Keep Moving, Keep Pushing
"Keep moving, we need to find him." Shane snapped. "He is our biggest threat."
"He missed when he threw a knife at me." Lori tried to reiterate. "How big of a threat is he?"
"I doubt he missed." Rosita retorted. "He let you run, I just don't know why."
"He told me I was stupid." Lori bitched.
Rosita could only laugh. "Did he say it in those words exactly?"
"Well no," Lori shrugged as she adjusted her hair behind her ear, "he asked me what the hell I was doing without a weapon."
"He wasn't wrong, what were you thinking?" Philip asked as he rolled his eyes. The night came quickly and they wanted to know who all had died other than their kill earlier. They were surprised to see Morgan from four was dead but Cyndie wasn't.
"You can't be serious... A child is still alive but he is dead?"
"We just gotta kill all of them and get out of here, it isn't going to do us any good leaving a big competitor like Daryl alive and I think he is protecting Andrea at the very least."
Lori, Rosita, Shane and Phillip kept moving. Movement caught their attention and Phillip quickly raced forward with his weapon ready to kill. A scream escaped Aaron's lips, the fourteen year old tried to fight against him but he was quickly cut down, blood spurted from his throat while he dropped to his knees falling face down into dirt.
A canon went off causing all the other survivors to jump in panic.
Daryl tried not to cry as he continued to carry Cyndie along the rocky ground. Andrea was keeping up with him the best she could. "We gotta keep going, I already know there are going to be people looking for us. My score, they're going to be looking for me because of my score so we just have to keep pushing."
"Daryl.. When it comes down to it. I want you to keep going." Andrea murmured as she continued to follow him. Cyndie sniffled, her head against his shoulder, he grunted as he readjusted her in his hold. She was heavy but he was pushing to keep moving, keep going.
"Andrea, don't talk like that." Daryl snapped.
"At some point I am going to die, at some point you are going to be alone without me to help. At some point you're going to need to keep moving without me around. Keep living without me, keep living without me and Cyndie if it comes down to it. You're going to live, we all know it, we all know you're going to survive."
"Please just shut up, I don't need to hear it. I don't want to hear it."
"What, that you're going to make it out of here? Marry the son of the president and that boy from your district."
"I need you to please shut it." He snapped again. "The more you talk the more chance there is someone is going to hear you which means all three of us are in danger." Andrea grew silent quickly, she didn't want to make them a sitting target. Cyndie finally jumped off his back and trudged behind him. "We gotta just keep moving." Daryl whispered. "Cyndie I'm so sorry that he's dead but honey we just gotta make it out of here alive."
"Only one of us is going to make it out of here alive." Andrea muttered. "You know that, so because of that, we got to make sure you survive it so lets keep moving, we are following you."
Daryl muttered to himself and continued to walk along the rocky mountain side. Daryl froze hearing a sound in the bushes. He quickly pulled a knife from his waistband and tossed it, Andrea and Cyndie quickly readied themselves for someone coming out of the bushes. Daryl pushed the bushes to the side and pulled his knife free with a rabbit hanging from it. "Got food."
"Oh good.. A rabbit."
"You hungry or what?" Daryl asked as he set up a small camp site. "It's all okay. All of it is going to be fine." He grunted, noticing the sad look in Cyndie's eyes.
"We should probably eat." Andrea agreed. He quickly started to skin the rabbit while the two watched in disgust. "Gross."
"It's either this or nothin' so you choose." Daryl grunted before he stuck a stick through it and began to turn it over the fire he started. "Keep an eye out for anyone that may come around. The fire is gonna be something that people follow, fire means bodies. Bodies mean someone to take out. One less person to fight, one less person to worry about."
The two girls continued to watch him cook while also doing their best to keep track of anyone that might be around. It was clear Daryl was the one best suited for being in this environment. It was less than perfect, but he knew what he was doing to survive at least.
They ate the rabbit as quickly as they could before they started moving again once Daryl kicked the fire out. "Come on lets go, if we make our way up the mountain side I'm sure there is gonna be something to hide in. For the night at the very least. With that canon I think there are eight or nine dead if I am correct."
"We will be fine, I know it." Andrea smiled rubbing his shoulder. "You've been doing a great job so far, keeping up safe."
Daryl mumbled to himself, he wished he had warned Morgan about the water better but it was clear if he had said something the higher ups would know someone told him and he couldn't have that. He couldn't have people think that the president's son had helped him. There would be an outcry and the districts could rally. Not that Daryl didn't think the games should end, but he didn't want to be in the middle of any of that shit. He would rather someone else figure it out, he just wanted to survive, survive long enough to get out of this.
