"Lost Wishes"

I wound my way down the dusty path, suspicious

As rats wallowed in the stagnant water of the ditches.

I passed trees, bushes, and long-lost wishes,

Alone. I was alone and stranded! Passing

bits of lives gone and abandoned-

Black birds, murders of them, cawed and crowed-

As I continued my trek down this coal-black road.

I could hear croaking of some prehistoric amphibian

and my feet echoing into oblivion.

Thin as a stick and undernourished-

I passed through a deep dark forest.

Spinning and dancing as the master commands

skeletons stretched out their twig-like hands.

Slowly, there was a lifting of the shrouds.

The road became lighter, coal turned to clouds,

Which grew wider and whiter.

The colors once again beamed brighter,

A wondrous tapestry ready to weave and

Bits of brightness echoed through the leaves.

Above the road a magnificent sunrise

with birds chirping their replies.

Lies!

Through the Paradise came my demise.

The truth was too sublime to deny

A mountain, stretching ever-forward to the sky.
