8. Smarts For The Win
Guess who's back, back, back, back again......
Hello! Mickey's class is in session once more. And yes, today we are going to put our thinking caps on because smart is our topic today.
*Cracks knuckles* Let's go!
You see, we all are smart in our own way, and in different topics (Math, history, science, lying XD), so people who say "I'm not smart." (AKA: Me) Then you're wrong. (Yeah I'm wrong... I know.... hard to believe... I'm trying...)
"Yeah, sorry to tell you, but you have a rare case of smarts! Yes, yes, you only have a few years left, I'm so sorry." *insert Doctor's voice*
Now, to give us an example, I'm gonna tell a story!
This Storytime is brought to you by Mickey's very "exciting" life! Meaning? This is a true story... okay?!
In high school, there was an academic club called Cambridge. To get in, you have to apply for it and hope you're smart enough. It's for those kids who want to go to a top-notch college (Harvard, Yale, etc) and usually, their passions were science, politics, or math. So of course, these kids take the hardest classes and are supposed to be really smart people. Well, let's just say most of these kids have a bigger ego than they do a heart, and are usually the bragging type. The many I encountered were snotty, believed they were better than others and were not very kind. They loved to talk about only themselves and had zero consideration for other people's passions. They believed there were superior.
I was not part of this club because it had no benefit to me. I was and still am a creative person, so naturally, this program was not for me. Some clubs I was in (to get involved and be noticed for college) had all (or mostly all) Cambridge kids in them, and we didn't bond very well. Not because of anything bad, we just didn't have anything in common. I did Chorus, they did General Papers. I was in the musical, they were in Teen Court. I was in a different kind of field and had very opposite goals, and they were not very supportive of them. Different passions, that's all.
Yet, some felt the need to treat me differently and say I'll never make it in life because of what I want. My dreams to them were seen and little. They were not appreciative of what I did, and took it as a complete joke! They thought I was not smart.
Ha, okay, so let me see you do a triple time step! Can you cry on cue?! What are Uta Hagen's Nine Questions for the actor? You wanna tell me what key signature we're in?! Oh... You don't know? Yeah, I didn't think so!
What I'm trying to explain with my little rant is that they're wrong. I'm smart in my own way (I complimented myself... wow.. don't get used to it.) and you are too. If you have/ still do encounter these types of people like I just explained, (or any other type that you want to share) there are things you should take into consideration (this also goes for someone who has a goal in mind.)
Not trying or putting an effort in your work, being lazy, procrastinating, slacking, mopping, and thinking you'll never make it in life won't help you achieve anything, and just prove these people right. Don't do that to yourself!
Adding to that, some encounters I've had are the "I'm beautiful, so I'll make it in the future" kind of people. News flash: every job has certain criteria that the person has to have in order to get the job. Hand-outs, looks, and being the teacher's pet only get you so far. Being smart and hard-working is what gets you places. Your surroundings, work ethic, and genetic makeup also contribute to success. But some people are just bullies, ugh!
Just because you're smart in something different doesn't mean people have the right to treat you badly. In fact, that should be noticed as a great thing! This means EVERYONE should be noticed because EVERYONE is smart in their own special way! You just need to find what you're good at! Go exploring, and find hobbies and passions you love. Then you'll be able to find out what you're smart at!
Don't change your perspective because people bring you down, and don't think you're lesser because you like painting and not organic chemistry. No one said life was easy, and not everyone is going to support what you want in life, but you need to find the will to believe in yourself, and take that leap of faith.
Do you love to write? Then be a writer!
Do you want to dance? Then dance!
Do you want to be a doctor, lawyer, scientist, teacher, or game maker? Then do it! The only thing in your way is yourself if you don't do what you need to do to get where you need to go.
Will it be a piece of cake...?
NO! Not even close. Will it be worth it? More than you can imagine!
With all this in mind, it's certainly NOT okay to bash others for what they want to do in their life! That's probably one of the worst things you could ever do to someone; Saying "you won't make it" or "that's stupid" is demeaning. Even saying that they aren't smart because of the profession they want to be in (or saying they aren't smart enough to BE in that profession is just downright awful, and shows what kind of person you are.) You have zero right to be in anyone's business, and don't have the power to make choices for other people. We need all different kinds of smart and talented people in the world, so let's treat everyone right!
If you have positivity, work ethic, a great mindset, and determination, you can do anything.
Show those haters up. You can make it with the smarts you were born with. Use it, accept it, understand it, and achieve what you want. Only you have the power to make your goals a reality, so don't ruin it by listening to people who say all these rude, and negative things to you. They just don't understand and don't have the same mind as you do. You're different, and they can't take it. They want to see you fail. But guess what, you won't. I know you won't :)
You have your smart brain to pull through, all you have to do is believe, and the possibilities are endless.....
So this was a little different. Sounded more like a speech about following your dreams, but I'm sure you get my point LOL. Have an idea/topic you want me to discuss? Got some questions? Well, slap that comment section up with all your thoughts, and I'll gladly read them. :)
You all are literally awesome, I hope you know that.
Now, I'm late for a date... with my bed and pillows! XD
Mickey's outta here...
