Zina's Song

When somber cradle
on dust borne floor
rocks there unstable
by hands quite sore

When nature cries
on the wayward wind
against the fathers
who bear their sins

The ones who pay
still drawing milk
from mother's sorrow
and mankind's ills

There did Zina
grow in the chains
of a broken world
filled with shame

To feed the guilt
and ease the head
And cover the naked
on the bed

He made his own
compromise
and traded the light
in her daughter's eyes

For his life
such as it was
he let them have
his only love

Evil that grips
the darkness of men
makes powerless
the ties of kin

Would not for the hell
and the hand of fate
the tides that turned
may have come too late

But one day Zina
witnessed the dawn
when Persuveus arrived
and she found her song.
