Varian was returning to the castle and back to his lab for the first time in a month, his dad had to go on a trip and Varian wanted to tag along, mostly so he could collect things to do experiments on.

"Oh hey Varian!" Rapunzel greeted him.

"Hi princess," Varian replied.

"How was your trip with your dad?" She asked.

"Oh it was very strenuous, but at least I've got numerous items to do alchemical experiments on, infact, could you help me lug this crate back to my lab?" He said.

"That looks.. heavy- maybe I should get Eugene and Lance," Rapunzel said.

"The more people, the better," Varian responded.

{Time Skip}

Rapunzel returned with Eugene, Lance, and a girl that Varian didn't recognize.

"Rapunzel, who's this?" Varian asked.

"Oh! This is Y/n, she's a new lady in waiting, since Cass left for her trip, Y/n is here taking over her duty's. Sorry! I forgot to introduce her to you, Varian," Rapunzel explained. Y/n waved at Varian, and he waved back.

"Okay Goggles, how do you want us to carry this box inside?" Eugene said, getting impatient.

"Okay, so each of you hold one corner, and I'll open the doors so you don't crash into anything," Varian said.

"Sounds easy enough," Y/n replied, moving towards the crate, along with everyone else. Everyone picked up a corner of the box and started walking in sync to the door, Varian dashed over to the door and held it open.

Everything was going smoothly, until Varian decided to open the door blindy, not paying attention to what he was doing, looking straight at Y/n, that was not a great plan on Varian's end, he pushed the door too far and it swung open easier than expected, he fell flat on his face, and injured himself pretty badly. All he heard before he passed out was "Varian!" "Is he okay?" "It looks like he's about to black out" "Put the crate down! We gotta get him some help!" He could barely make out any voices, so he had no clue who said what.

{Time Skip}

Varian woke up in a bed, in a room he didn't really recognize. He then realized that something was touching his forehead, he looked to the direction of what was touching his forehead and his eyes were met with Y/n, who was gently putting a bandage on his head. His face went pink.

"Uh h-hi," he said.

"Hello," Y/n replied.

"What happened?" He asked.

"You kinda fell flat on your face and we rushed you to the medic." Y/n answered.

"O-oh," Varian's face went red after realizing he embarrassed himself. He started to try to get up.

"Be careful," she said. Y/n watched Varian carefully, as he slowly inched out of the bed to be able to stand on the floor. Y/n stood next to him, he got a bit wobbly and almost fell over, Y/n caught him and put him back on his feet.

{Time Skip}

It had been a few days now, Varian no longer had problems walking, and Y/n had gotten comfortable with Varian being there. Whenever Y/n was doing her chores, she always somehow bumps into Varian, it’s like he memorized her schedule just to pass by her. Y/n was out in the garden feeding birds and watering plants, little did she know that Varian was watching her from inside the castle. This plan of watching her was going fine and dandy, until..

“Hey Hairstripe! Whatcha doing?” Eugene came down the hallway.

“U-uh n-nothing!” Varian tried to play it cool. Eugene looked out the window Varian was looking out of.

“What’s so interesting about the gar- wait.. Is that Y/n in the garden? And do I see blush on your face?” Eugene put two and two together.

“N-no! I uh.. I-I’m not blushing! It’s just really hot in here!” Varian pretended to fan himself off.

“Uh huh, really Goggles, I can tell, you’re not fooling anyone.” Eugene said.

“Who’s not fooling who?” Rapunzel came over. Varian mentally rolled his eyes, as if things could get any worse,  Varian thought.

“Varian’s got himself a crush on Y/n, he’s been looking out this window watching her in the garden.” Eugene explained.

“Aw! That’s so cute! You two are perfect for each other!” Rapunzel said.

“Would you guys quit it?! She’ll hear you!” Varian said. (A/n: If you know where this line is from, you're the best)

“Aww Varian's worried his little crush will hear us, isn't that cute Eugene?” Rapunzel said.

“Yea it is, he’s worried that she’ll find out about his big crush on her!” Eugene said. Varian stood there in the corner with his face really red. Just then Y/n walked through the hallway.

“Who has a big crush on who?” she asked innocently. Rapunzel and Eugene were about to open their mouths, when Varian covered their mouths with his hand.

“I uh.. Max’s big crush on Fidella! He’s really heartbroken that Cass took her!” Varian awkwardly said.

“Oh! Yea I feel so bad, each time I head to the stable the poor guy looks sad.” Y/n replied. Y/n walked away, content with Varian’s answer. Varian took his hands off Eugene and Rapunzel’s mouths.

“Not another word you two.” Varian said, eyeing the both of them as Varian walked away, coincidentally the same direction that Y/n was going. Rapunzel and Eugene giggled in the distance, Varian rolled his eyes. Varian walked into his lab which just so happened to be in the same direction that Y/n had been walking, but when he walked into his lab, he saw Y/n standing there.

"Uh.. Hey," Varian said.

"Hey, the king told me I should clean your lab, but I don't want to wreck your stuff.. so.. can you help guide me so I don't wreck your stuff?" Y/n said.

"Oh, sure," Varian replied. They worked together to dust things off and organize. Varian was finishing organizing his chemicals while Y/n was cleaning things on his desk.

"What's this?" Y/n said, picking up a brown journal that had a leather strap on it to keep it closed, the leather strap had a tiny heart on it, it was barely noticeable unless you were purposefully looking for it.

"O-oh i-it's nothing," Varian replied.

"Oh if it's nothing should I throw it away?" Y/n asked.

"No! Just uh.. hand it to me, I'll organize it," Varian said. Nice save, he thought.

"So then it's important..? What is it? Important or nothing?" Y/n asked.

"I.. uh.. it's both," Varian said.

"What's in it anyway..?" Y/n said, Varian practically tripped while dashing to snatch it out of her hand.

"Oh! What's that?" Y/n said, Varian turned to look. Y/n grabbed the journal out of his hand.

"Hey! Gimme that!" Varian said, trying to get the book. The 'fight' resulted in a tickle fight, Y/n was winning and Varian was on the floor practically dying of laughter. He thought of something that might make her stop. Suddenly Y/n felt a pair of soft lips on hers, her eyes widened, and she slowly closed her eyes, embracing the moment. At this moment Varian slowly grabbed the journal out of her hand. Varian pulled away.

“You liked that didn’t you..?” Varian said, looking at a very flustered Y/n. Y/n’s face went red after what Varian said. She nodded.

“I kinda started to gain a crush on you ever since I saw you..” Y/n admitted.

“Me too, that’s kinda why I was hiding this from you,” Varian said, opening the journal, there were numerous doodles of Y/n, along with some attempts of alchemical equations, that resulted in Varian getting distracted and drawing Y/n again.

“Wow.. these are really good!” Y/n said, she booped Varian's nose. His nose was like a button that made him blush, Y/n giggled a bit. (A/n: my stinking auto correct wanted booped to be booked-)

"Can we try that kiss again, minus the mini fight?" Varian asked. Y/n nodded and they slowly leaned towards each other. Y/n wrapped her arms around Varian's neck and he wrapped his arms around her waist. Varian gently dipped Y/n, she almost fell over, but Varian caught her and brought her back up. Varian moved one of his arms and put his hand on the back of Y/n's head, she did the same, deepening the kiss. The butterflies ran rampant in their stomachs. They heard the door open, a gasp, and then a happy giggle.

"EUGENE!!! COME LOOK!!" Rapunzel said, running out into the hallway. They stopped for air, and then Y/n ran to the other side of the room, behind the door, so she wasn't noticeable, and Varian quickly put his goggles on and threw an explosive chemball on the ground, he then laid on the ground to make it believable. Within a few minutes they heard feet dashing to the door.

"All I see is Goggles passed out with an alchemical experiment, I don't see Y/n," Eugene pointed out. Rapunzel looked over and noticed Varian laying on the ground. She whispered something to Eugene and they walked out of the door. Varian opened his eyes to see if they were gone, he then ushered Y/n back over, and then they shared another kiss, they didn't need any words to say good teamwork, the embrace they shared said that on its own. They heard a series of aw's coming from the door. They quickly stopped the kiss and looked over at the door to see Cass, Rapunzel, Eugene and Lance all watching. Y/n looked over at Varian who was looking at the door with horror, and she booped his nose, his face went red, and he kissed Y/n's nose, making her turn red. Cass, Rapunzel, Eugene, and Lance all awed again. (A/n: Cass came back earlier and she had to come see this)

"You missed," Y/n said.

"What did I miss?" He asked. (A/n: Virginia my home sweet home I wanna give you a kiss! Sorry.. Hamilton reference)

"You missed!" Y/n replied, before happily kissing Varian on the lips. Varian was surprised at first, but soon started to melt into the embrace and kiss back. (A/n: Who knows the 'you missed' reference?)

A/n: So here's another one-shot, I know I said I'd be working on We'll Meet Again as well, but I haven't had much of a chance to do that, so I've been working on these, I had some plans for We'll Meet Again, but I'm trying to figure that out, so I swear when I figure it out, you guys will get a new We'll Meet Again chapter, until then, you can survive on one-shots!
