Dear Taehyung, it's been a month already. I haven't seen you yet. Even though this city is big I thought our paths would cross, but they didn't. I caught myself walking past your house, even though I had to go into the opposite direction. But somehow I hoped to see you, somehow I'm glad I didn't see you.《

Your shift started at 10:30am. Quickly you changed your clothes to get into the outfit the Café owner had given you. It was ugly. Taehyung used to make fun of you but secured you that it looked cute. One of million lies he had told you.
It was a day like all the others, serving, making coffee, cutting the cake - pretty boring. But you earned a good wage of it, and that's what counts. The day went by and it was lunchtime already when you were told to cut new, fresh cakes. You were about to cut the strawberry cake when Irene, your co - worker tapped on your waist. Irene was a nice girl, she was one of your closest friends. She was the one who had provided you with chocolate and cake during your heartbreak. She knew a lot about you and you were thankful for her.

"What is he doing here?", you heard her mumble.

"Who?", you mumbled back, trying to look into the direction of the door.
She didn't have to say a word anymore, you saw who she had meant. It was Taehyung. What was he doing here? He knew that you worked here and avoided coming into the Café Shop because he knew exactly that the chances of you two meeting here was about 89%.

He looked amazing and even better than last year, he grew up for sure. His face looked soft as always as he was looking around, searching for somebody. No way he could see you. You looked like a mess, not only did the break up get to you mentally, you also had stopped to eat so to put it all together: you were weak. Weak mentally and physically. The instinct kicked in and you felt the blood heating up in your veins immediately. Quickly you hid behind the curtain. Your action was followed by Irene narrowing her eyebrows.

"Serve him, please.", your voice had become super quiet and trembling. Oh what that boy had did to you, he didn't deserve someone breaking mentally - and especially not you. You who had given your all into the relationship, you who was faithful all the time not thinking about any other guy. Nevertheless how much you wanted to hate him, you couldn't.
Irene reacted quickly and took one of the menu cards, heading towards him. They were talking and you heard Irene saying that you didn't work today, followed by a laughter of Taehyung. Had he seen you? You opened the curtain a little bit to hear more and see something. Irene mentioned something of "year...changes" and you figured out that she probably had said that your working times had changed after a year. Taehyung furrowed his eyebrows looking dangerously into your direction before you hastily closed the curtain.

"Hey, what are you doing behind the curtain? Go cut the cake!", your boss suddenly appeared in front of you, making you blush.

"Yes sorry.", with your head down you walked towards the strawberry cake, ignoring the stares you got. Including his.

Irene was trying to direct him to a table but he resisted, instead his feet came closer to you. You heard it and when he stood right in front of you, you smelled it.

"Hey.", his voice was rough. Just like in the dream you've had last night but this time it was really happening.

You looked up and after a year you could finally look into his eyes again. He smiled at your eye contact and your vision started to get blurry as you saw his unique rectangular smile. His dark shiny eyes, his soft red lips. He had changed, but still you felt so close to him. After 12 months. Pathetic.

"You know when your shift is over?", he looked down to you, weirdly still smiling showing all of his teeth.

"No, she doesn't.", Irene came from behind and grabbed Taehyung by his shoulder. What a hero. Or else you would have stood in front of him mumbling a language no one could ever understand.

"Actually you can end your shift here. Amber is coming in a few minutes, so it's alright, she'll take your place.", your boss passed by you three, focused on his papers.

"Great! Can you give me a little bit of your time? I'll buy you coffee. Or hot chocolate with extra sugar.", he smirked not knowing how much it broke your heart that he still remembered your favorite drink.

"Yes!", you said quietly. Irene was giving you intense stares but you decided to ignore them.

Millions of questions what he'd want rushed through your mind as you changed clothes. Was he still with Barbie?
Irene was top styled, always, that's why you looked in her bag for make up. Looking into the mirror made you sigh. Man, these sleeping bags were as deep as the Grand Canyon gorges. With a "little bit" of make up and some weird yoga exercises to stimulate your calm breathing, you were confident enough to face him. Taehyung. This really wasn't a dream, right?
No it wasn't. He was sitting at the table in the very back, his Latte Macchiato in his hands already and your hot chocolate with extra sugar on the table.
You sat down, trying to smile at him but you couldn't give him the generous smile he was giving you back.

"How are you?", he leaned a bit forward making your legs shiver and getting goosebumps.

"I...am.. good. Thank you. What about you?", you lied.

"You look a bit sick...", he reached his hand out to touch your forehead but you flinched away. He giggled a little and looked onto the floor immediately, his smile slowly fading.
After a few seconds of silence he finally put his words together.

"I am good too, thanks."

"Any reason for coming here?"

"I... I found the old box."

Your body stiffened, he made you crazy without realising it.

"What kind of box?"

"The box I put everything into."

"What do you mean?"

"Our memories. Like our photos, your presents and your poems. I even found that heart pillow you gave me on our first date.", he was grinning again at the memory. The memory of your first date made you grin too, but you didn't want to show him that he's the only boy who could make you happy. Why was he able to talk so casually to you, was wondering you too. You were not able to stay calm, internally you were exploding.

"You didn't throw it into the trash bin?"

He gasped a little and then looked up at you: "Did you?"

You nodded. It was an idea of Irene, to burn and rip everything which reminded you of him. Basically destroying the memories. The only thing you hid from Irene was the necklace and a photo.
Taehyung seemed extremely shocked by that, like he thought you would like to keep the memories with a boy who had broken your heart.

"Wow I don't know, I didn't think you would do this."

"Why? We're over anyway, so...", you slapped yourself internally. But after watching all those dramas of fierce woman you wanted to hurt him too, even though you didn't think you would accomplish this set goal.

"You're right. However I wanted to see you. Fuck what am I doing!", he buried his head into his hands.

"Are you still with Ba- your girlfriend?", your fingers started to shake making you worry how you could become this crazy only for him.

"Yes, I am.", he breathed in and out for a few seconds before continuing, "See I know I've been an asshole. I hate myself for that but what I hate the most is how I left you. We had the most... we had a very beautiful relationship and to end in these kinds of circumstances like we did, that was wrong wasn't it? Don't you think so too?"

Silence. You couldn't reply, instead you just looked at him with big eyes not knowing what he was about. As soon as he realised you wouldn't say anything he decided to say more.

"What I mean is... I want us still to be friends. Or not friends, but close enough so that we like each other. That when we think about each other, we associate beautiful, good feelings and memories. That's why I'm here... I guess."

You nodded slowly not really considering what he just had said. His eyes were staring into your soul and you could see the sparkle he always had whenever you were together. His staring was intense and his body stiffened. Without you really realising he grabbed your bag and fished out your phone. You had a code to unlock. He handed it to you so you could type in the code. It was 1230, his birthday. A familiar melody suddenly aroused your ears when he quickly grabbed his phone to deny the call he had given himself via your phone.

"I got your number now. I'll call you and we'll meet up some time, are you okay with that?"

You nodded and he gave you his beautiful rectangular smile again. The only difference was that now it seemed a bit weaker.

"I'll get going now. Should I drive you home?", he stood up and put the chair into its right position again.

"It's okay I don't live that far."

"Did you move?"

"No."

"Then I'll drive you.", he put some money for your two orders and grabbed your wrist to make sure you followed him. Irene was making hand signs that she would give you a call. Even though you tried to give her a thumbs up for "Okay", you failed. You were just walking and talking with the boy you would never get over with.
