr. Harrington said.
"Immediately after we are done here, the group with clean-up duty will help us wash dishes. Everyone else has free time. Every day, a different group will have clean-up duty." Mrs. Warren continued. "During free time, you are allowed to go anywhere so long as you stay with your tent mates. You can go with other groups, as well. As long as you are back by quiet hours at 10:00, do whatever you want. There are activities listed on the map."
Peter, Ned, and Flash finished their meal quickly and headed to trail they wanted to go on. It was only a mile long, but it was listed as "rugged," so they assumed it would take them a while. Peter brought a flash-light and his web-shooters under his sleeves. Flash had a large water bottle, and Ned held the map.
It only took a few minutes before they were out of sight of the campground. The trees surrounded them, and the lack of light gave the whole area an eerie feeling.
"Guys..." Peter glanced around nervously. His spidey-senses were going off but he couldn't tell why. "I don't feel so great about this anymore."
Ned immediately understood what he was trying to say, and his eyes got wide, also scanning for danger. Flash, on the other hand, snorted. "Come on, Parker. It's only a mile long. You can handle it."
Peter bit his lip, but nodded and trudged on. Ned slid up next to him.
"Hey, are you okay?"
"I don't know." Peter whispered. "My senses are going crazy, but-"
Suddenly, a bear leaped out of the bushes and jumped towards Flash. In an instant, Peter leapt between them, taking the full force of the blow. He screamed loudly, knowing bears where scared of loud noises. He didn't quite feel the pain, yet, but he knew it would kick in as soon as the adrenaline died.
The bear moved back, away from the loud noises Peter was still making, and Peter webbed it up securely as soon as he could. Ned rushed to him as he collapsed. Flash just stood in shock.
"Ohmygod! Whatdoido?whatdoido?Peter, I don't know how to handle bear scratches!!!" Ned screeched.
Flash seemed to recover and knelt down next to Peter, who was putting pressure on the heavily bleeding scratches on his chest. Almost robotically, he removed Peter's hands and wrapped the wounds tightly. "We'll have to clean and re-bandage those when we get back." Flash sat back on his heels as Peter sat up.
"Umm...thanks, man." Peter said sheepishly.
"No problem...so, Spider-Man?" Flash supported Peter with an arm over his shoulders as they headed back the way they came. They weren't going to l finishing the trail.
"Yep." Peter muttered.
"Do you have a healing factor? Because if you do, we are going to need to hide the injury so no one gets suspicious."
Peter glanced at him. "Umm. Yeah, I do. Question, though. Why aren't you freaking out?"
Flash made a weird sound, almost like a mix between a scream and a chuckle, and responded. "Oh. I am, I'm just trying to keep calm until we get you back to the campsite and fixed up. It's no good to freak out in the middle of a crisis."
Peter felt his respect for Flash grow immensely.
"I'm sorry, by the way." Flash said after a moment of silence. The campground was in sight now, so Peter pulled away to walk on his own. It would be suspicious if he limped out supported by his bully.
"For what?" Peter asked, hiding the grimace he wanted to make as he put his weight on his own feet and felt a deep gash in his right thigh.
"For bullying you. I-I took out a lot of my anger on you, and you didn't deserve it. I'm sorry. You-Spider-Man is my hero. He's the kind of person I want to be, and I think I can start being that person by apologizing to you." Flash said. They reached their tent, and Flash ushered Peter inside an onto a sleeping mat. Peter lied down and let Flash take care of his wounds, cleaning and bandaging them with an expert hand. Ned stood by, watching to make sure no one would come in.
"Thanks man, that means a lot." Peter said. He winced as Flash did something to the gash on his leg that made it sting.
"Sorry." He muttered.
"Hey," Peter asked, "have you ever thought of being a doctor? Or like an EMT or something? You do really well under pressure, and you seem to know what you are doing medical-wise."
Flash finished up and sat down next to Peter. "Actually, that's kind of my dream job."
Peter nodded and pulled a fresh shirt on. "Cool. You'd be good at it."
Ned interrupted their conversation with two words. "Teacher alert."
Peter shoved the medical supplies under his sleeping bag and sat up just as Mr. Harrington poked his head in.
"Hey, Guys. Just checking in. Quiet hours are in a few minutes. I suggest getting some sleep tonight. We have a lot planned for tomorrow. Goodnight!"
"Goodnight!" The boys chorused back.
After that day, Peter and Flash didn't seem to hate each other anymore. They got along pretty well, and even became friends after Peter made a habit of going to Flash whenever he got injured as Spidey. Flash berated him every time for not being careful.
The End.
I hope you enjoyed!
Bye!
