Part 59 - Confrontation
Priya told Ram everything that happened in the past. She told him how difficult it was for her to take that decision to walk out of his life as she no longer could bear the pain to be taken for granted.
Ram gaped at her blankly after listening to her explanation.
Priya stood there quietly wiping the tears from the corner of her eyes. The trauma and depression she had at that point of time started to hover in her mind again. Now that she has made herself stronger than before, she composed herself eventually.
Ram exhaled sharply and looked at her, taking a couple of strides towards her.
Priya jumped in her skin when his hot breath fell on her face.
"So, you left me just because you thought I took you for granted? Just because of that pathetic misunderstanding? Really, Priya?" asked Ram with teary eyes, expressing both anger and misery. Nothing could explain the sadness that Ram felt after discovering the truth.
"You heard my phone conversation with Vikram, you happen to see the agreement papers and I said some mean things to you that day and you left!!! I agree that I shouldn't have behaved with you in that manner but there is a proper explanation for that. Natasha was trying to commit suicide that time and I was freakingly stressed out. I shouldn't have said those harsh words to you but I didn't mean them at all. It came out of stress and frustration at that point of time. You shouldn't have come to a conclusion with all these reasons." Ram said with teary eyes.
Pain in his eyes did not go unnoticed by her. She stood there blankly while Ram held her by her arms before continuing.
"Have you ever thought how much pain I have been through since you left? I couldn't handle myself a bit. It seemed like after you left, my world crumbled into bits and pieces. I was devastated and completely broken." Ram said in a deep voice while maintaining eye contact with her.
"You know what, I was coming back to you that day, ready to tell you that we can finally get married. I was excited to tell you that everything was fairly settled. I was about to give you a surprise. I was going to apologize to you for my words and actions. I had so many things that I wanted to share with you. But when I came back, I got the biggest shock of my life. You were nowhere to be seen and you left Pari with a caretaker. You could have at least waited for me to come back home." He said with a croaked voice, remembering the incident.
Priya too couldn't stop herself crying, recollecting the moments when she had to leave Pari.
"Why didn't you wait for me? Why Priya? Things could have been different if at all you had a little more patience." Ram asked.
"Forget about all these things, just tell me one thing, whatever relation we shared was meaningless? Do you think we were just fulfilling our physical needs? Didn't we love each other? Didn't you even think twice before abandoning Pari and me?" Ram asked back-to-back questions.
"It wasn't easy for me to leave you and Pari either." Priya said.
"I was in a dilemma for a long time. I didn't know what I was doing but when I came to know that I was pregnant, I was confused. I was so confused that at a point I thought abortion was an escape route for me." Priya's voice cracked up.
The word 'abortion' triggered Ram. He held her shoulders more harshly.
"How could you ever think of abortion? Aryan and Amaira are the symbol of our love." asked Ram angrily.
Priya couldn't meet his eyes as she doesn't have an answer for his question.
"Even when we met after a long time, you didn't even bother telling me that Aryan and Amaira are my kids." He scoffed.
"Yes, I tried to hide the truth because I thought if you ever come to know about them, you would separate them from me. I was scared of losing them." Priya reasoned.
"How could you even think that, Priya?" asked Ram with a frown. "I never wanted to separate you from Peehu then why would you think I would separate you from the twins?"
Priya looked elsewhere but his eyes.
"Answer me, Priya." Ram asked, holding her arms and making her look into his eyes.
"Ram, please leave me." Priya struggled to come out of his grip.
He got pissed off with her struggling to get out of his hands.
"I am not leaving you until I get answers for my questions today." Ram said, in a raging tone while squeezing her arms.
Priya shook her head sideways in disbelief and pushed him away with all her strength.
"What answers are you looking for, haa?" Priya's face turned red with anger.
"What do you want to hear?" Priya added.
"You wanted to know how miserable I felt when you kept ignoring me all the time?"
"You wanted to know how I felt as a piece of shit in your life?"
"You wanted to know how I survived without Pari?"
"You wanted to know why I didn't die till now?" Priya couldn't continue further as Ram shrieked in a loud voice. "Priyaaaa!!!" Ram pressed his palms on her shoulder to stop her saying further. "Please stop."
"Why should I stop now?" Priya said, shrugging off his hands from her shoulders.
"It's not easy for me to leave Pari like that and go." Tears seemed to fall freely from her eyes when she recollected those moments.
"Then why did you leave? You could have waited for me and held back for just a few more hours." Ram said.
"What could have possibly happened even if I stayed some more time? How does that make any difference? I didn't make that hard decision over the night. I endured a lot of things for quite some time before I decided to leave." Priya snapped at him.
"I could have apologized for my behavior. I could have explained to you why I was behaving that way. I was very much in distress about Natasha that I didn't realize my behavior towards you. I know it must have hurt you a lot but I was very much tensed about Natasha and on top of it I came to know about Pari's ill health which added fuel to my ongoing stress levels that time. I bursted on you, I vented out all my frustration and anger with you. I know I was wrong but you were wrong too." Ram's eyes were red and moistened.
Ram gulped a lump down his throat.
Priya smirked at him, "You always have a thousand reasons to defend yourself."
Ram closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh.
"How could you even leave Peehu our Pari like that? How do you defend yourself for your actions?" Ram asked.
"I am not defending myself. Think about all the things that have happened to me, I am the one who is always at the losing end." Priya's voice cracked up while saying this. Tears threatened to fall from her eyes.
"It wasn't easy for me to raise both kids being a single mother. I had to face a lot of criticism from society. I had to deal with a lot of disturbing words from the people around me. I know a lot of people are ill-mouthing about me behind my back. They keep passing judgements about my character." Priya's nose flared in anguish.
"I am the one who is away from my parents and every near and dear. I couldn't even go back to my parents because I was pregnant again. They would ask me to abort the child before stepping inside their house, which I couldn't do." Priya wiped away her tears.
"You didn't even tell me that you were pregnant!" Ram scoffed.
"I wanted to tell you first but you never cared to pay attention to me." Priya said.
"For you, all that matters is you, your sister & your emotions. Where did I stand in your life? I felt so worthless around you." Priya told him.
Ram stood there helplessly, looking at her blankly.
"It's not like what you are thinking, Priya." Ram tried explaining to her.
"Then tell me what it is like." Priya asked him, crossing her hands below her chest.
"You were not ready to marry me, Ram. Now you say that, you couldn't say yes to marriage due to Natasha. Okay, let me consider this as a valid reason." Priya looked at him sharply before saying, "Do you want to say that you took permission from your little sister to force me for surrogacy?"
"Do you want me to say that you took permission from your sister to fall in love with me?"
"Do you want to say that you took permission from your little sister before you made love to me." Priya vented out her anger.
"Priyaaaa, stop!!!" Ram shrieked his lungs out.
Priya exhaled deeply.
"Anyway, it doesn't matter anymore. We are done! We are no longer bound to each other. Hope our paths will never cross again and we don't have to speak about our past anytime. Good luck!" Priya turned to leave from there.
"What are you saying?" Ram was quick enough to hold her wrist tightly, not letting her go easily.
"Leave my hand, Ram." Priya wriggled to withdraw her wrist from his tight hold.
"How could you just walk away? We are not done yet. We are still bound to each other. We love each other and we are the parents to our kids, don't forget that reality." Ram said.
"We loved each other but not anymore. Yes, you are right, we are the parents to our kids. Only parents to the kids, I no longer share any other relationship with you." Priya said.
Ram loosened the grip on her wrist and looked at her with a disappointed look. She withdrew her hand from his grip.
Ram dropped himself on the bed, covering his face in his palms. He didn't know how to react anymore. He went blank when Priya withdrew his hand and left from his room.
Wiping away her tears, Priya came out of Ram's room before walking downstairs.
Natasha and Krishna were standing clueless while looking at Priya. Priya didn't meet her eyes with them. She was not in a state to give anybody any further explanations.
Rajat stood up from his seat seeing Priya coming towards him. Aryan and Amaira were looking blankly at their mother.
"Priya? Are you okay?" asked Rajat, looking at Priya's pale face.
Priya took Aryan's hand while Rajat held Amaira's hand. "Let's go from here." This was all Priya said.
Rajat nodded and didn't ask any further questions. They headed outside while Natasha and Krishna didn't dare to speak anything, understanding the gravity of the situation.
