Chapter 2 ( Gem mine)
Peridot's P.O.V.
I had completed my device with time to spare. After that big collision, I was a bit worried about what could have caused the Earth to shake with such force. Usually Steven and the others would have tended to the situation by now but I had a strong feeling they were not really aware of this situation. For me however, it was the perfect moment to see how effective I can be alone. I have great confidence in my skills. My run in with gem monsters may not have had the greatest success but this time, I'm going into the field with little if any experience from my last encounter. My device came in handy for such a purpose. In conclusion it detects specific light patterns emitted by a gem. A sort of tracking device.
I went on my way, hunting down the source of the earthquake as my device made slight noses with each step I took. However, after a few hours of searching, I began to feel doubtful. It was like I was detecting something that was never here in the first place. Something that big couldn't just disappeared right under my nose. I was getting impatient and was about to throw my device in the trash but then it started reacting to something nearby.
It made weird noises and blinked out of control. I was able to spot something on the screen, a very big red dot, indicating something right beneath me. The instant it became clear, my device exploded. Then suddenly, the Earth began to shake again, I was trying to stay out of the way f falling debris since I was in a very rocky area. Though much to my attempts, I found the ground cracking beneath me. Oh, no.
I remember letting out a short scream before tumbling into complete and total darkness. However it didn't last long. The place I had fell into quickly began to light up and sparkle. Standing up, my eyes grew wide and my jaw agape as I slowly took in my surroundings. I've never seen a place like this before. It was like the kindergartens but not exactly. Yet it held all of these gems and though there were not bubbled, they appeared inactive, regardless of being in perfect condition. They were imbedded into the Earth. For some reason, seeing this made me feel uneasy. I had to find a way out of here and report this.
Looking up to the gaping hole above me, escape would prove difficult. I really did wish that I still had my enhancers. I let out a sigh and was surprised when I heard someone else sigh behind me, seemingly to imitate me. I quickly turned around and saw it was a human or at least I thought it was a human until I saw that it had a gem imbedded into right into it's neck. A quick glance and I could tell there was something amiss about this gem. Something that even I didn't understand. It's sudden appearance alarmed me and I found myself screaming while running in circles.
I didn't know where I was going at first but I ended up running into a wall that had been fairly weal and made out of wood. Sunlight flooded into the strange, cave like place as I ran to alarm the others.
Time skip ( The Temple)
Steven's P.O.V.
I was standing outside, drinking a cool glass of milk when I saw Peridot running towards the temple. She was screaming, it echoed all the way to me as I spat out the milk I was drinking.
Steven: Peridot, what's wrong?
I asked worriedly.
Peridot: It's a...gah...mah..something...
She stumbled over her words, too bewildered to speak clearly as I tried calming her done.
Her commotion caught the attention of the other gems.
Ametheyst: What's with all the racket? Oh hey peri.
Steven: You guys there's something wrong with Peridot?
Garnet: Peridot, calm down and tell us what's the matter.
Peridot was holding in her words and suddenly blurted them out.
Peridot: I THINK I FOUND SOEMTHING THAT THE DIAMONDS WE'RE PROBABLY KEEPING FROM US!
She blurted out.
Pearl: YOU FOUND WHAT?!
Garnet: How can this be, it doesn't make any sense.
Amethyst: Are you sure it's not just some older kindergarten you saw and thought it was something else?
Peridot: If that's the case, the gems are coming out of the ground. I saw one.
Steven: Really? We have to help her. She can be on our side. This is our chance to make sure this gem isn't under the wrong influence.
Pearl: Steven, it could be dangerous. This gem could be already loyal to their creators. If anything we have to be careful.
Steven: But Pearl, you know how I feel when it comes to other gems. This is important to me.
I pleaded.
Garnet: We can't just let her run around regardless. We'll know what to do when we find her. However, don't get your hopes up Steven. We may have to bubble her, not all gems can be like Peridot and Lapis.
Amethyst: It's sort of weird that the diamonds would be making gems this late into their plans. I wonder what they need them for?
Pearl: That's a really good question but we won't find out standing here. We have to go now. Lead the way Peridot.
Peridot: Leave it to me.
We were all setting out and it was clear that Peridot was leading us somewhere we had never been before. I hadn't told the gems about Peridot sudden urge to do something like this on her own but they'd start asking question on how she came across something like this so they would find out sooner or later. I'm just glad Peridot is ok and told us about something as important as this.
In the meantime, Peridot had brought us to a desert looking area. It looked like it was dead and had been cut off from civilization for thousands of years.
Pearl: What is this place.....?
I gasped.
Steven: It's......a gem mine.
Pearl: A what?
Steven: My dad told me about this a long time ago. Gems used to be mined from places like this and they weren't alive I guess.
Pearl: You humans used to mine us? That's obviously some made up story.
Amethyst: What are you talking about Steven? Mine us for what?
Steven: For jewelry and other things.
Peridot: That's is illogical, we are not accessories. I haven't heard of anything like this before.
In fact, now that I think about it. This whole thing seemed weird, like it was erased from history. How were gems mined when they were sentient life forms? They wouldn't just let that happen as people used them and cut them for different uses. None of this made any sense, it felt like a fictional story especially if we didn't know anything about this and it only further raised questions.....
