The group walked around for a bit, trying to find the airport or any transportation that still worked. Hank helped Peter walk, and Erik and Moira helped Charles. Raven, who was in blue form, looked shaken, but she was mostly alright now. River walked in silence, close to the back of the group, by herself. How was I able to control the wind? she wondered. That's not my mutation. Scott ran up to her, breaking her out of thoughts.
"Hey," he said. She smiled.
"Hey, Summers. How're you?" she asked. He shrugged.
"Been better. This'll all probably hit me in the middle of the night later on, to be honest." He laughed. "So um...that stormy girl is coming to the mansion with us." River looked back at the white-haired girl talked with Jean, casually stealing glances at Raven. Kurt trailed next to them. They were going to use Kurt for teleporting back to the house, but one, he was still weak from earlier and two, he wasn't sure if he could go that far. River guessed the two girls were filling him in. Kurt had looked a little pale since the angel person had not gotten up from the plane explosion. She wondered if they had been friends and decided to ask him later on.
"Hope she doesn't bring any lightning into my room. Although it's a good prank for Jubi," River said thoughtfully. Scott laughed again. She grinned. She liked making him laugh. "I miss her."
"We're going to see her soon."
"Too bad our plane blew up."
"Too bad we can't use Kurt's power."
"Yep." There was an awkward pause.
"Let's ask him again because I don't want to walk all around Cairo." Scott followed her as she walked back to talk to Kurt.
"Riv! Hey!" Jean waved.
"Hey! Great job back there. You know, saving our lives." Jean shook her head.
"It's nothing. Anyways, meet Ororo Munroe. She's from Cairo actually." The other girl, Ororo, nodded curtly at River.
"Hi," she said.
"Welcome to the team," said River.
"We're a team now, huh?" Scott said, walking next to her.
"Sorta. Also, Kurt, not to be rude, but is there any way you can teleport us?" River asked. Kurt paused.
"I can take one or two people at a time, I think," he said. "I've gained enough energy." River whooped.
"What if we just start disappearing? Like to freak the adults out?" she whispered.
"Don't you think they've been through enough?" Jean asked.
"River, there will be no disappearing or pranking today," Charles said from the front.
"Stop reading my mind, Charles!"
"I'm not!"
"We can hear you guys," Raven said, looking a bit annoyed.
"Oh. Whoops," said River. All the adults turned around. It was evident that they had been listening the whole time.
"Can you take at least two people, Kurt?" Charles asked.
"I think even if we did find an airport, they'd kick us out," added Hank. Erik nodded.
"Especially when three of you are blue," he said. Kurt nodded, his tail swinging a little anxiously.
"I think so."
"We'll go first. Just in case," River volunteered, grabbing Scott's arm. "We can't afford to lose the professor or any of you adults."
"You won't die," Kurt said. "I promise."
"This is all against my will!" Scott said. Jean laughed.
"Come on, Summers," River grinned. She grabbed Kurt's arm, and Scott did the same. "See you all in New York!" They bamfed away and fell onto the lawn of the house. "Hey, it worked!" Kurt sat up and grinned.
"I'll be back," he said then teleported off. River stood up and looked around, her heart falling at the sight of the broken house. She had forgotten about that. There was a noise behind, and they turned to see Ororo and Jean. Kurt bamfed away again. Ororo seemed a little dazed because of the teleportation.
"Hey guys," Jean said, standing up and dusting herself off.
"RIVER!" River was tackled by a flash of yellow and pink.
"JUBILEE!" The two cousins hugged fiercely. "You're still here!"
"You're still alive!"
"I know!"
"Jean!" Jubilee got up to hug Jean. "You're alive too!" Jenan laughed. Jubilee released her and did a cartwheel. "Sorry, cartwheels are my natural response to exciting things. Scott!" She went over and hugged Scott.
"Hey, Jubilee," he grinned. Jubilee went back to hug River again.
"Where did you guys go? Where's Kurt? What happened? Did you guys hear about what happened in Cairo? Why're you in those outfits? You know that I had to babysit like ALL of the kids?! It was hell, but I'm still alive, don't worry. Where's the professor? And Hank? And Mystique? And..." River put her hand over Jubilee's mouth. "Riv!" she said, muffled.
"Calm down, Jubi. I'm just glad you're still here." She hugged the other girl one more time.
"Me too. Who's mohawk girl?" Jubilee stuck out her hand to Ororo. "Hi! I'm Jubilation Lee. Call me Jubilee." Ororo shook her hand, a little overwhelmed by the sudden energetic and friendly girl.
"Ororo Munroe. Nice to meet you."
"Love the hair and outfit!" Jubilee exclaimed as she looked at Ororo's suit. Ororo smiled.
"It's nice, but I want normal clothes again."
"Same. Except ours kinda blew up," River realized.
"No, we actually salvaged them from the wreckage," Charles said. The teens all jumped and saw that all the adults had been teleported as they were talking. Peter was missing, so River assumed he had been teleported to a hospital or something.
"Kurt!" Jubilee ran over and hugged Kurt, who looked a little exhausted.
"Hi Jubilee, good to see you," he said, blushing a bit. Jubilee was grinning like crazy.
"What do you mean, professor?" Jean asked. Hank put a box down.
"We actually left some of our stuff by Stryker's place instead of the plane. And then we went back just now really quickly and got it all," replied Hank. "It's mostly in here. Like Scott's jacket."
"My jacket survived!" Scott said happily. River laughed.
"Jubilee! Where are all the children?" Charles asked. He was sitting down on the grass.
"Guys, it's safe! The professor is back!" Jubilee shouted into the trees. Children slowly walked out from behind the shrubbery, and then ran over as they saw Charles. Some of them, the few older students, went to hug him.
"Hello, children," he said, smiling. He frowned a bit. "What happened to some of you? The group seems smaller."
"Most of the older kids went back home," explained Jubilee. "We thought you guys were never coming back. We didn't know what happened to you all."
"Well, we are officially back!" River announced. Jean laughed.
~ a day later ~
River walked up to Scott, who was smiling slightly with his arms crossed. He was wearing a blue dress shirt, tan pants, and a jean vest that actually looked ok with the whole outfit. Why are you thinking about these things, River?!
"Hey, Summers," she said. He turned around and stuffed his hands into his pockets.
"Hey, Riv," he grinned. "Look at what Hank is making for me!" He pulled out a paper with scribbles all over it. She looked over. It was drawing of a visor with just one red lense in it. There was knob and some buttons with various arrows.
"What is it?" she asked. Scott shrugged, and River took the paper, observing it more. "Something about controlling my eyes. Not completely sure."
"It only has one sense though," River said, looking more at the drawings.
"Well, I hope the kids don't call me Cyclops or anything," said Scott concerned. She grinned and handed the paper back. He folded it up, and they both looked back at the mansion.
"Well, I hope my posters and vinyls are ok," River said, even more concerned. Scott laughed.
"I'm sure they're fine. If not, we can buy more. At uh the mall. Maybe." He cleared his throat. She looked at him.
"You mean like, go to the record store? Together?" He nodded, now looking very nervous. She smiled. "Sounds great." River smiled to herself and looked at Jubilee, who was standing near Kurt.
Most of them had gone shopping or had found clothing in the rubble of the house, so they all had new clothes, especially the ones who had gone on the mission. They had crashed at a hotel Jubilee found nearby, and the staff there was a bit overwhelmed at all the children but Charles somehow had money. Then they went to some store for supplies (aka food), and now they were all back at the house, watching as Jean and Erik melded it together.
River saw Ororo go up to Peter, who had been bamfed to the hospital instead of the house. He had a cast that was signed all over by all the students. River had taken up a big portion of it by writing her name, making Jubilee mad.
Peter and Ororo had a small conversation, then both looked up at Erik. Peter had told River (when they visited him in the hospital earlier today to take him home) that he hadn't been able to tell Magneto that he was his son. It was a shame, but she respected his choice. Peter was also staying at the mansion, which was great news. Raven and Erik too.
"House's done!" Jean shouted.
"You all get your old rooms! No switching!" Hank said. He was back in human form. River smiled as some of the kids protested but failed. Scott and River walked up the gravel walkway to the brand new mansion.
"Well, I guess our lives are back to normal," he said. River nodded with a grin.
"Yeah, as normal as being a mutant gets. I heard Raven wants us to 'train.'" She put air quotes over the last word and made a face. Scott laughed.
"That'll be fun."
"Probably not."
"Want to go to the lake?" he asked. She grinned again.
"I think I missed that place almost as much as I missed Jubilee."
"That's cruel."
"Whatever, Summers."
