i keep hoping, and Heaven knows i try

but, that is not fireworks i see in the sky

there is no celebration

no hugs or kisses or smiles

just a silence that deafens

a grief that stretches for miles

i have stood on the mountain and yelled

my words lost in the screams of those felled

there is no joining of hands

no unity across the world

no love thy fellow man

how many flags must unfurl

i have done all i can

can you ask more of any man

none of this makes any sense

and to be honest, i have no more patience
