Chapter 11

At camp:

It's lunch time.

Brandon: Hey, Jesse.

Jesse doesn't pay attention.

Brandon: Jesse....Jesse!

Jesse: Huh? Sorry.

Brandon: What are you doing?

Jesse: Nothing. I just have to make an important call real quick.

Jesse leaves to another part of the park, but doesn't really need to make a call. Jesse is searching for the missing number to complete the address. The number should be between 50-59. He looks up the street on a virtual map program and can see the street view. Jesse has ten different houses to find out which one Elizabeth is in. He remembers from the two photos with the number and street name that the plaque is on the left side of the house. Jesse checks all the houses on that street and finds out that four of them have a plaque on the left. Numbers 52, 55, 57, and 59. Jesse needs more information to know exactly which house is the right one. He needs to get home and look at the rest of the photos for more information. Jesse walks to Brandon.

Brandon: Is everything alright?

Jesse: Yeah. Everything is fine. I need to make a quick stop somewhere and will be back soon.

Minutes later:

Jesse stops his car a few streets away just in case Joe decides to stop by. Then, he checks the surveillance to make sure nobody is inside. Jesse didn't remove the flashlight pointing at the camera from yesterday and left his window unlocked, he can climb up to his room without being caught by that camera. Jesse climbs up and unlocks the drawer right away. He looks through the photos one by one and notices that the door is also on the left. That takes out number 57 because the door is on the right. The color of the door is red, which also excludes number 55. The correct house is either 52 or 59. However, it's hard to tell which one it is because they both have the same door color. The photos don't reveal enough of the house to show a certain landscaping or any lawn accessories to tell which one it is. And even if there were, the street view Jesse is looking at might not reflect what is in the photos depending on when they were taken. Jesse needs a way to know which house is the right one. The numbers 5, 2, and 9 showed up again. This means that the right house has something to do with those numbers. Counting steps helped him find the photos, maybe counting houses will help. Jesse counts the number of houses it takes to each of the two houses from the beginning of the street. It takes 15 houses to reach number 52, while it takes 22 houses to reach number 59. Jesse believes it's most likely to be number 59 because of the number 22, a familiar number. He still needs more information to make the final decision on which house it is. Jesse hears a car outside. He waits to see if anyone walks into the house. Jesse sees Joe open the door and walk in. Jesse quietly puts the photos away and locks the drawer. Then, he climbs down, hurries to his car, and drives off to finish camp.

After camp:

Jesse arrives at Joe's house. Mike & Joe are watching tv.

Jesse: Hey.

Joe: Hey. You hungry?

Jesse: Nah, not really.

Jesse's phone rings.

Jesse: Hello.

Sarah & Al: Hi!

Jesse: Hey guys, we missed you at camp. Having a great time?

Al: Yeah. It's awesome.

Sarah: Yep. It would've been funner if you were with us.

Jesse: Sorry guys. I can't leave Nicole with camp. I promised I'd help.

Sarah & Al: Yeah. We know. How are Mike & Joe?

Jesse: Let me put you on speaker (putting on speaker).

Mike: How's your trip?

Sarah: It's so much fun.

Joe: I'm sure you forgot all about us.

Al: No way! As much fun we're having here, we're looking forward to coming back.

Joe: Enjoy your trip!

Sarah: We have to go now. We'll see you guys in a day or two.

Jesse: Have fun!

Mike & Joe: Bye.

Sarah & Al: Bye.

Mike & Joe look at Jesse.

Jesse: What's wrong?

Joe: Actually, Mike and I were hoping you're hungry because we wanted to go eat now.

Jesse: I guess I'll eat. I'll get hungry when I see the food.

Joe: Sounds good. Let's take my car.

They all leave into Joe's car. While Jesse is in the back seat, he receives a text telling him to meet someone in front of the bakery.

Jesse: Can we make a short stop at the bakery?

Joe: Sure. Everything alright?

Jesse: Yeah. I need to meet someone there to discuss something really quick.

Mike & Joe look at each other wondering about what Jesse will be discussing.

At the bakery:

A woman stands in front of the bakery. Jesse steps out of the car and walks to the woman.

Jesse: What's going on, Mrs. Martin?

Mrs. Martin: It's David (crying)....he's really sick. He's in the hospital (showing hospital admission form).

Jesse: What happened?

Mrs. Martin: I don't know. He was fine. He was playing and then he suddenly collapsed. We rushed him in right away last night. His condition is getting worse (crying harder).

Jesse: And Mr. Martin.

Mrs. Martin: He fights with the hospital every hour, but it's no use. They kicked him out for a while until he calmed down.

Jesse: Don't worry Mrs. Martin, we'll solve this. Follow me.

Jesse and Mrs. Martin walk down the street to an ATM machine.

Joe: Where are they going?

Mike: What are they talking about?

Mike & Joe can see them in front of the ATM machine.

Jesse: Here (handing money). These should pay the expenses for his admission.

Mrs. Martin: Thank you so much. You've helped us a lot, we can never thank you enough (putting the money away).

Jesse: It's no problem at all. If you ever need something, call right away. I'll get you whatever you need. If you need anything else for David, you know....in case there's an update on his condition I'll be happy to help right away for treatment, for anything.

Mrs. Martin: Thank you again (hugging Jesse).

Jesse: You're very welcome. Take care....and be careful. Get that money to the hospital right away.

Mrs. Martin: Yes. I will (wiping tears away).

Mrs. Martin continues walking down the street, while Jesse goes back to the car.

Joe: Are we ready to eat?

Jesse: Yeah.

At the restaurant:

Mike: You alright? You haven't even touched your food.

Jesse: I guess I'm not hungry yet.

Mike & Joe look at each other.

Joe: Hey. I know we said we wouldn't ask too many questions, but that amount of money you gave to that woman is something worth asking about.

Jesse looks at Mike & Joe.

Jesse: You guys probably think I was causing more trouble....doing something illegal or whatever.

Joe: Ok then, let's talk about it.

Jesse: There's this family, the Martins. Their only son, David, has this rare medical condition. The doctors don't know what to do and don't know if he'll ever get better. Their medical insurance didn't cover the costs of diagnosing and treating the condition because it's so rare the insurance doesn't cover the costs of research and finding a specialist. The Martins were furious and devastated. David's condition started to get worse and Mr. Martin was under so much stress that he couldn't cope with anything around him anymore. Then just when this family's life couldn't get worse, Mr. Martin looses his job. That's when the family contacted one of the organizations that we fund asking for help and reached out to us. We decided to help this family directly because of their condition and the funds they needed. Since then, we've been giving them all they need to help in David's condition. They've found a specialist, and are working on a treatment that could work for David. They're trying to raise more funds from other organizations to help in research about this rare condition and hopefully find a cure. David has been improving, but was sent to the hospital last night for an unknown cause. That's what the money was for.

Joe: We're sorry to hear that. If there's anything we can do to help, we're ready.

Jesse: The money is not a problem for them anymore. It's just a matter of time.

Later:

Jesse, Mike, and Joe arrive home and walk into the house. A few minutes later, someone knocks on the door. Joe opens, it's Brandon.

Joe: Hey, Brandon.

Brandon: Hey, Joe. Is Jesse home?

Joe: Yeah. We just got back from eating out.

Jesse: Hey, man! What's up?

Brandon: What's up, man? I came to check on you. You seemed busy with something today.

Jesse looks at Joe, then at Brandon.

Jesse: Right. I actually need to show you something upstairs in my room....now.

Brandon: Ok?

They both leave to Jesse's room, while Joe watches them leave (shrugs his shoulders).

Joe: I don't even wanna know.

In Jesse's room:

Jesse closes the door behind them. Brandon sits on Jesse's bed.

Brandon: What's going on? What do you need to show me?

Jesse: Oh. It's nothing. I just said that so Joe won't ask so many questions.

Brandon: Something's up with you. Yesterday you were being chased all over the city. And today you needed to make a phone call, then suddenly left after that. Is everything alright? I'm your buddy. I got your back.

Jesse: Yesterday....was a bet.

Brandon: A bet?

Jesse: If I can make it to the pier without being caught by Joe or his men, they'd leave me alone. And I won.

Brandon: I wonder how.

Jesse: I still owe you for that.

Brandon: And what about today?

Jesse: I was....I was arranging a trip for when Sarah & Al come back. We're all going and you're invited, too.

Brandon: Why didn't you tell me?

Jesse: It's supposed to be a surprise for everyone.

Brandon: Then, consider us even (fist bump).

Jesse: Great!

Brandon stands up and his keys slip out of his pocket.

Jesse: Where'd they go?

Brandon: I think they went under your bed.

Brandon takes a look under Jesse's bed and finds his keys.

Brandon: Found 'em....and this, too.

Jesse: What?

Brandon hands Jesse a phone. It's the phone he found the other day in his dad's office.

Brandon: I didn't know you have another phone.

Jesse: Oh, it's not mine. It must've been there from before. I'll ask Joe about it later.

Jesse puts the phone in his pocket.

Jesse: Let's hang outside.

Brandon: Nah. I know you're tired from yesterday, and I'm sorry for bothering you about all that stuff.

Jesse: No worries. You know I wouldn't keep anything from you.

Brandon: Yeah.

Jesse: Let's head downstairs.

They both leave downstairs.

Mike: Leaving already?

Brandon: Yeah, I'm a bit tired from yesterday as well.

Joe: See ya, then.

Brandon: Later guys.

Jesse: See ya.

Brandon leaves.

Joe: You're not going to bed right now, are you?

Jesse: No. It's too early for bed even though I'm still tired.

Joe: Let's see what's on tv, then.

As Jesse sits on the couch, he feels something in his pocket. He remembers the phone is in his pocket.

Mike: Are you sick? You look a little yellow.

Jesse: I'm not sick.

Mike: You sure?

Jesse needs to see what's on that phone right away.

Jesse: I actually have to use the bathroom.

Jesse runs upstairs to the bathroom, locks the door, and turns on the fan. Then, he takes out the phone. Jesse will flush the toilet every once and a while.

Jesse: I hope you're charged.

He turns on the phone. It's charged, but has a passcode.

Jesse: Come on. We've gotten this far, we can't stop now.

He looks at the phone, four numbers are needed to unlock it.

Jesse: Those numbers haven't failed me yet. They better not start now.

Jesse enter the numbers 9, 2, 2, 5. It doesn't work.

Jesse: Come on, dammit.

Jesse tries the numbers 5, 9, 2, 2. That doesn't work. He has one last try before the phone cannot accept anymore tries for another 24 hours.

Jesse: What could it be? I'm sure it has to do with those number. I have to rearrange those numbers 5, 2, 9, 2. That doesn't make sense 52 and 92 are not related to anything.

Jesse thinks about those numbers even harder.

Jesse: What if those numbers were backwards? 2, 9, 2, 5. That makes it 29 and 25. These numbers seem familiar, but how? Someone's age? That's it. Dad turned 29 a few months after mom was taken away, but she was 27 at the time and not 25. Wait, dad was still 29 when he married Helen, and she was 25.

Jesse enters 2, 9, 2, 5. The phone is unlocked.

Jesse: Finally.

Jesse goes through the phone. There's nothing on that phone except some phone numbers in the recent calls. The numbers are not even in the contacts. One number is an international number that called once.

Jesse: I'll wait a few hours for the time difference in London, then I'll call. What else is on this phone?

Joe: He's taking too long up there. I wonder if he's ok. I'm going to check on him.

Jesse forgot his phone downstairs and so he is not able to check the surveillance. Joe knocks on the door.

Joe: Jesse, are you ok in there?

Jesse: I'm fine. Be right out.

Joe goes downstairs. Jesse follows right after.

Mike: You ok? (laughing)

Jesse: Yeah (blushing).

They continue watching tv.

A few hours later:

Joe: I think that's enough tv for tonight. We all have work tomorrow morning.

Jesse: Yeah, I think it's about time.

Mike: Of course you think it is. You haven't been able to sit still for the last few hours.

Jesse: You know, I've been thinking about what happened today that's all.

Joe: It's not easy.

They each go to their rooms. Jesse closes his door, removes the flashlight, and takes out the phone. It's still too early to call that number. Jesse continues to go through the phone for a few more hours, but there is nothing in there that can help him. Jesse can now try and call that number. He sets the phone on No Caller ID and calls the number.

On the phone: Hello?

Jesse doesn't answer back. He is disappointed to hear a man's voice on the other end. He puts the phone down and turns on his laptop to do more research. He searches the name "Elizabeth Williams", but no helpful or related results show up. There are many "Elizabeth Williams" out there, but none seem to match the one Jesse's looking for. Mr. Williams did a great job at hiding her and anything related to her. Jesse has another idea. He decides to search the address instead of the name. He searches "59 Marshall Road, London" first, and if nothing shows up, he'll try "52 Marshall Road, London" even though he's more sure about the first address. An image shows up with that address in the caption. Jesse clicks on the image to read more. The image leads to a lady's social media account, who is not Elizabeth. The caption reads: "Had a great time with my friend" followed by the location of the event and a tagged user with the username "EJ.59". Jesse clicks on that username to see the profile. The account belongs to someone named Erica Jones. There are a few posts, but none that reveal who the user is. The profile has no birthdate or address, but has a phone number. Jesse searches the web for "Erica Jones", but still doesn't find anything useful. It is now 2:00 am. Jesse decides to call the number he just found, still on No Caller ID.

On the phone: Hello?

Jesse doesn't answer.

On the phone: Hello?

Jesse is in shock to hear Elizabeth's voice on the other end. She hangs up because nobody answers. Jesse doesn't know if he should be nervous or happy. He has just heard his mom's voice after so many years and doesn't want to lose her again. He saves the number on his phone and turns off the other phone until it's needed again. Jesse knows he can't talk on the phone after these years, but needs another way to stay in touch with Elizabeth until he is ready to talk.

Jesse: Erica Jones, huh? She was probably forced to change her name so nobody could find her....or remember her.

He quickly thinks of making an account on that social media using a fake name. He posts a few things that Elizabeth can relate to on his account to make it look realistic and sends a friend request. Now he waits. He leaves his laptop open waiting for a reply. While waiting, he falls asleep. Jesse wakes up on his laptop making a sound an hour later. The friend request has been accepted. Jesse sends a message right away on the chat.

K2_E4: Hi.

EJ.59: Hello. Who is this?

K2_E4: My name is Karyn Edwards.

EJ.59: I can see that from your profile. But, how do you know me?

K2_E4: We seem to share interests in many things and I thought we should become friends.

EJ.59: That sounds nice. How about you tell me more about yourself?

K2_E4: I live in Manchester. I am a school teacher and painting is my hobby.

EJ.59: I love painting as well. It's so peaceful.

K2_E4: I hope we can be very good friends.

EJ.59: I hope so, too.

Their conversation goes on for another hour. Elizabeth is friendly, but careful not to tell too much about herself. It's now 4:00 am and Jesse can finally go to sleep.

At 7:30 am:

Joe walks into Jesse's room.

Joe: Wake up!

Jesse: What? (face planted into pillow)

Joe: What are you still doing in bed? Don't you have camp?

Jesse: Oh, shoot! What time is it? (jumping out of bed)

Joe: It's already 7:30.

Jesse: Ah, I'm late.

Joe: Don't you set an alarm?

Jesse: I must've accidentally turned it off when it rang and fell back asleep. I gotta hurry up. Nicole is going to kill me.

Joe: Well, Mike and I better get going.

Joe leaves the room, while Jesse scrambles to get dressed and leave for camp.

At camp:

Nicole: you're late.

Jesse: I know, but I'm here now. I overslept.

Lunch time:

Jesse is sleeping on a table with his hand under his chin. Brandon comes along and sees this. He has an idea to wake him up. Brandon grabs a box of apple juice and sprays it in Jesse's face.

Jesse: What the....?

Brandon: Looks like you didn't get enough sleep last night.

Jesse: Not really. Hand me a towel.

Brandon: Here. Why not?

Jesse: I don't know. Maybe I miss Sarah & Al.

Brandon: They're coming back soon?

Jesse: Probably tomorrow (yawning).

Brandon: Lunch is almost over. I'm gonna go and you can finish your nap.

Jesse: Yeah. So much for a nap.

Later:

Jesse drives up to the front of the house after camp. Nobody is home. Jesse rushes up to his laptop to see if he has received any messages from Elizabeth. There are none. He checks the time in London. It's 10pm. Jesse knows Elizabeth doesn't sleep that early, so he sends a message and keeps his laptop open in hopes of receiving a reply soon. He starts changing his clothes. Then, his laptop makes a sound. A message from EJ.59.

Jesse hasn't even put a shirt on yet and is already replying back. They barely chat, when Jesse hears a car honk outside. He looks to see Joe's car. He continues what he was doing thinking it's only Mike & Joe, but he thought wrong.

Voice #1: Jesse!

Jesse looks outside to see that the voice is coming from Sarah.

Voice #2: We're back!

And the other voice is coming from Al. Jesse has to end the chat that he barely started. He goes downstairs.

Jesse: Hey guys! Back so soon. I thought you were staying for another day.

Al: We were, but we really missed you guys.

Sarah: Yeah, we we're so excited to be back.

Jesse: Has mom called you guys at all?

Sarah: Yeah, a few times. She said she'll call again later tonight.

Jesse: Are you guys tired or hungry?

Sarah: No. We ate before we came.

Jesse: Then you guys are ready to unpack.

Al: Yeah. We'll unpack and show you all the things we did.

Sarah & Al go upstairs to unpack.

Later:

Someone rings on the door bell. Joe opens the door.

Delivery man: Hello. Are you Joe?

Joe: Yeah.

Delivery man: I have a few packages for you.

Joe: A few?

Delivery man: Here they are.

Joe: Whoa. Thanks.

Mike: What are these?

Joe: I don't know. Some packages.

Mike: These two look like they have something big inside.

Joe: Well, one says it's for Sarah and the other says it's for Al. The smaller one is for Jesse. Who sent them, though?

Jesse: What's this?

Joe: I don't know, but they have your names on them.

Sarah & Al come downstairs.

Mike: Someone sent something for you guys.

Al: What is it?

Sarah: Who sent them?

Joe: Open them and find out.

Sarah & Al excitingly rip open part of their packages.

Al: This is awesome.

Jesse: What's in there?

Al: A new bike! I'm gonna put it together right away.

Jesse: What did you get, Sarah?

Sarah: A new bike, too! I love it! What about you, Jesse? What did you get?

Jesse: Let's see.

Jesse opens up his package, a small box.

Al: Well?

Jesse takes out a pocket knife with his name engraved on it.

Sarah & Al: Whoa.

Jesse's phone rings. He returns the knife into its box.

Jesse: Hello?

It's Helen.

Helen: Hi kids! How's it going?

Jesse puts her on speaker.

Jesse: Everything's great. It's good to have Sarah & Al back.

Sarah: Hi mom!

Al: Hi mom!

Helen: Hi kids! How was your trip?

Sarah: Cool as usual.

Helen: Listen, Roy wants to say something to you kids.

Roy: Hey guys! Glad you had a great trip. Your mom and I will be back soon, too. I wanted to know what you guys think of your gifts.

Al: Those were from you?

Roy: Yeah. Now, I know Mike & Joe are taking good care of you guys and you will never be bored with them, but I thought I should send you guys something to give you a taste of what I think is fun. I want to see if I know you guys well enough. So, how'd I do?

Sarah: They're awesome. We need new bikes anyways. Were getting too big for our old ones.

Roy: Glad you like them. How about you Jesse? How's your gift?

Jesse: Thanks. It's really cool.

Roy: You see I knew....

Jesse: You need to work on getting to know me a little better.

Joe: I think we all do.

Roy: I thought it would come in handy because your mom told me that you like to go climbing with your friends. Oh well, maybe I'll get it right next time. Here's your mom.

Helen: Joe, thank you again for having the kids over. I'll try to get back as soon as I can, hopefully soon.

Joe: Don't worry about it, Helen. They're good kids. They won't cause any trouble, right kids? (looking at Jesse)

Jesse smiles.

Helen: And thank you Mike for helping out, too.

Mike: You're welcome. Your kids are really no trouble at all.

Helen: That's good to hear. Anyways, I gotta go. I'll talk to you guys when I get the chance. I'm going to be busy the next few days. Bye!

All: Bye!

Jesse puts away his phone and takes out the knife. He walks towards Al and cuts open the rest of Al's package.

Al: First use of your new knife.

Jesse: I guess it does come in handy.

Joe: But it's staying in your room, right?

Jesse: We'll see. It could come in handy somewhere else.

Joe: You're a funny guy.

Jesse: I know. Sarah, let me open your box, too.

Jesse opens Sarah's package.

Sarah: Can we put the bikes together right away?

Jesse: Of course we can. Mike & Joe will help, too.

Mike: Sure we will.

Everyone starts building the bikes right away.

Later:

Sarah & Al are enjoying their new bikes with Mike & Joe around. Jesse is tired from putting the bikes together, and not getting enough sleep the past few nights. With Sarah & Al back and everything else that's going on, Jesse doesn't expect to get much sleep.

Jesse: It's going to be a long week.

The rest of the week goes on sleeplessly with camp, late night chatting, and other things.

Day 1: Camp

Campers are practicing hockey.

Nicole: Alright Jesse you're up for the next round (leaving).

Jesse: Hmm, yeah (yawning).

Jesse falls asleep. Nicole comes back.

Nicole: Jesse! Get up for the next round!

Jesse: Oh, yeah. Sorry. I'm up.

Jesse gets up and stands goalie. He's so tired, he forgets to put on his protective mask. The campers take turns scoring goals and are doing great....for now. Jesse lets his guard down for a moment to yawn and wipe his face from sleepiness, while the next camper doesn't notice that Jesse is not ready and shoots the ball. Jesse doesn't have enough time to react and is hit with the ball in his left eye.

Brandon comes running after hearing the campers scream of fear.

Brandon: What happened? Are you ok?

Jesse: Ugh. I'm fine.

Brandon: Why weren't you wearing your mask? Man, not getting enough sleep is going to kill you.

Jesse: Just get me some ice.

Later:

Jesse, Sarah, and Al walk into the house.

Mike & Joe are in the living room.

Sarah & Al: We're home.

Joe: Hey guys. Where's Jesse?

Al: He's right behind us.

Jesse walks in with an ice pack on his face. Mike & Joe look at him.

Joe: Um. Are you ok?

Jesse removes the ice pack to reveal his purple eye.

Mike: Did you get into a fight?

Jesse: Yeah, with a hockey ball. I'm going upstairs.

Jesse leaves, Mike & Joe don't say anything, and the rest of the day goes on.

Day 2: Company meeting

Jesse walks into the company as all eyes are on him.

Secretary: Sir, are you ok?

Jesse: Yes. It was just a small accident. I'll be fine.

Secretary: Ok. The meeting will start soon. Everyone is on the meeting room waiting.

Jesse: Thank you.

Jesse walks into the meeting room, all eyes still on him.

Jesse: Hello, everyone. We have some important things to discuss in today's meeting. So, let's get started if everyone's ready. Who's presenting their proposal first?

Presenter #1: I will be presenting first.

Jesse gets more tired and loses his focus as proposals go by. He even doses off on a few.

Final presenter: And that's my proposal (everyone clapping).

Jesse wakes up on the sound of clapping and claps as well, not knowing what he's even clapping for. Jesse stands up to thank everyone for their proposals.

Jesse: Thank you for your proposals. They were all very informative. You are all invited to.... (turning around)

As Jesse turns around, he accidentally knocks over a cup of coffee being served. His tiredness has prevented him from paying attention to his surroundings.

Coffee lady: I'm so sorry, sir. I'll have someone clean this up right away.

Jesse: It's no problem. That was my fault. As I was saying, you are all invited to an open buffet next door to grab anything you like on your way out.

The guest CEO approaches Jesse.

Guest CEO: What did you think of the proposals?

Jesse: Huh? (trying to keep his eyes open).

Guest CEO: The proposals?

Jesse: Oh, yes. They were fantastic.

Guest CEO: I see a great future in our companies.

Jesse: So do I (cleaning his shirt).

Guest CEO: Son, if today was a bad day for the proposals, we wouldn't have minded rescheduling the meeting.

Jesse: No, of course not. What makes you say that?

Guest CEO: Maybe you are having a bad day.

Jesse: Oh, this? (pointing at his purple eye). There was a small accident yesterday. Nothing to worry about, really. And the coffee spill is no big deal, things like this happen to everyone. I'm sorry if I have given you the wrong impression today. Believe me, we are really interested in working with your company. The proposals were great. I really do see a great future, if things work out between us.

Guest CEO: Take it easy, son. We all have our days, but first impressions only happen once. I'll be back in a few days to discuss the fate of our companies.

Jesse: And I'll be more prepared to listen.

Guest CEO: Good day.

Jesse: Good day, sir (shaking hands).

The CEO and his men leave to the buffet.

Jesse: Ugh. I only had to do one thing today, and I messed it up. This sleeplessness is really going to kill me. I won't let him get a bad impression about me, or the company. He'll see something much better next time we meet.

Later:

Mike & Joe stare at Jesse as he walks into Joe's house.

Joe: What happened to you? (laughing)

Mike: I'm sorry. I can't do this (laughing).

Jesse: A bad day at the office.

Joe: I hope it doesn't get worse by the day (laughing harder).

Mike: First your eye, now your shirt, what next? (laughing)

Jesse: Hopefully it ends here. I'm going to change my clothes, and probably take a nap.

Joe: You need one.

The doorbell rings. Joe opens the door.

Joe: Hey! Nice to see you guys!

Tess: Nice to see you, too. The girls are excited to be here.

Joe: Great timing. Come in. They can meet Sarah & Al, they got back from camp a few hours ago. Jesse just got back from the company, he wasn't at camp today. He's been having some rough days. Sarah, Al! I want you to meet someone!

Sarah & Al come downstairs.

Joe: This is my sister, Tess. And these are her daughters, Lily and Haley.

Lily: Hi!

Sarah: Hi!

Al: You wanna play with us?

Lily: Sure. Are those your bikes?

Sarah: Yeah, they're new.

Lily: That's cool. My bike is in the car because I take it to the park. We can all ride our bikes.

Sarah: That's a great idea. Let's go get your bike.

The kids play outside for about an hour, then come back inside.

Tess: Did you kids have fun?

Sarah: Yeah!

Lily: Where's Jesse?

Al: He's sleeping.

Joe: I think it's time you wake him up.

Al: Ok.

Al runs upstairs to wake Jesse.

Al: Wake up! We have guests!

Jesse: Ok, ok. I'm coming.

Jesse washes his face and comes down.

Lily: Jesse! (running to Jesse)

Jesse: Hi! I missed you (hugging Lily).

Tess: Hi! How are you? Joe tells me you've been having some bad days.

Lily: Look at his eye! Does it hurt?

Jesse: Not anymore.

Tess: Are you kids hungry?

Kids: Yeah!

Jesse: Sure.

Tess: There's nothing my fruit salad can't fix.

Jesse looks into the bowl.

Jesse: Hmm. You know that looks really good. As much as I want to have some, but I can't, because I'm allergic to mangoes. But I will try some of that pie right there.

Tess: How about you, kids?

Sarah, Al, and Lily: We'll have some pie, too.

Tess: Well, I tried.

The rest of the day goes on.

Day 3: Park

Al: I got it! I got it!

Mike: Nice catch!

Lily: Pass it to me!

Everyone is playing a nice game of frisbee.

Brandon: Let's take a break.

Nicole: I agree.

Jesse: Here's some water (passing bottles to everyone).

Voice: Jesse? Is that you?

Everyone turns around to see where the voice is coming from (Jesse spitting his water).

Voice: It is you!

Jesse: Oh, no.

Joe: What?

Jesse: It's Ashely.

Mike: Who's Ashley?

Brandon: A nightmare.

Ashley approaches Jesse.

Ashely: Jesse! It's been a while (hugging Jesse).

Jesse: Uh, what are you doing here (wiggling out of the hug)?

They step away from everyone to talk.

Ashley: I'm back in town for a little while. I'm so glad to see you. Aren't you glad to see me?

Jesse: Of course I am (sarcastically).

Ashley: Oh, we have so much to catch up on (grabbing Jesse's hand). What happened to your eye?

Jesse: It was worse a few days ago. Listen Ashley (freeing his hand), it's good that you're back in town and all but we really have nothing to talk about. We said we were going our own ways and would be just friends, remember?

Ashley: Then, let's talk, as friends (grabbing Jesse's hand).

Jesse: Friends don't hold each others hands like this (freeing his hand).

Nicole: That's It! (Walking)

Brandon: Where are you going?

Sarah: That can't be good.

Nicole: What do you think you're doing (charging at Ashley).

Ashley: Stay out of this, porcupine.

Nicole: Porcupine? At least my hair is real (pulling out one of Ashley's hair extensions). Get over it, he doesn't like you.

Nicole throws the extension to the ground.

Ashley: Aah! Well, he certainly doesn't like you either (breaking Nicole's necklace).

Nicole and Ashley start fighting.

Jesse: Stop! (getting in between the girls)

As Jesse steps in to break the fight, he is hit in the nose.

Nicole: Look what you've done.

Ashley: Jesse are you ok? (pushing Nicole out of the way)

Jesse: Ugh (bleeding from his nose).

Everyone else comes right away.

Brandon: Man, your days are just getting worse.

Ashley gets closer to Jesse.

Ashley: Let me help you get cleaned (reaching into her purse).

Jesse: I'm fine. Please, just leave.

Ashley: Ok. We'll talk later (kisses Jesse on the cheek)

Ashley walks away (smiling to enrage Nicole)

Nicole: I'm so sorry.

Jesse: It's ok. We finally got rid of her.

Nicole: For now.

The rest of the day goes on.

Day 4: Home

It's now evening time.

Joe: How was your day going?

Sarah & Al: Good.

Joe: How about you, Jesse? How was your day?

Jesse: So far so good. Nothing bad has happened, yet.

Mike: The curse is finally broken.

Jesse: I hope so. The CEO I met with the other day wants to meet again tomorrow.

Tess: That's a good reason to celebrate with some of my smoothies.

Tess hands everyone a glass of smoothie. Sarah, Al, and Lily are the first to try.

Lily: Thanks, mommy. It's really good.

Sarah: Yeah.

Al: Thanks.

Jesse takes a sip.

Tess: What do you think?

Jesse feels a little tingling on his tongue and an itchy throat.

Jesse: What's in it? (pulling the collar of his shirt)

Tess: Strawberries, bananas, peaches, and mangoes.

Jesse: Mangoes?!

Joe: What's going on? You don't look ok.

Jesse: I'm allergic to mangoes! (sweating)

Tess: I thought you were joking.

Jesse: Why would I be joking? (coughing)

Tess: I thought it was just a funny excuse to avoid the fruit salad.

Mike: He's getting worse. I'll get the car ready.

Jesse is losing his breath as his airway swells and breaks into hives.

Jesse: Get....the....pen.

Joe: Pen? What pen?

Al: The epipen. It should be in his gym bag. That's where he always keeps it.

Al runs to the gym bag in the under stairs storage and grabs the epipen from the bag. Then, he hands it to Jesse. Jesse immediately administers the injection into his thigh and is rushed to the hospital where he is treated with Benadryl.

At the hospital:

Mike: You scared us a little. How are you feeling?

Jesse: Much better. A bit sleepy.

Tess: I'm so sorry.

Jesse: It's fine, really. I guess the curse is not over yet.

Joe: Your days are just getting worse.

Jesse: Yeah, we'll see what tomorrow holds for us.

Joe: You sure you're ok?

Jesse: Yeah. I've had worse.

Joe: Then, let's get you out of here.

Everyone drives home, and Jesse is now asleep in the car.

Sarah: Wake up, Jesse. We're home.

Jesse: Alright. I'm going to bed.

The rest of the day goes on.

Day 5: Home

Mike & Joe walk into the house, while Jesse is sitting on the couch working on his laptop.

Joe: No camp today?

Jesse: I dropped off Sarah & Al and came back to work on planning the next few weeks of camp, including a game plan.

Mike: Sounds fun.

Jesse: Sort of.

Joe: How was the drive?

Jesse: It was fine. The medication wore off a few hours afterwards.

Joe: That's what I need to hear. I'm here to grab some lunch and will be back later.

Jesse: Don't you usually take your lunch with you?

Joe: Mike forgot to bring some.

Mike: Oh, because it's my job to bring you lunch everyday.

Joe grabs his lunch and they leave. Jesse continues to work on his laptop for the rest of the day.

Night time:

Al: You've been working on your laptop all day.

Jesse: I know (yawning). And I still have a lot to figure out.

Sarah: Why so much?

Jesse: I've been procrastinating this work because of everything that's been going on. Nicole wants it soon. And the game plan needs to be good, so I have to really think about that.

Sarah: It's really late now. I think we're going to bed even though we don't have camp tomorrow. Goodnight.

Al: Goodnight.

Joe: You're not going to bed?

Jesse: No. I'll be up a little longer to finish this up.

Joe: Goodnight, then.

The rest of the night continues with Jesse working on camp work....and some chatting.

Later that night:

Joe comes down to find Jesse sitting asleep with his head back on the couch, a bunch of crumbled papers, and the laptop open on the table. Joe moves the mouse to wake up the screen and see what's on, but a password is needed. Then, Joe grabs some water from the kitchen and goes back upstairs. The rest of the night goes on.

Day 6: Meeting

Jesse is sleeping on the floor under the table when his phone rings on the table. Jesse reaches for the phone.

Jesse: Hello? (sleepy voice). What?! (getting up and hitting his head on the table). I'm coming right away.

Al: What's wrong?

Jesse: I'm late for the meeting. I must've slept through the alarm. Why didn't you guys wake me up?

Sarah: How are we supposed to know?

Jesse: I'm going to change.

Jesse comes down in a hurry after changing.

Jesse: I'm leaving now. Lock all the doors until Joe comes home. Stay safe guys.

Sarah & Al: We will.

Jesse hurries to his car and drives off.

Jesse: I can't believe this. My one chance to prove myself is gone.

As he is driving to the meeting, he is pulled over by police.

Officer: Do you know why I'm stopping you?

Jesse: I know I was a little over the speed limit.

Officer: A little? You passed 8 cars in the last mile. I'm going to have to give you a ticket. License and registration.

Jesse hands the officer his license and registration.

Officer: I'm going to run your license and registration (leaving to his car).

Jesse: Great. Just what I needed, another delay. I'm totally late for this meeting.

Jesse takes out his phone and calls the secretary.

Secretary: Mr. Williams, you're late for the meeting.

Jesse: I know. Let him know I'll be there as soon as I can. I'm having traffic issues.

The officer takes a while running the information.

Officer: Here you go (giving back the license and registration). And here's this (handing ticket). Don't let me catch you speeding again.

The officer drives off and Jesse drives after.

Jesse: Oh, man. My insurance is gonna go through the roof. I don't have time for traffic school (putting ticket away).

Jesse runs into road construction, another delay.

Jesse: Oh, come on! (hitting steering wheel)

Construction signs warn of a 45 minute delay.

At the meeting:

CEO: Where is Mr. Williams? This is not acceptable.

Secretary: He will be here shortly. He says there are some traffic issues.

CEO: That is not an excuse. How can I trust him with my company if he can't mange his time properly. I have to go now. Please let Mr. Williams know that I am very disappointed in him....a first impression truly only happens once. Please also let him know that our companies don't have a future together.

The CEO angrily leaves. Minutes after the CEO leaves, Jesse arrives.

Jesse: Is he still here?

Secretary: No, sir. He was disappointed about the situation.

Jesse: I have to call him (calling). Sir, I am so sorry about what happened. I....

CEO: My company and I have no time for excuses. I'm sorry, but I can't jeopardize the fate of my company. Maybe you should take the fate of your company a bit more seriously. It would be a shame to see a company like this go down because of negligence. Good day (hangs up).

Jesse hangs up in disappointment and angrily leaves the company.

At home:

Jesse walks in with a disappointed face.

Sarah: Are you ok?

Jesse doesn't reply and goes upstairs. He takes out his speeding ticket, looks at it, and places it on his desk. Then, he throws himself on his bed. Joe knocks on the door.

Jesse: Come in.

Joe: Another bad day?

Jesse: The worst.

Joe: What's this? A speeding ticket?

Jesse: I don't wanna talk right now.

Joe: Then at least tell me why today's the worst. It can't be the ticket.

Jesse: I don't wanna talk about that either.

Joe: There has to be a reason for everything that has happened this week.

Jesse: Well, there isn't ok? I don't have an answer for every question you have. Just because we talked a few times before, that doesn't mean it's going to become a thing.

Joe: Fine. Have it your way.

Jesse: Just close the door on your way out.

Joe closes the door (annoyed face). Jesse puts his face back on his bed. Then, his phone makes a sound. It's a message notification from EJ.59. He starts chatting right away.

Latest chat:

EJ.59: I miss him. I really do. I wish I can hear his voice or even see him just one more time. He's probably a handsome man with all the girls around him. He always had the ladies' attention.

K2_E4: What happened?

EJ.59: A long story, but it wasn't my fault. That's all I have to say.

K2_E4: What would you do to see him again?

EJ.59: I'd do anything.

At this point, Jesse is sure that they're both ready to know the truth.

K2_E4: It might happen someday. Someday soon.

EJ.59: I'd give anything for that day.

K2_E4: I have to go, now. We'll talk later.

EJ.59: Ok. Bye.

Jesse gets up and locks the door. Then, he checks the surveillance. Everybody is in the living room. Jesse thinks for a while and hesitates a little, but finally decides that it's time to call Elizabeth. He calls the number he saved a while back.

Elizabeth: Hello?

Jesse: Hi.

Elizabeth: Who is this?

Jesse doesn't answer.

Elizabeth: You're calling from a number in the United States. I think you have the wrong number.

Jesse: I don't think so.

Elizabeth: Well, who are you looking for?

Jesse: I'm looking for....Elizabeth Williams.

Elizabeth: You are mistaken. You....have the wrong number (frightened).

Jesse: No, I don't.

Elizabeth: I'm going to hang up, now.

Jesse: No, wait....the duck and the bird were finally reunited.

Elizabeth: Jesse? (crying)

Jesse: Hi, mom....I never forgot that story.

Elizabeth: I can't believe this (wiping away tears of joy). I've had to hide for the longest time ever.

Jesse: It's ok, mom. You won't have to anymore. I know it wasn't your fault. I never believed anything they said....and I never lost my love for you.

Elizabeth: I'm so sorry for not being there, watching you grow and all.

Jesse: It's ok. What's important is that we'll never lose each other again. Hold on, I have a surprise for you.

Jesse turns on video call.

Elizabeth: Oh, you're such a handsome man (crying).

Jesse: I got it from you. You still look great....just like how I remember you.

Their conversation goes on with Jesse occasionally checking on the surveillance.

After a while:

Elizabeth: I have to go, now.

Jesse: Ok, mom.

Elizabeth: I don't know how I'm going to sleep tonight.

Jesse: We'll stay in touch, I promise.

Elizabeth: Ok, I love you so much.

Jesse: I love you, too....mom.

They hang up. Jesse forgot about all his problems and everything that had happened that day. He goes downstairs.

Sarah: Feeling better, I see.

Jesse: Much better.

Sarah: How did you fix your problem so quickly? You looked really mad.

Jesse: Well, I thought about it for a while and realized that whatever was bothering me wasn't going to be the last thing that bothers me. And it's probably not going to be the worst, either. Sometimes you think you have a problem, until you see someone else's problem or a bigger problem comes, then you get over it because you need to be ready to face the bigger problems coming ahead.

Joe: That's touching. I didn't know you were a man with emotions (sarcastically).

Jesse: Listen, about what happened earlier. I'm really sorry for acting that way. I was really upset. But seriously, you need to lay off the questions a little.

Joe: I can't help it, it's my job. But you're right, a deal is a deal. And I'm a man of my words.

Jesse's phone rings.

Jesse: Hello.

Helen: Hi, honey!

Jesse: Hi, mom (feeling a little weird).

Helen: What's wrong with your voice? Is everything ok?

Jesse: Oh, I just woke up from a nap that's all. You wanna talk to everyone else? Here (putting on speaker).

Helen: Oh, ok. Hi, everyone.

Jesse: I have to go to the bathroom. I'll be back.

Helen: Is everything ok with him? It seems like he doesn't want to talk to me.

Sarah: Don't worry, mom. He's just going to the bathroom. He had a tiring day that's all.

The rest of the conversation goes on, while Jesse waits until it ends. Then, he goes back down.

Jesse: How is she?

Joe: You would know if you talked to her.

Jesse: I really had to go.

Al: She was upset because you left without talking to her.

Jesse: I'll call her back later.

The days go on with the days getting better for Jesse and Elizabeth.
