#8 Bacca and Benja

(Jerome's POV)

Mitch and I stay crammed in the cabnit, our breath making the small area really stuffy. I try to stay quiet, but my breathing ends up turning into a pant. Mitch clamps his hands over my mouth when footsteps enter the room. I see Mitch close one eye as I use my hearing to track the person through the room. They walk around for a few minutes, before eventually leaving the room.

The person is almost gone when Mitch sneezes. We both freeze. The footsteps have stopped. Then, they slowly come closer again. I tense my muscles as the human gets even closer. As soon as the cupboard door opens, I launch myself at are attacker's face. He shrieks as my nail-like claws dig into his face.

I see Mitch shoot out of the cupboard in the corner of my eye. Is he closing his eyes!? I see his hand curl around an invisible object, until it suddenly isn't invisible! A light blue-glowing sword appears in Mitch's hands as he swings it at our attacker's feet. It cuts deep, making the man cry out and fall to the ground as I jump clear of his face. I grab Mitch's arm and drag him with me as we bolt for the door. I get out the door before my back claws skid on the smooth tile. I slip and slide several feet before hitting the wall. I had let go of Mitch when I slipped, and he now has his eyes open....... but he's barfing on the floor.

Before I can get to my feet, a group of people run down the hall and throw a net on me. I hiss and pull at the net as they pin Mitch to the ground and tie his hands and feet. He can't protect himself! I need to get out! I manage to tear a bit of the net in my rage, and launch myself at the closet man. My claws sink into his back as he yells and shrieks out. Another human quickly grabs me from behinds and pulls me. The first man's flesh is torn out on my claws before I lose my gib. Blood sprays everywhere as I'm thrown against the wall. I'm momentarily stunned and dazed, giving them a chance to stick a dart into my side.

I try to get back up and fight, but whatever was in the dart makes my dizzy and groggy. I fall back onto my side, aware, but unable to move. I'm just too tired. The people re-net me and carry me and Mitch down the hallways. Mitch seems a to be getting better, but the ropes keep him from doing much. We suddenly stop moving, and a door is thrown open. We"re tossed into a stone room, with only the door and vent on the ceiling.

I land in the middle of the room as Mitch hits the wall. The door is slammed shut as he struggles to sit up. "Ugh.... you ok Jerome?", Mitch moans, "I think I'm gonna pass out". I want to reply, but I still can't move. I look at him with my eyes, and flick them to the spot close to me. Mitch seems confused, but comes over anyway. I quickly try to shake off whatever was in the dart, and freaking move. My shear determination seems to work, and I manage to push myself up. "Can you get me out of this net? They stuck a dart in me, and I can't move much", I say slowly while slurring a few of my words.

Mitch gives a quick laugh at my words and pulls the net off of me. The dart seems to be getting less effective by the second, and I quickly push it aside to ask, "So what happed when you barfed earlier? And your sword was really cool!". "Oh, umm..... I think the people here gave me video game powers? It makes everything look really cool when I close my eyes. It makes me really tired and sick, though", Mitch explains. "And they gave me powers that lets me understand human speak, and I think super strength", I add.

"Do you think anyone else is here? They could have given more people powers! Maybe we could leave this place with them? My Mom and Dad are probably worried about me", Mitch says. I start to sniffle and have to wipe my eyes. "T-They killed my p-parents", I cry. Mitch seems unsure of what to do, until he leans over and hugs me. "Don't worry Jerome, you can stay with me. I won't let you be alone", He conforms me. "Th-Thanks Biggums", I say while quickly wiping away the last of my tears. "What does Biggums mean?", Mitch asks me. "It means best friend, but even more then that. Like a friend for life. I'm sorry I called you that, usually baccas have to be friends for years before they call each other Biggums. It's an insult to call someone Biggums without their consent, I'm sorry", I explain while guilt rises up my stomach. (Like parapati for shadow hunters)

"It's ok! I've never had a best friend before. My parents say everyone in my village is a bad influence. And I'd love to be your Biggums!", Mitch says while hugging me tighter. I hug him back while thanking the world for meeting a human that's so kind. I always thought humans were all heartless monsters, but looks like I was wrong.
