CHAPTER THIRTEEN, a confession & two break-ups
It was quiet and peaceful in the Myers house because everyone was asleep. Besides Fallon. She was in her pjs, curled up with a blanket on the couch in the living room and watching Full House. She furrowed her eyebrows, growing confused when she heard the doorbell go off. She glanced at her phone to see the time, wondering who would be at her house so late.
She threw the blanket off her and paused her show before she got up. When she got to the front door, she grabbed an umbrella that was on the umbrella rack by the door in case she might need protection. She looked through the peep whole of the door, relaxing when she saw it was just EJ. She set the umbrella back in the umbrella rack before she unlocked the door and opened it.
"Hey, EJ." Fallon greets with a bright smile. Her smile falls, noticing how upset he seemed to be and she raised her eyebrows upon seeing the Duke sweatshirt his dad gave him was laid over his shoulders. "What's up?"
"Can we talk?" EJ asks. He shrugs. "I just need to talk to someone and I didn't know where else to go."
"Wow," A surprised look forms on Fallon's face and she puts her hand over her heart. "I'm honored." She said, smiling when she saw she got EJ to smile slightly. "Yeah, of course we can talk. Come in." She steps to the side, opening the door wider to let him walk in. "I was just busy doing," She chuckles, shaking her head. "Well, nothing really. Just watching TV."
EJ sits on the couch as Fallon closes the door and then she joins him on the couch. "So, what do you wanna talk about, Eej?" She asked, speaking in a teasing way.
EJ rolls his eyes slightly although there was a small smile on his face. He takes the Duke sweatshirt off his shoulders, setting it beside him on the couch. He sighs, turning to face her and bringing one leg on the couch, meaning that their legs were touching now but they didn't mind. "It's about Duke. I didn't really get in."
"I kind of figured by your shocked response." Fallon nods. She smiles sympathetically at him, tilting her head to the side. "Let me guess, your dad did something to get you in?"
EJ looks at her with surprise and nods. "Yeah, that's exactly it. How'd you know?"
"I'm in the same boat as you." Fallon admits. She exhales sharply, avoiding eye contact with EJ as she grows nervous. "There's this dance academy I applied to that's supposed to help you become a professional dancer-"
"Wait," EJ's eyes widen, his smile widening. "You applied to a dance academy? Lonnie, that's so cool! Why didn't you tell anyone?"
"'Cause I didn't get in at first." Fallon sighs heavily. She shrugs. "And I didn't want everyone to think I was a disappointment or something so I didn't tell anyone." She frowns, feeling guilty for not telling her friends about this. "Not even Ophelia or Luca know."
EJ looks at her with sympathy, feeling bad for her and he continues to stay quiet and let her continue, but he did put a hand on her knee that touched to comfort her. "Anyway, my aunt is one of the people in charge at the academy and she talked with the other people in charge to convince them to give me a chance," She rolls her eyes and scoffs slightly. "And all because of her I got into the academy. It feels like," She sighs heavily, her shoulders dropping in defeat. "I don't know, it feels like-"
"You didn't earn it." EJ interrupts her, sympathetically smiling at her. "I understand completely what you're going through. It sucks, doesn't it?"
"Yeah, it does." Fallon agrees, smiling slightly at him. It was nice to know there was someone else going through the same thing she was so she could confide in them. "So enough about me," She shakes her head, putting her hand on his hand that was on her knee and squeezes his hand. "You came here to talk about you. So please continue."
EJ smiles at her at nods. He grows quiet for a few moments, figuring out how to say what he wants to say next and shakes his head. "So it's just that my entire life has been mapped out for me as long as I can remember. You know?"
"No, sorry." Fallon replies with a small chuckle. "I usually have no clue what I'm doing and sometimes I wish I had my life mapped out for me so it would be easier." She smiles at him. "So, EJ, what is it that you want?"
EJ looks surprised that she asked him that. He shakes his head. "I don't know." He chuckled.
"Okay, here's what we're gonna do." Fallon said. "Close your eyes."
EJ raises his eyebrows at her with an amused smile forming on his lips. "Seriously?"
"Yes," Fallon giggles, squeezing his hand that she was still holding onto. "Seriously." She mocks him, earning a chuckle from EJ. "Now close your eyes."
"Okay, okay." EJ nodded and closed his eyes.
"EJ Caswell," Fallon speaks dramatically. "When you think about your life, what do you see?"
"I see a guy who cheated at water polo." EJ replies. "And who tried to bribe Miss Jenn into giving him the part of Troy." He opens his eyes, taking his hand away from Fallon's. "And there's more." He shook his head and frowned.
"Okay, Eej," Fallon speaks in a teasing voice. She smiles softly at him. "It's my turn."
"Your turn?" EJ raised his eyebrows at her, looking at her curiously.
"When I think of you, I see the guy who bought a plane ticket for Gina," Fallon smiles. "I see a guy who is super talented and yeah you made some mistakes, but you have a really good heart. And guess what? No one is perfect, everyone makes mistakes. I see a guy who tries really hard, but fails a lot and good thing is he keeps on trying." EJ could feel tears forming in his eyes at what Fallon is saying and he smiled softly at her, looking at her with a fond expression. He had no idea this is what she thought of him.
Fallon sheepishly smiles and she blushes. "And I see a guy who I have been crushing on for a few years now." She admitted, earning a surprised look from EJ.
"Y-You have a crush on me?" EJ stuttered out a question, his face turning a light shade of pink.
Fallon chuckles and shrugs. "Of course I have a crush on you, EJ." She stares at him with disbelief. "How could I not have a crush on you?"
"Because of everything I just listed seconds ago." EJ replied, still looking at her with surprise and slight disbelief. He couldn't believe someone as beautiful and talented as Fallon liked someone like him.
Fallon takes a deep breath, taking ahold of his hand. She smiles softly at him, ignoring the way butterflies were swarming in her stomach and how her heartbeat was increasing or how she could feel the heat rising to her face. "I like you, EJ, so so much." She chuckles, shaking her head. "I lost count on how many years I've liked you." She looks hurt upon seeing the surprise look still on EJ's face and she lets go of his hand. "I get it that you don't like me the same way but you don't have to look so surprised."
"Wha-No, that's-that's not it." EJ stammers, quickly reaching forward to grab her hand as blush made its way to his face. He smiles widely at her. "Fallon, I like you too. So so much." He copies what Fallon said and they both share a small laugh. He shrugs. "I just, I couldn't believe someone as beautiful and talented as you liked someone like me."
Fallon smiles from ear to ear and by now she knew her face was probably a dark red, but she didn't care. "I would be crazy to not like someone like you." She said. She pauses for a moment before she shyly asks, "Can I kiss you?"
"I was going to ask you that." EJ chuckled lightly and now he was smiling from ear to ear too.
"I'm not hearing a no." Fallon grinned.
Instead of saying anything else, EJ leans forward, cupping the right side of her face and closes his eyes as he kisses her. Fallon closes her eyes when his lips met hers, smiling into the kiss. When they both pulled away, they're smiling widely at each other.
"Does that answer your question?" EJ asked her, gently rubbing her right cheek with his thumb.
"Yeah," Fallon responds. "It does."
"Fallon, would you like to be my girlfriend?" EJ questioned, smiling softly at her.
Fallon beams at him and nods. "Yes, of course."
EJ ended up hanging out at Fallon's house a little later. They both were now cuddled up on the couch together, watching Full House. EJ looked over at Fallon with a fond expression when he saw she was sleeping. He gently moved her head off his shoulder and stood up before he moved Fallon so she was laying down. He then picked up the Duke sweatshirt and put it on her like a blanket.

Ophelia was currently sitting on the couch in her pjs, eating a bowl of ice cream and watching the tv show Friends at her mom's place. Her face was stained with tears and the bowl of ice cream was already half eaten. Might be wondering why she was in her pjs, eating a bowl of ice cream and crying? Well, she and Eric had broken up an hour ago.
They both broke up on good terms and for good reasons, but was still a break up. Ophelia knew a break up would always hurt no matter how it ended, but she just wasn't prepared for the heartbreak afterwards. Eric and Ophelia had decided on breaking up because his family decided on leaving early. Instead of at the end of the week they're now leaving tomorrow. Eric didn't even know of the news until he had gotten home from school today and saw all the moving boxes and moving trucks outside at his mom so Ophelia didn't blame him for not letting her know sooner that the date when he's leaving changed.
Phoebe, Ophelia's mom, had her arm wrapped around her daughter, rubbing Ophelia's arm to comfort her. "Having your first break-up always sucks. Well, actually, all break-ups suck. I know how much you liked that boy. I'm sorry, honey."
"It's okay, mom." Ophelia sighs. putting the spoon in the bowl of now empty ice cream and puts the bowl on the coffee table. "I'm just glad I feel better than I did an hour ago." She smiles at her mom, leaning her head on Phoebe's shoulder. "I think ice cream, Friends, and snuggles with you made it feel better."
Phoebe smiles at her. "Yeah, I thought those three things would make you feel better."
The mother-daughter duo looked over at the door when there was a knock. "I'll get it." Phoebe offered and Ophelia lifted her head off her shoulder so her mom could stand up. Phoebe walked over to the door after she stood up and opened it.
Ophelia paid no attention to who was at the door and continued watching Friends that is until she heard her name being said. "Yeah, Ophelia's here." Phoebe spoke in a reassuring tone. Ophelia picked up the remote to pause the show and glances over at her mom, tilting her head to the side with furrowed eyebrows. The area she was sitting at she couldn't see who was at the door, so she wondered who her mom was speaking to.
"Come on in." Phoebe steps to the side, letting the person who was at the door walk in. Ophelia smiles slightly upon seeing Ricky walk in, but then frowns when she noticed it looked like he had been crying. "I'll let you guys talk." Phoebe smiles at the two teens, closing the front door. "I'll be in my room if you need me."
When her mom left, Ricky walks further into the living room where Ophelia was. "Hey," Ricky greets shyly, putting his hands in the front pockets of his jeans as he stares at the ground. "Sorry for coming here so late and without letting you know I was coming over. I just..." He swallows the lump in his throat, feeling tears brimming his eyes again as he shakes his head. "You're the first person I thought of to go to."
"Rick..." Ophelia speaks softly and stands up, looking at him with sympathy. She didn't need him to tell her that he and Nini broke up. "I'm so sorry." She pulled him into a hug, rubbing his back to comfort him. He didn't hesitate to wrap his arms around her, burying his face in the crook of her neck. Ophelia didn't know how long they stayed in that positions, it felt like it had been a few minutes, but she didn't mind. She whispered reassuring words and rubbed his back to comfort him the whole time.
Ricky is the one to pull away first, sniffles and wipes his tears. "Sorry." He felt guilty for coming to Ophelia late a night, crying into her shoulder with no explanation.
"You don't have to apologize for anything." Ophelia tells him. She sits down on the couch, patting the spot beside her as she sends a small smile to Ricky, gesturing for him to sit beside her. "You wanna talk about it?" She grins, pointing at the tv that had an episode of Friends paused. "Or we can just watch Friends and eat ice cream."
"No, we can talk about it." Ricky reassured her.
Ophelia looks a bit surprised he was okay with talking about his break up right away, but she nods and gives him her full attention. She smiled encouragingly at him, silently encouraging him to start when he was ready.
Ricky takes a deep breath before he explains what happens. "Okay, so, Nini and I broke up..."
****
After Ricky explained why he and Nini broke up, Ophelia hugged him and told him that even though it might not seem like it but things would get better for him. She also confessed she and Eric broke up and he consoled her. Now, they were currently watching Friends, sitting close enough to each other where their shoulders touched.
Ricky had his arms wrapped around one of the pillows that were on the couch and even though he said he was fine, Ophelia could sense that he was still upset. She figured he needed some kind of affection so she wrapped her arm around his shoulders, rubbing his arm up and down. Ricky blinked away the new tears that were beginning to form and smiled slightly at the sweet gesture. He leaned into Ophelia, resting his head on her shoulder, earning a small smile from Ophelia.
