What hurts you the Most

After a long rest Daryl was fine, his body no longer ached and his breathing was back to normal. He had a few bruises along his ribs from the assault but he was fine. He had slept through the rest of that day, and fully through the night. He woke as the sun beat down upon them. Cyndie and Andrea smiled seeing him wake. The afternoon was pretty quiet, no cannons, no screaming. That was a pity for the capital, so they decided to make it interesting.

Daryl was packing up his stuff when he felt the ground shake, Cyndie yelled as a rock rolled over her ankle. He raced to her side trying to keep himself steady. He picked her up, putting her on his back. Andrea collected the stuff and they began to run as the ground around them began to crumble.

"They're pushing us closer together." Daryl hissed as he carried Cyndie. The child was panicking watching the ground around them fall inward. Daryl was breathing heavily, his body began to ache again but they had to move. "Fuckers." Cyndie continued to panic, everything was crumbling. Everything was falling around them. Daryl raced down the hill side holding her tight. Eventually they got to a place where the world was no longer crumbling around them, Daryl set Cyndie down and checked her leg over. "Breath, you'll be okay." Daryl tried to soothe her.

Cyndie sobbed as he wrapped her ankle up, it was clear she was injured and Daryl was panicking. Andrea kept watch, that was when a voice appeared in the overhead speakers like the voice of god. "The cornucopia has been refilled."

"That could be useful." Andrea suggested.

"We won't go." He muttered picking Cyndie up. "We won't be safe. The idea is to get everyone together, the other group likely will go to the center too. They're not injured currently, as far as we know. I assume that I didn't kill any of them when I tried."

Andrea nodded. There were only a few of them left now, seven in total. Daryl cursed under his breath, that was when there was a small chime above their head. Daryl looked up as another parachute fell from the sky. Daryl stood up and caught it, inside was a healing balm.

"For you and the girl." The letter inside said.

There was no name attached, Daryl sighed in thanks and quickly began to unwrap her wound. He ran it over the injury before he peppered it over his own. "You've gotten a few of those now." Andrea smiled.

"I'm glad at least it could help us."

Andrea nodded, she watched him carefully when there was a second voice in the sky. "If you do not go to the cornucopia you will be forced into the middle. Choose now."

"God damn you." Daryl helped Cyndie up. "Andrea, you carry her." Andrea nodded, she picked up Cyndie and they made their way towards the cornucopia. Daryl held his hand up stopping them from moving as they could see it in the tree line. "Stay."

Daryl looked forward, he could see the group coming out of the treeline, they weren't as nervous as he was about protecting one another. Daryl lifted his bow and let an arrow fly. It struck Lori between the eyes, she hit the ground and a cannon went off within seconds. Andrea looked up in surprise, she hadn't expected him to take someone out with such speed. Rosita, Shane, and Philip quickly shielded themselves back into the woods.

"Three and three." Daryl whispered.

The groups were at a standstill. No one dared move, they knew the others were strong. Daryl took a deep breath as he looked down at the girls he was to protect. Rosita, Shane, and Philip decided to move but this time they were trying to get close without being seen.

Daryl heard a twig snap and looked towards the sound, he noticed movement in the trees nearing them. "Run." Daryl snapped.

Andrea quickly grabbed Cyndie forcing her to run on her injury but the healing balm had greatly helped and she didn't feel as much pain. The girls took off and Daryl turned with his arrow shooting into the place he noticed movement. There was a strangled cry as Daryl hit someone, but he clearly didn't kill them. Andrea and Cyndie raced inside the mouth of the Cornucopia hiding between boxes and weapons. "Grab the food." Andrea whispered.

Daryl moved back as he heard more movement, he was exposed now out in the middle but he needed to stay close to the girls.

Philip and Shane appeared, Rosita held her wound. Andrea peeked out as Daryl moved back trying to keep themselves safe and out of harm's way. Daryl cocked another arrow ready to shoot when Philip held up a shield. Daryl aimed for the legs but Philip dodged it.

Daryl was focused on the two men infront of him, he didn't see Rosita slink into the mouth of the Cornucopia. Andrea yelped as she was slammed into the nearest wall. Daryl couldn't turn his back or he would be killed, he kept moving backward in an attempt to get closer to the girls he was to protect when Cyndie came running out of the mouth of it. Everyone turned as Rosita dragged Andrea out by her hair.

"What are you going to do now pretty boy?" She asked, Andrea struggled trying to pull away. A knife was placed against her throat.

"Don't." Daryl lifted his bow, but the others were growing close.

Cyndie threw her trident but it landed at Shane's feet. Shane picked it up and smiled, cocking his head at the girl. "Run." He suggested. Cyndie looked between Daryl and Shane. Shane lifted the weapon aiming right at the girl. "Run."

Cyndie turned and took off, Shane chucked the trident. It clipped her ankle causing her to fall face forward. Daryl looked between Andrea and Cyndie, Andrea only nodded, she knew what he wanted to do, what he felt he needed to do. Andrea stomped down on Rosita's foot, the girl growled but didn't drop her. Daryl cursed as he turned his arrow towards Shane who was racing towards Cyndie to finish the kill. He let his arrow fly.

He shot him right in the middle of his back, blood dripped from the wound as Shane dropped to his knees. Cyndie turned to look back, she tried to move but her ankle was shredded.

Rosita slit Andrea's throat, and two cannons went off.

Shane's body hit the ground, and Andrea's body was dropped.

Daryl turned to look between the two as he raced towards Cyndie. He picked her up quickly and raced off, the others hot on their trail.

Daryl swore on his breath.

He knew the chances of survival were low now, but he wasn't just going to give up on her. He couldn't just give up on her. Cyndie clung to Daryl, blood dripping from her wound. "Just leave me."

"No." Daryl hissed. "No." He held her close, he already lost Andrea he couldn't lose her to.

He knew the others were close, he could hear them. Rosita was injured, but he had only gotten her shoulder. "You're out of luck Daryl," Philip snapped. "We are going to gut you both."

Daryl looked down at Cyndie, he knew there was a chance he could get them somewhere safe. She was weighing down on him, he heaved as he ran up the hill, his body aching. He lost his footing and they both tumbled down the side of the hill. He grabbed onto her so she wouldn't hit her head. They both landed in the river with a splash, the clear water turning red. They sat up and Daryl attempted to pick her up when a knife barreled down the hillside.

Cyndie let out a gasp of pain as the knife hit her mid chest. "No.. No no Cyndie no!"
