Can puppy eyes and curls melt a frost giant's heart?
The Avengers, meaning Steve, Bucky, Natasha, Bruce and Clint, were all lounging around in Stark Tower on a lazy Friday afternoon. Peter was at school, Tony was in his lab and Thor was out shopping for pop tarts. Thor had also left Mjolnir back at the Tower.
They had no missions that day, or for the next few days, so they finally got some well deserved down time. They were all enjoying the quiet, until Peter walked into the room, threw his bag by the doorway, hopped onto the ceiling and sighed loudly.
Natasha rolled her eyes at the sight of Peter's dramatic entrance.
"How was school Peter?" She asked, knowing his attitude was about that.
Peter flipped off the ceiling and then laid on the ground before he answered.
"I don't know why that hell-hole exists."' He said as he threw his hands into the air.
Natasha and Clint let out a small chuckle while Steve's mouth gasped in shock.
"Language Peter!" He said.
Peter rolled his eyes.
"Sorry Uncle Steve."
"It's okay Pete, but why don't you like school?" Steve asked the boy.
"It would be easier to name the things I like about it, which is nothing." Peter exclaimed.
Bruce was laughing now too and Bucky chuckled as well. Steve just rolled his eyes.
Steve was about to come back at Peter when Tony burst into the room dramatically.
"Like father like son." Natasha whispered. The whole room lost it when they heard it and it took them a few minutes to finally calm themselves down.
"Listen up children," Tony said as he rolled his eyes, "we have a surprise mission from Fury."
Everyone groaned but went to go suit up. When Peter jumped up to go get ready, Tony stopped him.
"Sorry kiddo, no Spiderman on this mission. We need Hulk since Thor can't come, and I don't want you getting smushed." Tony said sternly.
Peter tried to protest, but a hard look from his dad made him keep that thought to himself.
"Fine." He mumbled.
Once they were all suited up, they said their goodbyes to Peter and hopped into the quin jet.
Peter watched them leave and waved, until they were out of sight and he returned inside.
{•••}
A few hours had passed since his family left, Thor wasn't back yet, and Peter was bored out of his mind.
He had spent most of the time bouncing a web ball back and forth against the wall. He sighed and flopped down onto the couch thinking of something he could do to pass the time until his dad would be home and they could go spend some time in the lab together.
Peter decided to get up and go make himself some tea. He walked into the kitchen and boiled the kettle. Just as he was about to poor the water into his mug, he heard the elevator open.
'Oh Uncle Thor must be back.' Peter thought to himself. He finished making his tea, and he turned around to talk to his uncle.
When he saw who stood in front of him, he dropped his mug and it shattered on the floor. There was a skinny raven haired man, dressed in a green and black outfit with pale skin and green eyes.
The man looked at Peter with a confused expression on his face. Peter felt a dull tinge of Spidey senses in the back of his mind, like there was a threat, but not imminent danger.
"Who are you?" Peter asked the mystery man.
"I am Loki Son of Odin and God of Mischief." Loki introduced himself.
"Son of Odin? Are you Thor's brother?" Peter asked.
"Yes, unfortunately that big oaf is my brother." Loki replied.
"Well it's nice to meet you Mr. Loki!" Peter smiled widely and held out a hand for Loki to shake. Loki hesitantly shook his hand.
"You've never heard of me before?" Loki asked.
Peter thought for a moment. He heard a few avengers say that Thor's brother was a bad person, but the man standing in front of him seemed kind!
"Nope! Not really." Peter shrugged. Loki smiled.
"I never got your name."
"Oh! My name is Peter Parker-Stark." Peter said proudly.
"You are the son of Stark?" Loki asked shocked.
"Well sort of... Mr. Stark adopted me after my aunt passed away." Peter said quietly.
"If it makes you feel better, I'm adopted too!" Loki smiled.
"Wow! I didn't know that gods could get adopted!" Peter said with enthusiasm.
"Yes, yes we can. Odin adopted me when I was just a baby." Loki explained.
"Wow that's so cool." Peter gushed.
"Would you like to see some magic?" Loki asked Peter.
"You can do magic too!?"
Peter and Loki spent the next few hours being amazed by magic. Well Peter being amazed, and Loki being happy that he's finally made a good impression on someone.
"Hey Mr. Loki?" Peter asked.
"Yes Peter?" Loki replied.
"Since I call Uncle Thor, Uncle Thor, and he's your brother, can I call you Uncle Loki?" Peter asked shyly.
"I would very much like that Peter." Loki smiled.
Peter smiled back. Loki looked around the tower and he laid eyes on Thor's hammer.
"Is that Mjolnir?" Loki asked.
"Yep! Uncle Thor usually leaves it here when he goes pop tart shopping." Peter explained.
"Wait, can you lift it Uncle Loki?!" Peter asked.
"Oh no, I'm certainly not worthy. Have you ever tried it?" Loki asked.
"No. Can I?" Peter asked hopeful.
"Go ahead!" Loki cheered.
So Peter walked over to the hammer, and pulled up. Much to his surprise, he easily picked up the hammer. Loki however, didn't look the slightest bit surprised.
"I knew you would lift it Peter." Loki smiled.
"How am I worthy?!" Peter exclaimed as he stared in awe at the hammer in his hands.
"Well, you are the only person who's never judged me and made their impression on me based on the horrible things I've done in the past." Loki explained.
"Well everyone deserves a second chance, no matter how bad the thing you've done may be." Peter smiled back at his new uncle.
"And that's why you are worthy young one." Loki smiled.
Peter immediately got a new idea in his head and he jumped out of his seat.
"Have you ever watched Star Wars Uncle Loki?"
"No? What is that?" Loki asked confused.
"Only the best movies of all time!" Peter all but shouted, "you have to watch them with me!"
And that's how they spent the rest of the night. Peter laying on Loki's shoulder, barely awake, as they watch the Star Wars trilogy.
Peter had seemed to have forgotten about the avengers, until he heard the familiar ding of the elevator.
"Hey Pete we're ba- LOKI!?" Tony shouted.
"Peter get away from him NOW!" He yelled again.
As if he had just woken up, and not realized what his dad had said he smiled.
"Oh hey dad, me and Uncle Loki were just watching Star Wars." He said with a yawn at the end.
"UNCLE LOKI?!" They all shouted.
Loki smiled at the avengers.
"Yes, me and young Peter had a great night!"
"How long has he been here?!" Tony yelled.
"He showed up about two hours after you all left." Peter said.
Tony rubbed his temples to calm himself. Natasha had her gun pointed at Loki.
Clint had an arrow ready to fire.
Bruce was glaring at him.
Bucky was ready to attack.
Steve had his shield out in a defensive position.
"Peter, come over here now." Steve ordered.
Peter looked over at Loki and back at the team who were all still ready to attack.
"Why are you threatening him?" Peter asked with frustration laced in his tone.
"Because this is man who caused the battle of New York." Bruce said his glare not breaking.
"Wasn't that like 6 years ago?" Peter asked.
"Yes, why?" Clint said.
"Don't you think that's plenty of time for someone to change? Everyone deserves a second chance, even Uncle Loki." Peter said sadly.
The avengers looked at one another. Steve put his shield down, Natasha lowered her gun and Clint disarmed his bow. Bruce calmed down, Bucky relaxed and Tony looked over at Peter.
"Kid this is different, Loki-" he began but Peter cut him off.
"No dad! It's not different! We've all done bad things in our lives, and we were given a second chance so why shouldn't Uncle Loki get one? Dad, you used to make weapons for terrorists. Uncle Bruce, you destroyed a city when you hulked out. Aunt Tasha, you were an Assassin for a long time. Uncle Clint, you also assassinated people. Uncle Bucky, you weren't in your right mind when you did the bad things, but you still got another chance. Uncle Steve... actually okay you've never done anything ring but whatever. My point is, that if you all get the chance to redeem yourselves, why shouldn't he?"
Everyone stood in silence for a few moments. They were all unsure of how to respond. They all knew the kid was right, but they all had trust issues too.
"The kid lifted Thor's hammer." Loki said.
Everyone's heads snapped towards Peter.
"He was able to do it because of how pure his soul is. He is the only person who's ever made an effort to be kind to me. All my life I was judged because of my past, and I guess I just snapped. But I'm different now." Loki said and smiled at Peter.
Peter walked over to the hammer and lifted it up into the air.
"Wow kid. I guess you're worthy." Clint said.
Peter smiled back at his family.
Tony rolled his eyes.
"Fine, if worthy kid says that Loki deserves another chance, I say we give it to him." Tony said.
"Thank you, that's actually why I came here today. To apologize to all of you." Loki said.
"Apology accepted." Steve said as he shook Loki's hand.
All was well, until the elevator dinged once more. Out of it walked Thor with 25 bags filled with pop tarts in his hands. He laid his eyes on Peter holding Mjolnir high above his head and he dropped all of the bags to the ground smashing ecru pop tart in the boxes.
Everyone laughed, even Loki who was later given a floor on the table, and made an honorary avenger. His redemption was all thanks to the nerdy little teen with curly brown hair, and the sweetest puppy eyes that even managed to melt the heart of the coldest creature in the galaxy.
