Today was the twins' first Halloween. I was so excited.
I looked at our stair well and saw my little bundles of joy with their daddy. They were so cute. Scott was a super hero called Gay Man. He had no shirt on, one of our gay flags around his neck, and white yoga pants with a rainbow thong on the outside. Ken was covered completely in light up stuff. He had lights on his legs, arms, his head, his entire body. Violet was cat. I was a gender bender Harley Quinn. I even dyed my hair, of course it was temp dye though. We walked down the street and ventured all over town.
We walked to the first house and took pictures and videos as Ken and Violet said,"trick or treat". My heart melted.
We had gone to about 10 houses when I realize I forgot my phone.
"Ken, sweetie. Can you go back home and grab mommy's phone?" I said bending down to his level.
"Okay, mommy. I be back soon." And he took off. With his lights on, he left a trail.
(Ken running down the road towards the house)
He came back about 3 seconds later with my phone.
"Thank you, honey bee." I chimed, kissing his forehead.
"You're welcome mommy." Ken replied. Violet and Ken continued for a little while until it got too dark. On the way home, we had to use Ken and our phones and light on the walk home. That was, until Violet took the the skies and Ken sped towards the house. Scott surprised me when he picked me up bridal style and we took off the ground. I lathed into him for dear life as he chuckled.
Once we landed we were met with a miniature night club and a floating cat, aka our kids. I unlocked the door and grabbed their candy bag.
"You can have one candy now, and you only get one each day."
"Aw man!" They all said. Even Scott had joined in. I looked at him with the "are you serious?!" face. He quickly stood and helped me get them under control.
Once they had given up on trying to change my mind, I have them their piece of candy and told them to brush their teeth and get ready for bed.
I was picking up the living room a little and telling Scott no about having more candy than the kids because he goes overboard.
"But why not?"
"Because, last time you had a lot of sugar, I couldn't walk for a week." I blushed with a serious face. Scott's far turned bright red as he continued to picked up stuff.
We went to bed super late and knew that we would regret letting the kids stay up late.
The next day...
Shit was ballistic. Things were floating around everywhere and quick flashes of color were moving around everywhere. I put my fingers to my temple and froze them. Ken was mid step and the momentum of him stopping so suddenly sent him doing flips into the couch. Violet was floating, so she fell to her own two feet when she froze, but the things that were floating dropped left and right. It was raining books and pens and magazines and pencils. A book fell onto her head with a funny thud. I know that I was a bad parent for laughing, but when shit's funny...it's funny. I unfroze them and smacked their hands. They cried and sat down to watch cartoons to calm down. I sighed with a feeling of guilt. I hate it when j have to be strict. I hate to admit it but, I think Scott's the fun dad and I'm the bossy mom here. Damnit, I told myself I wouldn't let this happen. So, I took a step into the unknown and decided to give them the candy. I threw it all in the middle and watched the blood bath unfold from behind a safe protector. They all five at once. Screams and yells filled the room as my family fought for sugar, I saw Ken moving faster than usual and Violet was picking up heavier shit. Don't let me get started on Scott. He was going haywire. Our entire cabinet of silver ware was moving throughout the house, and the car started to move off of the ground. I hid in the basement for about twenty minutes until I heard them calming down. I walked back up and saw the house was trashed.
Scott's POV...
We all thought one thing when we calmed down and heard Mitch walking up the stairs from the basement.
"He's gonna kill us" I told them to pick up as quickly as possible. Ken ran around and things started moving on their own back to their places.
I turned around and saw Mitch with his arms crossed and an eyebrow raised.
"Baby, I know you're mad. But...they did it." I lied, pointing to the kids.
"What?!" They said in an angry unison.
"They were running and throwing things. I tried to stop them, but..." I started, but stopped when I realized he wasn't buying it.
"You two," he said pointing to the twins", punishment for the rest of the day." His gaze met me and I suddenly got a brain freeze.
"You're forgiven now." He said before kissing my cheek and the brain freeze went away.
That night was very calm. I am in love with my family. I love my kids, my home, my job, my husband, and my life in general.
