This rubric is the one I was given to judge the Golden Bubbles Awards.

1. Technical Aspects (0-10 points) *note you do not have to nitpick every line just make sure that the book has generally good grammar/quality.

Is the writing clear, polished, and free of major grammatical errors?

2. Writing Quality (0-20 points)

Assess writing style (or "author voice"), including use of language, descriptive abilities, and dialogue. How effectively does this enhance the reading experience?

3. Plot, Pacing, Storytelling (0-20 points)

Is the storyline engaging and well-paced? Does it maintain the reader's interest throughout?

Evaluating the effectiveness of plot structure and overall storytelling techniques?

4. Character Development (0-10 points)

Are the characters believable and well-rounded? Do they experience growth or change throughout the story?

Examining character(s) motivations and growth throughout the story and their impact on the overall narrative.

5. Emotional Impact (0-10 points) *Not necessarily limited to joy or sadness.

Reflect on how the book made you feel as a reader (do not be biased, leave your preferences at the door).

Discuss the story/author's ability to evoke emotions, and how it effectively crafted emotional moments.

6. Originality & Creativity (0-20 points)

Uniqueness of book's concept, ideas, approach to the genre. Assess the author's ability to bring fresh perspectives or innovate within the genre's conventions.

7. Themes and Messages (0-10 points)

Identify the underlying themes, messages, or social commentary present (whether controversial or discussing a certain stigma) in the book, and how well they are conveyed in the narrative.
