9:04 am
Friday.
He pulled the car to a halt and barged out. Visibly, he was still irritated at a couple of persons that morning. His father, the maid, and most importantly, the riffraff of a personal assistant that his father has. He was on the sixth floor when a feminine voice stopped him.
"Good morning Mr. Akindele"
A soft greeting from a sweet-looking young lady, Natasha Efiokwu, the marketing manager. But that alone wouldn't make him feel wholly better, but he forced the smile back.
He could still feel her gaze till he left for his father's office. He wouldn't want to deny the lady's greenlight to him. But she wasn't a priority.
"Good morning Mr. Akindele" Chief's personal secretary beamed and continued her work. Then the door creaked then she came out.
Anita's gaze fell on Seyi and her heart missed a beat. But she built up the courage to face his flamy glare like that of an industrial furnace.
"You're here to see Chief right? But I'm sorry he gave out an instruction that he doesn't want to see anyone right now"
"Whoever I came to see is none of your business brat" he muttered coldly and she flew away with a gasp from the door before he'd throw her away.
He walked directly to his father, who was snoring calmly on the office chair, sometimes rolling unconsciously. He groaned and rolled his eyes at the stress of waking him up. He clenched his fist and knocked the table. Chief's eyes flicked opened and he sat up.
"Ah! Seyi. You're here already. Welcome"
He nodded anxiously, eagerly waiting for him to finish with him quickly so he can go back.
"Do sit down"
"You see Seyi" he began.
"I was once like you. Yes! A young man like you. My parents had nothing to offer my growing business then compared to my you right. But despite they had nothing, I was still submissive to..."
His ongoing admonition was halted by Anita. It was only Seyi's death glare that sent her back before her father could ask for an excuse.
"I know you have a growing business new. But you can't just be here getting drunk and messing around the city. I guess your mum must have told you what happened yesterday..." He puffed out and Seyi's head dropped.
"It's alright Seyi. I've finally made a good decision for our family. You'll resume this office by Monday"
That announcement alone choked Seyi. There was no room for declination. Whatever Chief says is an order, not a proposal. He had great party plans from the weekend till Monday. He squinted twice at his fierce-looking father.
"I've discussed it with the members of the executive board today. They're all looking forward to seeing you"
Chief's lips spanned into a smile. "That's all I have for you, dear. Do have a nice day"
Okayy. Thank you sir" he slowed out and left.
At the secretarial office, he once again met the tiny chipmunk of an assistant. If truly he was going to become the new CEO, their drama just started unfolding.
After leaving his father's office, he drove straight to his favourite spot, Royal luxury to meet a childhood friend, Raymond Agunbiade.
He stared up at the balcony where Raymond stood, grinning before striding inside to meet him. Two ladies at the bar, one in a champagne gold short dress wearing nude makeup and the other in a bear skin jumpsuit wearing a glossy make-up picked fed their eyes and mouth with Seyi breathtaking look.
"Your boyfriend is damn gorgeous! Lola" the one bearskin jumpsuit squealed, throwing her head sideways to catch a glimpse of him again.
Lola felt flattered indeed by her best friend's remark. But she didn't feel heavenly like the latter anticipated. Just a pout and a sad smile.
"What's it, Lola"
"A lot Oge. Seyi and I are at loggerheads. Our ship is wrecking. Probably he found out about me and Elijah's affair..." She snuffed in a deep breath before continuing.
"He's has changed totally. He doesn't care when it comes to me. Wait does he before?" That followed a sad chuckle.
Of course, you know! Ogechi noted loudly in her mind.
"When it comes to Seyi. I have a lot of competition in and outside the country. Wo! That guy is not relationship material. He's for the girls''
"But I wonder how he always get to know about my cheating scandal every time"
Ogechi stared away then threw her arm around, Lola, with a reassuring smile.
"It's Okay. Everything would be fine huh"
Seyi stared at his wristwatch again for the umpteenth time to watch against the hell of a girl is entrapped with. Then his friend came along.
"Bossman!" Raymond inflated, offering him a masculine handshake. "You look haunted, what's up man!"
"Oga! My papa wants me to resume his office by Monday" he declared with a hiss.
"Congrats! Oh my goodness!! Am I take talking to the CEO of Led enterprise?" Raymond flattered more, making Seyi wearier. The former stopped, after noticing his not-so-good reaction.
"But aren't you happy? You always wanted to be on that seat, remember?"
"I know I had always wanted to be that... But"
"But what?"
"My dad and I gave issues. And it's just like the zeal is no more there"
Seyi frustratingly went over to the curtains and shoved them aside.
Raymond took a deep breath.
"You know what?"
He ignored him and got uncomfortable about his escape.
"Raymond. I don't want Lola to know I'm here"
Raymond couldn't help but titter.
"I laugh in Spanish. She has been here before you came. Didn't you see her downstairs? At the bar?"
Seyi shook his head and rushed to the window to get a glimpse of downstairs. "I can see her. She and that sex toy of a friend..." He mumbled still looking down at the ladies.
"Why are you avoiding her? Are you afraid of a mere lady?" Raymond grimaced.
"Don't you ever call a woman mere? I know what she can do. Create a scene so bloggers would eat and my parents should devour me with questions" he explained but ceased midway.
"But come to think of it. I'm the one on the safer side. I mean if I should broadcast all that she did, she'd never get her reputation back. I pray she avoids me when she sees me. Coz man! I'm boiling right now. She shouldn't just prompt the devil out of me"
"So...?"
"I gotta leave"
"To where?
"I'm horny. I have a Guatemalan model waiting for me at Eko hotels. Mennn you gotta see this girlll! She bam!" He grinned widely, drawing a curl in the air to depict the lady's butt.
"You're the true definition of a Yoruba demon!" Raymond remarked with a smirk.
"You can say that again" Seyi growled with laughter before Raymond joined him.
"I'll see you tonight," he said before retreating from the room.
Just a step to finish the stairs, he saw Lola standing with a tear-stained face before him. He snorted and rolled his eyes.
"Yes! What is it!! What do you want?"
"You! You!! Seyi. I don't want you, I need you"
"And you think this is the right place for you to discuss that? Look around you..." He pointed at people halting and staring.
"I don't care! I want the whole world to know you're the devil" she roared and more tears rolled down.
With that, Seyi had more than enough. He stepped back a bit, pointing his car key at her face.
"Really? You're done? I don't care too! I want the world to know you're a public toilet. Fool!"
Wheezes and gulps from angles reaped the whole niche. Some were taking photos and giggling. Seyi gritted his teeth hard while leaving the hotel. He just made a phenomenon he was avoiding.
Lola stood fixed at the point. She could not budge. She could feel the customers' gapes even though her head was bowing down. She began to sob. This time, real tears. That statement had tainted everything. Her image, her parents, and her father's political career.
Inside Seyi's car, someone knocked twice and he whined the glass down a bit. Alas! Ogechi.
"Come in"
She scanned the entrance first and rushed inside the car.
"I told you she's a cheat. If I start to show you all the men she has slept with..." She stroked her hair back and brought her phone.
Seyi stared at her with bloodshot eyes and clanged the steering lazily.
"You know what. I don't need to keep seeing all these things anymore. Thank you for your information. I have to go now"
She hunkered her nose in irritation then released her face to look appealing.
"But baby..." She whined, caressing his chest with her long sea blue acrylic nails. Seyi bluntly flung her hand away.
"Baby? Oga! Be going. I'll see you later"
"Okay!" She grumbled and excited in anger.
His arousal had gone down long ago. He drove home straight for a nap.
*********
5:26 pm
Anita's residence.
She threw right her arm and yawned loudly. Mistakenly, her left arm yanked her popcorn and it somersaulted. She groaned and glared at her friend, Ijeoma that have been grinning at her phone.
"Why are you grinning like a Christmas goat like this?" She couldn't help the irritation in her voice.
"Omo!"
"Kini?"
"My crush has just been trending since morning" she squealed with her tiny voice and Anita rolled her big eyeballs.
"Better be careful so it won't fall. Else my crush would sack you"
"He's my boss's son. Not my boss"
Ije's expression changed immediately.
"Tell me you're joking"
"That?" Anita wore a disturbed frown.
"Didn't your boss tell you? Nobody told you?"
"I left the office after his conversation with that devil of a son and I didn't observe the board meeting"
"It's all over the internet. Seyi is resuming as the CEO of your company. Taking effect as from Monday..."
Anita couldn't hear more. She quickly brought out her phone and checked the message she's been ignoring since. It was a message from Chief about his retirement and his son's takeover.
"Blood of Jesus!" She gasped and ran her fingers into her hair. "I'm done!"
"I know you always call him a devil. He's succeeding to devil you on Monday!" Ije laughed hysterically.
"Personally Assisting The Devil"
