Waffles and Rest

Lukas took the next few days off work. It wasn't his choice, but the doctor had informed the director that a few days rest would probably have Lukas up and running like normal. Tino had been caring for him and making sure he was eating and staying hydrated, and Lukas was incredibly appreciative.

He had been spending the days since he was released from the hospital stretching to make sure he stayed in shape. It was only a week and a half until opening night, and it could not be a worse time to be sitting at home. Although he despised not being able to dance, Lukas realized it was kind of nice to have free time. Ever since he started dancing as a kid, Lukas spent all of his free time dancing, and his life up until this point has practically been eat, dance, sleep, repeat. Now that he thought of it, that might've been the reason why he had the social skills of a hermit.

On his last day of rest before returning to the company, Tino left early in the morning to get him some tea from Starbucks, and returned just in time for Lukas to wake up. "How is my favorite roommate in the whole wide world?!" Tino sang as he entered the apartment to find Lukas sitting on the couch reading one of Tino's home-imporvement magazines.

"I'm your only roommate" Lukas responded, looking up at Tino with a smirk as the smiley Fin held the cup of tea out for him to take. Lukas thanked him and took the drink, taking a sip and letting out a sigh as he felt the warmness hit his lips.

"I didn't get anything to eat but I'll make you some waffles" Tino said, making sure Lukas was drinking his tea as he headed back towards the kitchen.

"You know you really don't have to-"

"Lukas," Tino interrupted, "I'm making you breakfast. If I don't feed you I'm scared you'll forget to eat." Lukas rolled his eyes.

"Okay I didn't have time to eat once and now suddenly everyone thinks I have a problem" Lukas muttered, slightly angry that everyone was treating him like a baby.

"I don't think you have a problem! I know how much you love food. I just want to make waffles because I don't want you to have to do more work than you have to while you're trying to rest" Tino stated as he whisked the ingredients together.

"Well thanks" Lukas replied, feeling a bit guilty after snapping at him. Tino just smiled and returned to making waffles, singing softly as he turned on the stove. Lukas noticed his demeanor was even more smiley than usual. He was making waffles with a skip in his step, and the tune he was singing was awfully upbeat for this early in the morning. After a few minutes, Tino walked back over to the couch with a plate of waffles with a big slab of butter on the top of them. Lukas thanked him before cutting into them and inhaling the first few bites.

"Wow, you're really hungry" Tino exclaimed, watching in amazement at the vacuum that was Lukas Bondevik.

"No- you just make really good waffles" Lukas replied looking up with an appreciative stare before continuing to devour the waffles. Tino had barely even finished his own waffles before Lukas had set the plate down on the coffee table with an exasperated sigh. No one made waffles like Tino.

"Did you see Berwald at Starbucks today?" Lukas asked, surprising both Tino and himself as he awaited the response. Tino nearly choked on his waffles. Lukas never asked personal questions, especially when they related to relationships. The only thing Tino had ever seen Lukas talk about with interest were dancing, buttery-foods, and the Harry Potter books. This was new.

"He asked me to go out for dinner but I told him I had rehearsal" Tino uttered, sounding dissapointed as he told Lukas the news.

"That sucks. Maybe you could invite him to opening night and get dinner afterwards" Lukas suggested, eliciting a huge smile from the Fin.

"Oh my god that is the best idea that I have ever heard! I'm going to text him right now! You are the best roommate ever I love you" Tino half-yelled, bouncing up from his seat on the couch as he ran back to the kitchen to get his phone. Lukas watched on in amusement as he saw Tino unlock his phone and type the fastest text Lukas had ever seen. Tino squealed from across the apartment and Lukas chuckled.

"He said 'sounds fun'! Oh my god I'm going to scream" Tino yelled, huge smile on his face as he did a little dance in the kitchen.

"You're such a dork" Lukas said, finding himself genuinely smiling for the first time in ages. He was happy Tino was happy.

"Ugh I have to get to rehearsal but when I get back I'm going to give you the biggest hug in the history of the universe. I left you a sandwich in the fridge for lunch and some snacks in the cabinet if you get hungry" Tino called out, making sure Lukas heard him as he grabbed his bag of dance stuff and opened the door to leave.

"Thanks mom" Lukas teased, smirking as he watched Tino roll his eyes and head out the door towards rehearsal. As he was left in the quiet apartment by himself, Lukas realized how fortunate he was to have Tino as a roommate. He had never had someone take care of him like that before, not even his own parents. Lukas shook the thought out of his head as he picked up his plate and headed towards the kitchen towards the sink. It was time to stretch.

After changing into a pair of tights, Lukas headed towards the stretching room. When Tino and Lukas had chosen the apartment, they made sure it had 3 bedrooms so that they could convert one into a dance space. It was an expensive investment, but it was definitely worth it for days like these. Lukas spent a ton of his time in the stretching room, as the bar they had installed faced a window overlooking Copenhagen.

As Lukas stretched, he thought about all the rehearsal he was missing, and his heart pounded a little harder as he felt his stress levels rising. His doctor and his director told him not to stress too much, but Lukas's perfectionist mindest would never let that happen. In an attempt to fight stressful feelings, Lukas began thinking about Mathias, who he still hadn't texted. Lukas had kept the scrunched up piece of paper with his phone number on it on his dresser since the party, but he had never gained enough courage to communicate.

Lukas scrunched his nose in frustration as he remembered how awkward he had been in their first couple of interactions. He was sick of being such an uncomfortable human being. After he finished stretching his hamstring, he grabbed his phone from his room and took a deep breath, unlocking it as he went to his contacts and found Mathias Køhler. Staring down at the phone screen, Lukas muttered the name under his breath. It sounded nice.

As he stared down at the screen, he slowly moved his finger towards the text symbol and when he finally pressed it, he found himself staring at the blinking vertical line that appeared at the blank box, waiting for Lukas to type. As he went to type the first letter of his text, Lukas heard a knock at the apartment door.
