CHAPTER TWENTY-SIX, young love blossoms
Before the new school year started, she was meeting up with the boy she was confessing to. She had asked the boy to meet her at the park where they used to hang out when they were younger. It was a quiet spot, surrounded by trees, with a small pond in the middle. Gwen felt her nerves build as the moment drew closer, her heart racing with anticipation. She had replayed this conversation in her head countless times, but now that it was happening, she wasn't sure where to begin.
Her thoughts were a jumble of excitement, fear, and the weight of what this could mean for their friendship. As she neared the entrance to the park, she spotted a familiar figure waiting for her. Her breath caught in her throat, her heart skipping a beat while taking in the sight of him. He was as handsome as ever, and the mere sight of him made her pulse race.
As she got closer, the boy turned around, his eyes lighting up at the sight of her. He walked over, greeting her with a smile that made her knees weak. Blush spread across her cheeks, and she had to remind herself to breathe.
"Hey, you." He said, smiling fondly at her.
"Hey." Gwen replied, returning the smile though hers was more shy.
"So, what did you want to talk about?" He asked, his expression curious.
Gwen swallows hard, her nerves getting the better of her. "I uh, I have something I need to tell you. And I've been meaning to tell you for awhile." She admits nervously, guiding him over to some empty swings. They both sat down, facing each other. She held on the chains, trying to muster the courage to continue.
The boy waited patiently, watching her intently. He had an inkling about what she was going to say, but he didn't want to get his hopes up. "This is harder than I thought it was..." She complains softly, glancing down at her feet swinging lightly above the ground. "I didn't think it would feel this nerve-wracking."
"I'm here for you," He reassures her gently. "Take your time."
Gwen takes a deep breath, feeling a mixture of gratitude and anxiety wash over her. "Okay, here goes. You know how we've been friends for so long, right? Well, my feelings for you have changed into romantic feelings and they grew deeper over the years, and I-I finally have my answer. Ever since we met, I've always liked you and that never changed, but recently, I've fallen for you." She said, her words tumbling out quickly. She looks up, meeting his gaze and she feels her heart flutter at the adoration and warmth in his eyes. "And I still am falling for you...I just needed to tell you this. I couldn't wait any longer and needed to tell you. I understand if you don't feel the same or if you don't wanna hang out with me 'cause of this-"
Lips are pressed against hers, stopping her from rambling on further. A gentle hand came up to her cheek, and she melts into the kiss, her eyes closing and her heart soaring. His lips were soft and sweet, and the kiss was tender and filled with emotion. When they finally pulled apart, Gwen could hardly catch her breath. Her cheeks were flushed, her heart racing as she gazed at the boy who had just kissed her.
"So...Does that mean you feel the same way?" She asked nervously, biting her lip.
The boy's eyes twinkle as he nodded, his grin widening. "Of course I do." He murmurs, his voice filled with affection. "How could I not? You're amazing."
Gwen can't help but giggle, happiness blooming in her chest. "So are you," She replies, her smile widening while blush creeps up her neck. "And I'm so glad you feel the same way. I was so worried..."
He reaches over and interlaces his fingers with hers, giving her hand a gentle squeeze. "You have nothing to worry about." He murmurs, leaning in closer, his gaze flickering to her lips before looking back at her. "Is it okay if I kiss you again? I really wanna kiss you again." He confessed, his voice soft.
Gwen can't help the laughter bubbling up in her, her joy spilling over. "Please do," She murmurs, leaning in. "I wanna kiss you again too."
He closes the distance between them, their lips meeting once more. The kiss is more confident this time, filled with passion and desire. As the two young lovers kissed under the warm glow of the sun, a promise of a brighter future and the hope for something new was born. With her confession made and her feelings for the boy reciprocated, Gwen felt a sense of peace settle over her. She was glad she had finally taken the leap and told him how she felt. She couldn't wait to see where this newfound relationship would take them.
And as the sun sets on another summer day, Gwen couldn't help but look forward to the new school year, and what it would bring.
"So, Gwen Calloway," He says, grinning, his gaze softening. "Would you like to go on a date with me?"
Gwen laughs, her heart soaring as she leans forward, her gaze flickering to his lips. "Kamden Friar, I would love to." She murmured, closing the distance between them.
As the two new lovers kissed, their hearts were full and their futures were bright. Her summer had turned out so much different than she had expected, but Gwen couldn't be happier. With the new school year around the corner, she had a feeling that this was just the beginning of something beautiful.

"Gwen, wake up! You're gonna be late!"
Gwen groaned, burying her face more in the pillow at the faint voice calling her from the other room. The soft light of morning filtered through her curtains, and the lingering joy from the previous day filled her heart, but the reality of the first day of school tugged at her.
"Five more minutes, please!" She mumbled, her voice muffled by the pillow. Her voice was groggy with sleep, and she was reluctant to leave the warm cocoon of her bed.
"No can do, jelly bean. Time to get up," Ian replies, walking into her room. He opened the blinds, the light flooding the room and earning a groan from Gwen. "It's a big day for you. New school year, new opportunities. Aren't you excited?"
Gwen sat up, yawning while running a hand through her bedhead. She glances at her alarm clock and then gave her dad a halfhearted glare. "Not at this hour, dad." She complains, sighing as she got out of bed. "I was up late talking to a friend." She confessed.
Ian raises an eyebrow, his expression amused. "A friend? You mean Kamden?"
"How did you know he was here?" She mumbled shyly, feeling her face grow warm while she made an attempt to fix her hair better.
"Kid, I'm your dad. I know everything." Ian chuckles. "Plus I let him in. I have to get used to him using the door. It's weird 'cause I'm so used to Shawn climbing through your window. So, you finally confessed your feelings to Kamden?" He asked softly as she finally got up and went to to her closet.
More blush spread across her cheeks, and she nods, pulling a few articles of clothing out. "Yeah, and he feels the same. We're officially dating now."
"Awe, my little girl has her first boyfriend," Ian said, his tone teasing though his eyes were filled with affection. "I'm happy for you, Gwen. You deserve to be happy."
"Thanks, dad." She smiles softly, her blush deepening. "I'm really happy with Kamden."
Ian smiles, his expression fond. "I'm glad, jelly bean." He then turns serious as he points at her. "But if he ever hurts you, I won't hesitate to remind him that dads can be very and I mean very protective of their daughter if they get their heartbroken by some boy. Got it?"
Gwen laughs as she rolls her eyes. "Got it, dad. But you don't need to worry about Kamden."
Ian softens, nodding. "Alright, I'll take your word for it. But seriously, if you ever need anything, you come to me. Boyfriends or not, you'll always be my little jelly bean."
Gwen crosses the room and gave her dad a hug, feeling a warm sense of comfort. "I know, dad. Thanks for always looking out for me."
"Always." He hugs her back, kissing her head before pulling away. "Well, I'll let you get ready. You gonna go in with your uncle or do you want me to take you?" He asked.
"Can you take me? Or do you need to get to the fire station early?" She replied, glancing over at him.
"I'll take you," Ian assures her, nodding. "I'm already ready, so hurry up if you wanna be able to grab some breakfast." He added before leaving her room, giving Gwen some privacy to get dressed.
Gwen smiled to herself, feeling a wave of warmth at her dad's support. As much as his teasing could be embarrassing, she was grateful for how understanding and encouraging he always was. She rummaged through her closet, settling on a cute but comfortable outfit—something that would give her confidence as she navigated the first day of school with her new relationship.
As she slipped into her clothes, her thoughts drifted back to Kamden and the sweet moments they'd shared the day before. Her heart fluttered just thinking about him, and she couldn't help but wonder how today would go, walking into school with a boyfriend for the first time.
Once she was dressed and satisfied with her look, Gwen hurried downstairs where Ian was waiting for her in the kitchen, a plate of toast and scrambled eggs already set on the table. She smiled, her stomach growling at the scent and sight of the food.
"Thanks, dad." She said, taking a seat and digging in.
"No problem, jelly bean," Ian replies, handing her a glass of orange juice. "So, my little girl has her first boyfriend...I will need to have a talk with him at some point."
"Dad." She groans, her cheeks heating up. "We literally started dating yesterday."
"What? It's better time to start the 'dad talk' than now?" Ian teased with a grin, clearly enjoying Gwen's embarrassment. "Besides, I need to make sure he's worthy of my jelly bean."
Gwen rolled her eyes, though a smile tugged at her lips. "Kamden is a great guy. You don't have to give him the whole dad interrogation. He's super sweet."
"Sweet or not, I'm still your dad," Ian replies, his tone softening a little. "It's my job to look out for you. But don't worry, I won't embarrass you...Too much."
"Gee, thanks, dad." Gwen said, shaking her head, though deep down she appreciated how much her dad cared.
Ian chuckles, ruffling her hair before glancing at the clock. "Alright, finish up so we're not late. Wouldn't want your boyfriend waiting on you."
Gwen groaned again, but her heart fluttered at the thought of Kamden. She quickly finished her breakfast, excitement starting to outweigh her nerves. Today was the first day of their relationship, and she couldn't wait to see where it would lead.
With that thought in mind, Gwen and Ian set off to begin the first day of the school year. As they drove, Gwen's nerves started to creep back up, but she knew that she had nothing to worry about. She was just nervous and giddy because of the fact she had her first boyfriend.
Kamden was so sweet and thoughtful and caring. Last night she had invited him over for a movie night, and he had shown up with her favorite candy. He was so adorable and he made her feel like the luckiest girl in the world.
Gwen smiled, feeling warmth bloom in her chest. She was beyond lucky to have him, and she couldn't wait to spend the year together, getting closer and exploring this new aspect of their relationship. The rest of the car ride was filled with comfortable silence and music from the radio. Gwen watched the scenery change, the town slowly coming alive as people went about their day. The school came into view, and Gwen could feel her pulse quicken.
She wasn't nervous about her classes or seeing her friends. She was nervous and excited and giddy to see her boyfriend. That sounded crazy to her. She has a boyfriend! It was a foreign yet thrilling concept.
Ian pulls up to the drop-off spot, smiling at Gwen. "Have a good first day, jelly bean."
Gwen returns the smile. "Thanks, dad." She said, reaching over and giving him a hug. "You have a good day too. Love you."
"Love you too," Ian replies, hugging her tightly before pulling away. "Alright, get going, we manages to get here a couple minutes before you'd be late."
Gwen smiled and pulled away to step out and close the door. She waved goodbye to her dad and turned to walk towards the school. The cool morning air greeted her as she stepped outside, and the sun was shining brightly. Gwen took a deep breath, feeling a mix of anticipation and nerves as she walked toward the school. The familiar path to her high school felt a little different today; it was the start of something new.
As she approached the entrance, she spotted Kamden leaning against a wall, chatting with a couple of friends. The sight of him sent a rush of warmth through her, and her heart raced. He looked up just as she got closer, and his face broke into a grim. He said goodbye to his friends while he walked over to her.
"Hey, pretty girl," He greets her, his eyes crinkling with his smile. "How are you?"
Gwen felt a blush spread across her cheeks, his words and the pet name causing butterflies to flutter in her stomach. She smiles, her gaze locked on him. "I'm great now," She said softly, her smile widening. "How are you?"
Kamden's smile broadens, his gaze softening as he leaned in closer, pressing a gentle kiss to her forehead. "Now that I'm with you, amazing." He murmured.
Gwen blushes deeply, her heart racing as he pulls away. "You're too sweet," She said softly, biting her lip to contain her grin. "So I guess we're not doing a secret relationship or anything like that."
"Is that okay? Unless you're not ready, then it's fine-" Kamden began, nervous that he had overstepped. He scratches the back of his neck, his usual confidence faltering. "I don't want to rush you into anything you're not comfortable with."
Gwen blushes, mentally 'aweing' at how adorable and thoughtful he was. "No, no, it's fine." She assures him, reaching over and taking his hand, interlacing their fingers. "I want to be open about our relationship too. I want everyone to see how happy and lucky I am to have you as my boyfriend."
Kamden smiles, his nerves and doubts melting away as blush spreads across his cheeks. "You're amazing, do you know that?" He murmured, bringing her hand up and kissing the back of it. "I'm so lucky and grateful to have you as my girlfriend."
Gwen can't help the giggle that escapes her, and she leans in, pressing a soft kiss to his lips. It was a chaste kiss, but her heart soared, her pulse quickening. "C'mon, we're gonna be late." She murmured, pulling away, her gaze flickering to his lips once more before she stepped back and held him inside. She was blushing and feeling giddy as they walked through the hallway, their hands still linked together.
As they passed other students, Gwen felt their gazes on her, no doubt wondering about the new development between her and Kamden. But she didn't care. She was proud to be his girlfriend. And she was so happy and excited to see where this relationship would lead.
It was the beginning of something new, something special. And she couldn't wait to experience it all with Kamden by her side.
