Chapter 06 || My Criminal

•••

"take care of yourself and call me when you're there,"

hayeon nods, hugging taehyung tightly as she now thinks if she should really go or not for leaving taehyung would be too much. she looks up at his face, seeing him being worried, which quivers her will even more.

"maybe i shouldn-"

"you should," taehyung cups her face in his large hand, smiling at her, "you missed your dad, and i don't want you to cancel your plans with him for me."

hayeon breaks into a smile, pecking his lips and holds his hand, "i'll miss you,"

"i'll miss you more," he whispers, kissing her deeply and nibbles on her lower lip gently before letting go, leaving her breathless for a second, "go now, bye,"

she pulls away, taking her suitcase and waves at him for the train arrives. hayeon waits for the doors to open, glancing back at her boyfriend who's smiling at her with fond eyes, waving again as he nods his head towards the train, bringing her attention back to her front where the doors are open and people are already getting on and off.

"bye tae, love you," she says, getting inside, waving at him and he smiles at her, mouthing to her that he loves her more.

the train departs soon after the doors are closed, hayeon still stands in front of the door, taking time to realise that she did leave taehyung and is now going to see her father in busan. she sighs softly, shaking the thought away as she focuses more on the fact that taehyung will be happy if she's happy, so she should definitely use this time to set herself free along with the joy of reuniting with her dad after almost a whole year.

she takes her seat, smiling to herself on finding the seat next to her empty, recalling her over-protective boyfriend booking it too just to make sure she wasn't crossing paths with some creepy perverts during the journey. she rests her head back, closing her eyes as it's almost a three hours time of sitting and doing nothing in this train.

her phone buzzes with a notification, bringing a subconscious smile to her lips on seeing it's taehyung;

hayeon
lol what will u do? put them in jail?

taehyung probably went to help out jimin for he doesn't reply. hayeon smiles at the phone, resting back again and stares out of the window, smiling softly at the distant trees and greenery sprinting in the opposite direction. her eyes eventually fall into a spell of drowsiness, drifting into dreamland where she meets this man for the second time since yesterday.

he has a tattooed arm, a lip piercing, and an eyebrow piercing! his face isn't clear, but she can see that he has a crooked smile, dangerously attractive and somewhat a sign that says she should back away. however she feels safe for he's still at a distance, being the only one steady in a background of people moving past him in a blinding pace. hayeon gulps nervously, staring at the man who then turns around, walking away and disappears in the crowd as though he never existed.

from a place nearby, she hears a voice calling for her. the voice is too familiar to not recognise, making her look back and see a panting jimin stopping by her. "it's him hayeonie... it's him,"

she stares at him, not knowing what to say as her head turns again swiftly to find the man where he stood, but there's nothing now, not even the people buzzing in the market. she sighs softly, facing jimin and points behind her, unable to speak which jimin notices and wraps his arms around her, rubbing her back gently.

a pat on her shoulder pulls her up from her seat, gasping as she's out of her slumber with a jolt, looking around and finds the seat next to her empty. a man dressed in formals is standing by the seat, smiling nervously, "i'm so sorry miss, i didn't mean to startle you,"

"n-no, it's okay, may i help you?" she asks,

"ah actually i wanted to ask if this seat is taken? actually, my son isn't well and we couldn't get a reservation at the last minute," he says, which is when hayeon notices there's a small boy standing with him. he looks not more than five years old and seems like to be on the verge of having one of the heaviest melt downs.

she nods quickly, gesturing her hand for the boy to sit, "sir, which station is it?" she asks, looking at the man who's answer makes her panic and rush out of the seat. "i need to get off here!"

"oh le'mme help you," he says, grabbing the suitcase that she's struggling with and leaves his son on the seat, walking hayeon to the door of the coach. "is anyone here to get you?"

"yeah, my dad should be here," she nods once she's on the grounds of the busan station and sighs deeply, sending a smile to the man along with a bow, "thank you sir, have a safe journey,"

"thank you," he smiles before heading back inside to his son.

hayeon sighs at the train departing, acknowledging that she's in her hometown now. the land where she was born and spent most of her life with her father. the soft smile from her lips doubles on hearing a voice behind her, making her gasp in surprise, throwing herself on the man without thinking twice.

"dad! i missed you!" she squeals, soon hearing a heartfelt chuckle from her father as he hugs her back, lifting her off the ground.

"i missed you too, hayeonie," he says, kissing the side of her head and pulls away, scanning her body from head to toe with his eyes holding tears and hands cupping her face, "my little girl, are you not eating properly? i told you no diets, those are unhealthy,"

"i remember, dad and that's why i don't do diets," she pouts, hugging his arm, "this is normal,"

"no, you've become skinnier. i gotta talk to taehyung,"

"ah no, i can't stand two people always telling me to eat."

the father ruffles her hair, taking the suitcase and heads towards the exit, talking all the way about how he has prepared everything for his daughter, from her room to her favourite foods menu for as long as she's staying and most importantly the daddy-daughter dates that they missed.

the first thing hayeon notices in the parking is the new car her father walks up to, making her gasp, touching the bentley and then looking at her dad, "wow... this is so good," she whisper yells, earning a chuckle in response from the father. "where's the other one?"

"at home, i didn't want to sell it," he replies, fastening his seat belt just as hayeon does and drives off away from the train station.

"can i have that while i'm here?" she stares at him with hopeful eyes, making him laugh.

"no," he says, "but you can have this one because i got this for you,"

"what? really?"

"yes, a brand new car for my princess,"

"aw thank you dad! you're the best!"

"i know," he winks at her playfully, stopping at the signal when he looks at her, "hayeon-ah, there's one thing i forgot to tell you,"

"what?" she asks, peeking at the backseat casually and gasps, bringing the brown bag of meals from mc donald's. "mm thanks for this too," she muffles out, chewing on the fries and sips the drink, "you were saying something?"

"yeah," he smiles, driving again on green light, "remember a few months back i said there's this guy living with me? your age, because he needed some help."

"oh yeah, he's still there?"

"yes, he's very sweet though. won't be a problem for you, i already told him my daughter will be coming home."

"oh no problem dad, your friend is my friend. at least i won't be bored when you go to work- wait, he would go to work too right?"

"yeah, he works,,"

"oh that's fine," she nods, "better than me, i don't work at all."

"you're a writer, and that's also a tough job."

"yeah, kind of," she nods, smiling as the car pulls in the driveway of the house and hayeon steps out, admiring the same house as always full of warmth, love and loads of memories. the garden in the front still has those flowers and green grass, what's new is that the small plant from years ago has become a big tree now.

she chuckles softly and points it, "it grew up with me. what did i name it?"

"nemo," the father laughs, "because you liked that movie about that baby fish and his dad,"

"yeah right, nemo," she giggles, touching the tree once before heading inside. her eyes wander around the entrance, then to the living room, smiling at all the pictures on the walls and some on the shelves. then she looks at he book shelf, one whole row being empty, just two books there and the shelf is called, hayeonie's masterpieces.

she knew what it meant, her father had told her on phone that he's got the top most shelf of his books corner reserved for the books she writes, and as she'll continue in future he'd develope a separate library for everyone to read his daughter's creations.

"sit, i'll get some water for you,"

"no, no, i'm good," she smiles, showing him the drink and the fries in her hands as she sits on the couch, kicking off her shoes and looks around for the remote control of the television. "where's the remote dad?"

"ah i don't know, must be here somewhere,"

"leave it," she shrugs, facing her father and offers some of her snacks to him which he refuses with a smile, letting her have all of it, knowing she must be hungry, "tell me how are you? and work?"

"everything is perfect. you tell me how are things between you and taehyung?"

"we're good," she smiles, "he's the best guy i've ever met an-"

"and he loves you a lot, takes care of you, i know that. so have you thought anything of future with him?"

"uhm which means?" she gives him a confused look, making him sigh as he pats her head.

"nothing," he stands up, hearing the door clicking open and smiles, "ah jungkook-ah, you're back son, come here i want you to meet someone,"

hayeon frowns at that, staring at the doorway with her eyes awaiting the entry of the guy who lives here with her father on rent. a black pair of jeans and sneakers meet her gaze first, leading her on up from the lose white hoodie and finally to his face, makes her gasp when she notices the lip ring and a shiny one on his eyebrow.

she chokes on her drink, coughing a little but gains herself back, staring at the new face with wide eyes, "my criminal..." her lips mutter to herself. then she shakes her head, wanting to make sure she's not mistaking anything and stands up on her feet, walking towards the guy.

he does have a lip piercing and even an eyebrow piercing. his lips are thin and tinted, and he also has a scar on his cheek! she blinks a few times, rubbing her eyes and stares harder, still seeing those details from her criminal, "it must be a coincidence..." she whispers to herself, gathering herself again and smiles awkwardly, noticing him eyeing her suspeciously.

"hi... i'm hayeon," she says, holding out her hand.

he hums, shaking her hand and smiles briefly, "jungkook,"

"jungkook..." she nods, finding his gaze too hypnotic to look away, "it's nice to meet you, jungkook,"

"nice to meet you too," he nods, pulling his hand back and turns to her father, holding out a plastic bag, "pork belly as you wanted,"

"ah thanks, we're gonna have a special dinner tonight!" hayeon's father chirps, "you kids should go to your rooms and freshen up. i'll call you when the food is ready,"

"thanks uncle, i might help you if you want," the jungkook guy offers and hayeon snaps out of her staring bubble, looking at her dad as well.

"i'll help you dad," she says, not wanting to sound rude when the stranger is ready to lend a hand to her father and she doesn't.

"thank you, but i'll manage. you both must be tired," he says, patting her head and nods towards the stairs, "go, and tell me if you need something okay?"

"yeah, thanks," she smiles, hugging him tightly and gathers her snacks, heading up the stairs, "oh my ba-"

"jungkook-ah, would you mind helping her please?" the father says and jungkook smiles, already lifting up the suitcase, gesturing the girl to start walking. she sips from her drink, about to tell her which room is hers, however to her surprise, he's already going the right way, stopping by the second door on the right hallway.

"you knew?" she arches up her brows and jungkook nods.

"your dad told me when i first moved in. he talks a lot about you,"

"oh well, yeah," she hums, opening the door and motions his hand for him to put the bag a few steps now that he's carried it till here. "how old are you?"

"older than you," he smirks.

"you look very similar to someone," she points out, "i'm twenty-one by the way, i mean turning twenty-one in two weeks."

"i know," he nods, "the bag wasn't that heavy, you could've lifted it yourself."

"then what will you do?" she jokes, offering him some fries, getting an amused look from him as he takes one fry and nods. "well, you can have these, i'll get changed and i've to save some space in my stomach for dinner or else dad scolds me y'know? for not eating properly,"

"thanks," he says, taking the fries from her and walks to the door, "my humble advice to you is you should stop staring so much,"

hayeon feels her cheeks heating up while jungkook sends a wink and a mischievous grin in her direction before walking away, whistling casually.
