Chapter 16
Wedding day:
Sarah: It's time to leave.
Jesse: I'm ready (fixing tie).
They go downstairs.
Joe: You may only go to the wedding and back. I will be alerted if you try to remove the tracker or if you are no longer within the boundaries I've set. Is that clear?
Jesse: Crystal.
Joe: Good. Roy is outside waiting for your mom. Mike and I are leaving to make sure everything is as should be before the wedding starts.
Mike & Joe leave. Roy walks in.
Roy: I won, kid.
Jesse: You'll never win as long as I'm around.
Helen comes down.
Helen: Are you ready?
Roy: Always have been.
Helen: Sarah! Al! Let's go!
Jesse: I have to do something first. I'll have the driver drop me off.
Helen: Don't be late!
They all leave in a limo. There are guards inside the limo and in cars surrounding the limo.
After a while:
Jesse receives a text. It's from Helen.
Helen: Buy some more flowers on your way.
Jesse: Better get going.
Jesse leaves with the driver.
Jesse: Drop me off at the flower shop.
Driver: Yes, sir.
Jesse: You don't need to stick around. I'm meeting someone there. We'll leave together.
Driver: Are you sure?
Jesse: Yeah, I'm sure.
At the flower shop:
The driver leaves. Jesse stands in front of the shop. A black car pulls up in front of the shop. A man walks out of the car and approaches Jesse.
Jesse: Stay back! (pulls out gun)
Man: Easy, kid. I just wanna get some flowers. Put that thing away and help me pick some out.
Jesse: No, I know what you're here for. I know who sent you. If you make a single move, I'll shoot you.
Man: You're late for the wedding. How about we give you a ride (reaching for gun).
Jesse shoots the man in the chest. The driver opens his door with a gun in his hand. Jesse shoots his hand causing the driver to drop the gun. Then, he gets back into the car, closes the door, and makes a phone call. Jesse shoots two of the car's tires and runs. Another black car is speeding down the street after Jesse. The shop owner calls the police. He described Jesse and the two men and explained what he saw.
Meanwhile:
Helen: Jesse's not picking up his phone.
Roy: I'm sure he's fine. He should be on his way right now.
Jesse runs into the mall in hopes of losing the men after him in the crowd. The men enter the mall after Jesse. Jesse takes the escalator.
Man #1: We can't do anything with all these people around.
Man #2: We'll chase him out then grab him when nobody's looking.
Man #3: How are you gonna do that? He's not a little kid. He has a gun, too.
Man #2: I'll shoot him then you two grab him. He can't fight back after that.
Man #1: Boss said not to touch him, only to take him to where boss said so and he'll deal with him later.
Man #2: If I need to shoot him, I'll do it. I'll explain it to the boss. It's better than not coming back with Jesse.
Man #3: How are we gonna find him now?
Man #2: Split up. When one of us finds him, we'll let the rest know. We need to make sure we chase him out the back. It leads to an alley. That way we can grab him.
Man #1: I saw him run into that store over there.
Man #3: Go after him. I'll make sure you don't lose him if he gets out from the front.
Man #2: I'll take the back.
The first man enters into the store Jesse ran into. It's a hardware store. The man looks around for Jesse and believes that Jesse is in the home & garden area. The man locks the door that separates the home & garden area from the rest of the store to try and get Jesse to run out in a certain direction. As the man is walking down an isle, Jesse surprises him with a shovel to the face. Then, he hits the man with his gun on the back of his head knocking the man out.
Jesse: One down, two to go.
Jesse unlocks the door and walks back into the store.
Meanwhile:
Helen & Roy are taking pictures.
Mike: C'mon what's up with that face? It's Helen's wedding. I always knew you liked her. That could've been you.
Joe: You knew? Wait, never mind.
Mike: What?
Joe: I just got an alert that Jesse is out of boundaries.
Mike: This kid can't stay out of trouble even on a day like this?
Joe: I gotta go see what's going on. Don't tell anyone where I went. Helen doesn't need to be stressed on her wedding day. Just make up anything.
Mike: Yeah, yeah. I know. I've done it a thousand times.
Joe leaves.
Jesse knows another one is hiding outside the store. Jesse sneaks up to the man and sprays his face with a bug spray he just bought causing the man's eyes to burn and temporarily blinded. By the time the man opens his eyes and can see again, Jesse has disappeared. The man gets near the rail and takes a look at the first floor...no sign of Jesse. The man turns around and Jesse comes out of nowhere flipping the man over the rail causing him to fall. The man dies on impact.
Jesse: Another one gone.
Jesse looks down and sees a cop next to the man. The cop looks up and sees Jesse.
Cop: Stop right there! (going up escalator).
Jesse is now wanted by the police. He has killed two men within the same hour, including one with a gun which he should not be carrying due to parole, and has left his permitted boundaries. Jesse cannot stop and explain his situation now, he will be arrested for violating parole. Jesse runs into a toy store and takes the escalator within the toy store to the first floor. Jesse decides to take the back door knowing backup is on the way. Jesse opens the back door then closes it behind him, but the door doesn't shut all the way.
Man: Come here! (grabbing Jesse)
Jesse and the man struggle. He knocks out the gun from the man's hand. As the man tries to pick up the gun, Jesse knees him in the face then runs. As he is running, he notices a little boy in the alley. The boy went through the back door that Jesse accidentally left partially open. Jesse grabs the boy right in time before the man shoots and they hide behind a dumpster (Jesse's arm on the boy's chest).
Jesse: It's gonna be ok.
Jesse shoots at the man's shoulder. Then, he takes the boy into another alley. The boy starts to cry. Jesse covers the boy's mouth.
Jesse: We need to stay quiet (whispering). It's gonna be over soon (wiping the boy's tears).
Jesse carefully looks to see where the man is. The man is looking around. Jesse hides back and thinks about what he should do. Then, he hears a familiar voice.
Joe: Put your weapon down!
The man shoots at the cops then runs through another alley.
Joe: Jesse! We know you're there. We know that boy is with you. Just let us know if he's ok.
Jesse: The boy is fine.
Joe: It is not in your best interest to turn this into a hostage situation.
Jesse: Shit! You gotta be kidding me, Joe. Listen, this is not a hostage situation. I will release the boy safely.
Joe: Release the boy and come out with your hands up! You have nowhere to go. The building is surrounded. They will shoot you at first sight. You killed two men.
Jesse: It was in self-defense.
Joe: You shouldn't be carrying a gun.
Jesse: I could've been dead right now if I wasn't carrying this gun.
Joe: Turn yourself in and you will have a fair trial to defend your situation.
Jesse: After spending some time in jail?!
Joe: Yes, you will be in jail. But for breaking your parole. The necessity of more jail time will be discussed in court.
Jesse: You're saying I could spend more time in jail for defending myself?
Joe: Look at this situation, kid. It's more than just self-defense. You have a hostage!
Jesse: He's not a hostage! I was protecting him from the shooting.
Joe: Then do what's right and release him. Turn yourself in now. I know you won't hurt that boy. I know those guys were after you. I will make sure you will not spend an extra minute in jail for killing those two men in self-defense. Just come out before someone gets hurt. The longer it takes, the worse it looks for you.
Jesse looks up and sees unfinished construction work on the side of a building.
Jesse: Cover your ears and stay right here until police come, ok? (to boy)
Boy: OK (covers ears)
Jesse shoots at the unfinished construction work causing steel rods and hot water pipes to fall. Joe and the other officers scatter as the rods and pipes destroy the squad cars. Jesse escapes.
After a while:
Jesse arrives at the company. Four men arrive after Jesse.
Jesse: You are dismissed for the day. These men will take your place until the wedding is over.
Security guards: Yes, sir.
The security guards leave. Jesse disarms all security in the building. Jesse and the four men enter. He goes directly to the room that contains the safe, unlocks the safe, and empties all the money into large black bags. Jesse hands the black bags to one of the men. Then, they take the elevator. Jesse removes the button pad and a hidden button appears. Jesse presses the button and a secret door opens leading to a hallway where there are two armed men. They are easily taken out by Jesse's men. Down the hall is another elevator. This elevator can only go down and has only one button. Jesse presses that button and they're all taken down to a secret area under the company. They are met with two other armed men who are also taken out by Jesse's men.
Jesse: Check the rest of the area.
The men clear the area.
Jesse: Anyone left?
Charlie: We have him in the next room.
Jesse: Good.
Jesse enters the room next door.
Jesse: I'll take it from here. Start the process.
The men leave the room.
Jesse: I knew something wasn't right from the beginning, but I didn't know you would be involved.

Marshall: How did you find me?
Jesse: It started with this (holding flash drive). You forgot the possibility of renovation. Then I began looking into what was in that flash drive. I couldn't believe what I was reading, but at the same time I always knew in my heart your side of the story wasn't true. Then, one thing lead to another....the ring, the pictures, the key....the package. My world was falling apart. I lost some of the most important people to me, and I was afraid to lose the rest. After I met Charlie....I was able to open that package and it all became clear. We made a deal. As soon as Charlie was released, he went to Roy's company. Roy's absence came into benefit. Charlie and his men used an EMP to shut off all the power in his building. Then, his company called for an electrician. Charlie and his men had already tapped into their phone system. Since they've never seen Charlie before and had no reason to doubt his presence as an electrician, all Charlie had to do was pass their regular security check. After that, Charlie knew exactly where to look for the key without worrying about any cameras watching. When Charlie gave his men the signal, they returned the power back to the building. He was in then out just like that. I finally got the key and opened that package. That package had everything I needed to know all along. It had where I could find you because you used to bring mom here and she told me how to get here in that package. You killed her, but you couldn't kill all your past. Your past has caught up to you because the truth will always rise. You killed her because you were afraid she would reveal your hiding spot. But you didn't know she had a backup plan.
Marshall: Elizabeth was smart.....I see her in you.
Jesse: Why did you have to hide all this time? Why did you fake your death and leave us?
Marshall: Because I owed a lot of money to someone.
Jesse: We have money.
Marshall: I owed money that we didn't have.....and some other things, too. The only way out was to fake me my death.
Jesse: You killed mom, you killed Frank, you killed David....and you almost killed me because you had no way out?!
Marshall: I had to do something before I could get exposed.
Jesse: And what were you gonna do after getting rid of me? Hide forever?
Marshall: That's where Roy is supposed to come in. Roy is supposed to marry Helen....
Jesse: And then we were supposed to die somehow in a mysterious accident? So he could have the company and everything left? Then split it with you....so you could escape this hideout and live your life to the fullest elsewhere....no worries about owing anyone anything.
Marshall: You always caught on things quickly.
Jesse: How could you get rid of your own flesh and blood just like that?
Marshall: I'm sorry, son. I shouldn't have done things that way. I should've done it differently (pulls a gun from under desk).
Jesse shoots Marshall in the chest. Marshall drops his gun.
Jesse: This one's for mom (shoots at other side of chest). This one's for David (shoots abdomen). And this one's for everything you made us go through (shoots head).
Charlie: The explosives are all set. We have five minutes.
Jesse: Take your guys and leave. I'll be right out.
Charlie and his men leave to the main building. Jesse puts down the gun and wipes his tears. He walks towards Marshall's body and shakes his head. Jesse takes off his ring. A stream of memories with his father suddenly hit Jesse.
Jesse: Why? (crying)
Jesse returns the ring and bangs his fist on the desk in anger.
Roy: You just made things a lot easier (shoots Jesse in the chest).
Jesse tries to grab his gun, but Roy kicks it away.
Roy: I've been waiting for this for a long time (pointing gun at Jesse).
Joe: Drop it! And put your hands up.
Roy drops the gun and raises his arms.
Joe: Turn around!
Roy: The real party is in here.
Joe: I said turn around!
Roy: You should've stayed out of this, Joe (reaches for another gun).
Joe shoots Roy. The bullet rips through the aorta. Roy drops to the ground and blood gushes out of his mouth. Roy dies shortly after. Joe hurries to Jesse.
Joe: Let's get you outa here.
Jesse: No. I did it on my own. There was no need for any of your plans....there was no need for Bronson.
Joe: It's not time for your games.
Jesse: I'm not gonna spend the rest of my life in prison. I'd rather die here....after taking justice for all my loved ones.
Joe: C'mon, Jesse. You won't have to spend all your life in prison. We can work something out.
Jesse: Its first degree murder. Nothing can be worked out. You gotta go now, Joe or you won't make it either.....You know.....you were always so close. Take care of my family, Joe.
Joe: I'm sorry I didn't get to know you well enough (crying).
Joe hurries out of the building. A minute later, the entire building explodes and bursts into flames.
