Leaving for the 'boarding school'

"Thank you for coming!"

Toko bowed to the customer as she exited the shop, satisfied with the cake Nika had baked. They always take turns to bake. Tomorrow it's Toko's turn. After that, Valt's. And then their mom's. And it goes on. Their father never bakes because he's not good at cooking, so he acts like the manager of the shop. He talks to the customers and give the bills and gets the money for our family. Such a good dad. He agreed to help with the bakery even if he don't know shit about cooking.

A good dad...

Huh...

Is he?

After the bakery was closed, Toko headed towards his room with Valt and Nika to do their homeworks before dinner.

There are a lot of difficulties in the world. It's important to overcome them with sheer power and smart thinking. And we need help for the people we trust as well. Life is never easygoing in kinds of thing like...the one Toko is suffering with right now.

Homework.

Toko sweatdropped seeing how much homework he had. He sweatdropped even more seeing Nika finishing them in full speed. Valt just stared at his homework as if wishing them to disappear in thin air. And then, Toko got an idea.

"Nika, mom told you to go down before dinner so that she can tell you something." Toko lied. Nika gave a start.

"H-huh? Oh, then I'll be going." Toko did feel guilty about what he was going to do after, but Valt had better plans.

"I know you are thinking of nicking her papers and replacing them with your own. Better, why don't you just copy it into your book?" Oh. Why didn't he thought of that. Toko gently took Nika's paper from her desk and started taking photos of it using his tablet. Once it was done, he kept it back in place as the boor burst open and a fuming Nika stood on the doorway.

"TOKO FRICKING AOI!"

The said person gulped, while Valt gave a thumbs up as good luck. Nika dragged her poor twin out of the room, and slammed the door behind her.

"WHY THE FUCK DID YOU LIE TO ME YOU FREAKING ASS BITCH!" Toko flinched at his sister's anger. She was the pure definition of hothead. After a whole hour of yelling, Toko was send back to the room while Nika went to the kitchen saying that she wanted to help mom and dad.

"Wait- Why did Nika go?" Valt asked.

"Huh?"

"She usually don't go without completing her homework. And she told us to remind her if she forget.

"Oh..." Toko motioned Valt to come with him to bring Nika back as it wouldn't be very nice if he goes alone after what happened between them a second ago.

As they climbed down the stairs, they heard quiet sobs. Both the brothers exchanged questioning looks and decided to eavesdrop on them. They crouched down outside the nearly closed kitchen door.

"But...why?" They heard Nika's wail. Their dad sighed.

"I'm sorry darling, but there is no choice. They will kill our whole family if we don't do it. Please try to understand."

"B-but..."Nika struggled to breath, "What about Toko? Don't tell me you don't love him anymore." The said son's heart sank deeply.

"I'm not saying that I don't love Toko anymore. I'm just saying that sending one child will be better than all my children and my wife dying. And they specifically asked for Toko. And they won't kill him. They promised me. They even said that they will send the daily routine he follows there. He won't be in any harm. Please Nika, try to understand..." What are they talking about? Send him where? God this start to sound scary. He was someone who never heard the work die or kill anywhere but on movies. He can sense Valt panicking beside him too. But there was nothing but their usual normal conversations in the kitchen after that. So the brothers sneaked back to their room.

Once inside and door locked, Toko clutched his chest and leaned on the wall, sliding down it to the ground. "Oh my god, Valt. What are they talking about?"

Valt was shaking too, but not as bad as Toko.

"Kill...Dying...Threatened...This doesn't sound good, Toko. We should immediately tell mom and dad to reject whatever shit it is." But Toko shook his head.

"Didn't you hear them Valt? They will kill our whole family if I didn't go. And they won't kill me either..." The brutal word sound so unfamiliar and different from his mouth. This time it was Valt's turn to shake his head.

"They might even be lying Toko! Why would they want you? We haven't done anything, right? Have you Toko? Toko?"

"I haven't! I swear! W-w-why do they want me of all the people in the world? Valt, I'm scared-"

"DINNER'S READY!"

Both the brothers froze. Chiharu's voice made them realise that her voice wasn't present in the entire conversation in the kitchen. They wiped every trace of their fear away and rushed downstairs, Valt with his usual cry of "BEYBREADS!"

Everyone in the dining table was smiling the usual warm smile, except Nika, who kept a strained sort of face.

Toko quietly sat back on his seat and started eating his food, avoiding Nika's nervous face so that no suspicions would be raised. Valt started gobbling up everything in sight like usual. The other three ate like the normal humans they were, neither too slow and quiet, nor too quick and undisciplined.

Bedtime came sooner than usual, but before they could go back to bed, Kento called them to the kitchen.

"So Toko my boy...We are sending you to a boarding school."

Toko felt Valt tense up ever so slightly beside him, pinched his leg to stop him from exposing their knowledge. The lie was easily laced through their dad's tongue, Toko could tell that it was no boarding school. Toko pretended to be excited and smiled widely. "Ok!"

Next morning, his bags were all packed, Nika was crying softly beside Chiharu and Valt was still shaking a little. Toko gave him a wink, telling that he will be fine, to which Valt nodded.

"So, Toko, you're ride will be a little far away. Mind if we both walk to there and wait for the drive to come?" Kento asked. Toko nodded, kissing his sister's cheek and hugging his mother and brother tight, knowing that this will be the last time they will see each other in a long time. The father son duo went towards a bus stop and waited.

"Did mom knew?" Toko asked. Kento looked at him puzzled.

"Did mom knew I wasn't actually going to a boarding school and was only leaving so that we won't be killed?" Kento froze. He didn't expect Toko to know about this. "Did Nika told you?" He asked slowly.
Toko shook his head. "No, we heard your conversation last night. Before dinner."

Kento sighed. "I'm so sorry son. I know you will never forgive me but-"

"It's okay, dad."

Kento looked at his son, amazed.

"Tou, I just send you to-"

"I don't know where you send me, but they threatened us, and that's why I know you didn't had a choice. And besides, they won't kill me, would they?"

Kento smiled sadly. "I have the best son in the whole world. And yes, your mom knew, but she didn't knew exactly where you were going."

"Then where am I-" Honk!

A large black car was standing in front of the bus stop. It had a gold model of an eagle on it's hood and neon green door handles and window borders. The car was seemingly...posh.

"Bye son, take care..." His dad kissed his forehead and hugged him tight, making the driver of the car pretend to vomit by their cringey goodbyes.

Toko took all his bags and got in the car, the driver eyeing his in an uncomfortable way. Toko shifted in his seat as the driver started driving, glancing at him once or twice through the mirror. And finally, they had reached their destination.

Toko's eyes widened.

He didn't expect this.

A mafia hideout.
