#4 Mitch

(Unknown POV)

The burning pain floods back into my arms as I slowly wake up. How long was I out? I groan in pain and open my eyes to see pitch black. So dark...... are my eyes even open? I whimper in fear and pain as my arms give another throb of pain. I remember people cutting me open....... so much blood, my blood. My eyes still sting from where needles went into them. I must've passed out from all the pain. I achingly move my hand to feel the twin bandages on my arms. What did they do to me? Where are Mommy and Daddy? Aren't they coming to find me? I wish that they didn't leave me with that babysitter.

I squint in the darkness, but still can't see anything. I stand up and feel my way along the wall, but it seems to never end. I slump in defeat and close my eyes to think. My eyes snap back open after seeing a neon green light. I look around, but don't see it. I slowly close one of my eyes, to see the light on that side of my vision. I close both eyes and see it fully. A neon green outlines the room, showing the rest in black. It looks just like a video game! I look down to see myself outlined in a bright red. This is awesome! I look down at my feet to see that I'm standing on some kind of treadmill. No wonder I couldn't find the corner of the room.

I quickly step off and look around the room once again. A locked door is the only other feature of the room besides a treadmill. Is it a prison cell? Why is there a treadmill? I gaze at the wall in front of me, and jump backwards when features from the room on the other side start to fade in. I can see that there is a cage with something inside. It's outlined in a glowing brown, like my red. Someone must be trapped!

I run over to the wall and look around for some way to break it. As soon as I think the word break, a glowing orange hammer appears. It floats a few inches off the ground and has a pixel look. This really is a video game! I reach out for the hammer, and to my surprise, I'm able to pick it up and swing it at the wall. Little cubes break off and create a hole in the wall. The cubes blink before disappearing. Yep, video game.

I step into the room and open up my eyes. A wave of exhaustion and dizziness immediately slams into me. I fall to the floor and swallow back vomit. The nausea goes away after a few seconds, but the exhaustion stays. I get back up while fighting off a yawn. This must be the price for my new powers. Still really cool!

I gaze around and spot a table in the middle of the room. There's nothing on it except for a few empty syringes. A counter is against the wall, with cupboards above it. A steal cage is locked on top of the counters. That must be where the person is. I walk over and manage to pull myself up, despite the sleepy-ness clinging to my limbs. I sit on the counter and examine the creature in the cage. It has lots of brown fur and little claws on its paws. They're a smaller then me, too. I wonder what it is. No matter what, I have to help it out.

I try to shake the bars of the cage, bur they hold firm. I don't have the key for the lock. I could try and use my video game powers, but it might make me barf. Just as I'm about to try, I hear a groan from the cage. The furry creature moves and sits up with its back to me. Just as I'm about to announce my presence, it's nose twitches and he whirls around to face me. "W-Who are you?", he whimpers. "My name's Mitch! I saw you over here and came to get you out", I explain. "You can understand me? How can I understand you? Baccas and humans speak different languages", he asks. "I don't know. You're speaking perfect English to me. What's your name, by the way". "I'm Jerome. Thank you for coming to get me out, but how do I get out?". "I haven't figured that out, yet".

Jerome huffs and gets up to come to the bars. "Maybe if we both pull then maybe the bar will snap?", he suggests. He reaches out a hand to grasp a bar, but before I can grab hold, Jerome leans forward and the bar instantly bends out. "Oh cool! How did you do that!?", I exclaim. "I don't know.....", he trails off before grabbing another bar. This one also easily bends. I try and bend one, but it still doesn't move. Jerome shoves another one to the side and wiggles out
between the bars. He falls into heap at my feet. I grab his paw and help him get back up to his feet. "So, what n-", I start, but am cut off by a shrieking siren. It blasts through my ears, and Jerome covers his ears in pain. Running steps sound from the hallway, and I quickly grab Jerome and hide in a cupboard. It's a tight fit with both of us, but hopefully we won't be found.
