Cookies and Coffee

Lukas nearly dropped his phone as he heard a knock on the door. Tino must've forgotten something. Throwing his phone onto his bed, Lukas made his way down the hall and towards the door. Opening it, Lukas's eyes opened wide in surprise. It was Mathias.

"Hi?" Lukas uttered, sounding slightly confused as he locked eyes with the Dane who was standing in the doorway with some tupperware in his hand.

"Hi! How are you? Sorry to show up uninvited but I wanted to make sure you were feeling better" Mathias spoke, smiling as he looked down at the Norwegian.

"Oh- thank you. I'm feeling better" Lukas responded, still holding the door open as Mathias awkwardly hovered in the doorway, not knowing if he was invited inside. Lukas wasn't good at picking up on social cues.

"I brought you some cookies!" the Dane said, holding up the tupperware with a smile.

"Thank you, um- please, come in" Lukas said, taking the cookies out of Mathias' outstretched arms before motioning for Mathias to join him in the living room. After leading Mathias towards the couch, Lukas turned back towards the kitchen before saying "I'm going to make some coffee."

After leaving Mathias in the living room by himself, Lukas practically ran into the kitchen and set down the tupperware, catiching his breath as he tried to calm himself down. He hadn't been expecting Mathias, and now his heart was pounding and his palms were sweating. After taking a few seconds to let his brain sort out what to do, Lukas ground the coffee beans Tino had brought back from Starbucks a few days prior and then put them in the French press. After heating up some water and pouring it into the press, Lukas let it steep. Knowing he was leaving Mathias in the living room for an uncomfortably long period of time, he grabbed a plate and dumped Mathias' cookies onto it before heading back into the living room, plate in hand.

"The coffee is steeping, so it'll be a few minutes" Lukas uttered, setting the plate down on the coffee table in front of the Dane before turning to go back into the kitchen. Lukas was about to take a step before he felt Mathias tug lightly on the back of his sweater. "Yes?" Lukas asked.

"You're acting like a waiter. Why don't you sit while the the coffee is steeping" Mathias suggested, smirking at the obviously fidgety Norwegian in front of him.

"Oh- of course" Lukas replied, trying to play is off cooly as if he hadn't been freaking out internally. He hated how nervous Mathias made him feel. Even though he hated social interaction, he had never fidgeted so much in front of another human. He usually kept a very calm, dead-inside look about him even though he was internally freaking out, but this time his nervousness definitely showed.

After sitting down on the couch and making sure to leave quite a large distance in between him and Mathias, Lukas let out a nervous smile. "So, what have you been up to the past couple days?" Mathias asked, scooching a little closer towards Lukas with a concerned look on his face.

Lukas tried to back up a little but realize he was already on the edge of the couch. "Just resting and getting force-fed by Tino. It hasn't been the most graceful week of my life" Lukas exclaimed with a sigh, eliciting a chuckle from Mathias.

"Hey- we all have rough weeks. At least you're back to dancing tomorrow" Mathias said optimistically before taking one of the cookies off the plate.

"Yeah about that- I'm sorry we didn't really get off on a good note. The first and second times I met you I ran away from you, and then the third time I saw you I passed out and wound up in the hospital. I promise I'm not crazy" Lukas rambled, suddenly breaking the dam in his head and releasing the stream of thoughts that had been plaguing him for the past couple days.

"That's okay! I've had my fair share of awkward moments. One time I called my teacher mom in class," Mathias paused, "It was a male teacher." Lukas let out laugh as he watched Mathias shove a cookie into his mouth as his faced turned a light shade of pink.

Realizing the cofee was still steeping, Lukas quickly got up and walked into the kitchen. After pressing down the plunger he poured the coffee into two mugs and carried them into the living room, where Mathias was checking himself out in the camera of his phone. He hadn't seen Lukas walk back into the room, so Lukas watched on with a slight smile as Mathias fiddled with his hair and made sure there wasn't anything in his teeth. Lukas couldn't help but find him adorable and a little less intimidating than he had seemed a week or so ago.

Making sure not to startle the him, Lukas pretended he hadn't been there the whole time and simply strode back into the room as Mathias quickly shoved his phone back into his pocket. Lukas sat back down on the couch and handed Mathias the coffee, trying not to laugh as he pictured the Dane nervously checking himself out on his phone.

As Mathias took a sip, Lukas grabbed a cookie and dunked it into the coffee, making sure it soaked up the coffee before popping it into his mouth. "I'm sorry I never called or texted you after you gave me your number- I just didn't think you would want to see me after the whole passing out thing" Lukas apologized, running his finger along the rim of the mug as he looked over at Mathias with sincerity.

"Are you kidding me?! Don't be sorry! I never thought you would call me back anyway- you're like waaaaaaaay out of my league" Mathias replied with a nervous laugh, causing Lukas to try not to spit out the sip of coffee he had just taken. Lukas gulped and began fiddling the cuff of his sweater as he mustered up enough courage to ask a question he had been dying to ask for a while now.

"So would you like to go out sometime maybe? Like after the opening night or something?" Lukas asked quietly, his face turning red as he figured he must've sounded like an idiot.

"Hey- you stole my question! That's what I was gonna ask!" Mathias whined jokingly, grinning ear to ear as Lukas let out a sigh of relief. "There's a cool restaurant I'd love to take you- unless you have a better idea!"

"No, to be completely honest I didn't really have a plan" Lukas admitted, letting out a chuckle before taking another sip of coffee.

"Great! Anyway, I think rehearsal starts in like 15 minutes. How long does it take to get from here to the theatre?" Mathias asked, looking at the time on his phone.

"I'd say about a 10 minute walk" Lukas said, looking on at Mathias in amazement as he realized the Dane was supposed to be at the theatre around 30 minutes ago. "You better get going."

"True. Well I just wanted to make sure you were alright, and also I was supposed to ask you out but you did it for me so- yeah," Mathias said, "thank you so much for the coffee."

"Thank you for the cookies- and thank you for not completely giving up on me" Lukas joked, standing up as Mathias got up off the couch to go. Lukas walked with him towards the door and watched him put his coat on before opening the door. Lukas raised his hand to give a wave goodbye but was instead wrapped in a hug, not knowing what to do as he felt Mathias' strong arms wrap around him. Lukas was suddenly overwhelmed with the smell of pine needles and coffee, and the tingling feeling of getting touched after being touch-starved for such a long time.

As Mathias let go, Lukas felt slightly dissapointed. He just wanted to reach out and grab him and feel the warmth of his body pressed against his own. Everything about Mathias made him feel jittery, and that hug was no exception.

"See you tomorrow" Mathias said with a wink as he headed out the door.

"Bye" Lukas squeaked, lifting up a weak arm and waving goodbye before shutting the door. Lukas sighed and felt a surge of giddiness run through him as he leaned his back against the door and slid down onto the ground, where he wrapped his arms around his legs as he tried to contain his excitement. Things were finally starting to go his way.
