15. Roof

Renly Baratheon (age 18), District 2

**Here, have some fluff. Coming up next is the Bloodbath and I can assure you that at least one named character dies there. Sorry... Enjoy the happiness for now. Rated pg for mentions of sex and stuff, but as I said in the beginning, I don't write smut in my THG stories (especially gay smut lol o_o no offense). Anyway. enjoy/comment/vote haha; thanks~!!**

It's quiet out on the roof. Peaceful. Yesterday when Loras and I were up here, he told me that there were no cameras, no microphones, nothing to spy on us here. I like that. And I need something nice and quiet the night before the Hunger Games. The night before the arena... Just the thought makes my stomach lurch. I lean my elbows on the railing, and look out over the gradually darkening city. It could be considered beautiful.

The door of the roof opens behind me and I jump. But it's just Loras. I smile at him and he walks over to me quickly, reaching for my hand.

"Hey," he says huskily.

"Hey." I say back, and turn all the way around to kiss him. He eagerly kisses me back, his hands going to my waist and one going into my hair. I close my eyes and--it feels good. Tomorrow, in the arena...will we be allowed to do this? Fuck it: this time tomorrow will we both still be alive?!

He pulls away, frowning. "You're worried, aren't you?"

I sigh softly and sag against him. "A little."

He rubs the soft spot between my shoulder blades. "Don't be, Ren. We'll be okay. Trust me, okay?"

I smile and kiss his jaw. "I'll always trust you, love. But...tomorrow's the Bloodbath." My fears fall off my tongue before I can even try to stop them. "Tomorrow we could both be dead. Like, actually dead. With our throats cut and our guts spilling out and our eyes all bloody and missing--"

"You sure put a lot of thought into this." Loras says lightly, and I roll my eyes.

"You know what I mean." I take a deep breath, and take his hands in both of mine. "It's just...it's scary. I know we're supposed be all tough and stuff, and act like it doesn't matter, but--"

"But it does." he says softly. I nod and lean back into him, and we fall silent for awhile.

The lights of the city are truly beautiful. I hear noises of cars, and of people and music. The air's cool and it feels good and refreshing, especially blowing in my face like this. My eyes drift shut and I focus on the warmth of Loras next to me. Slowly, I feel myself calming down.

"Ren?" Loras whispers.

"Mm?"

"Seriously, don't worry, okay? You have me. I'll protect you." his grip tightens comfortably but this time I frown.

"But who's going to protect you then?" I whisper, and turn to face him again. He smiles a little sadly at me, brushes his fingers against my cheek so it just feels like the ghost of a feather. I shiver.

"I said don't worry, love. I can look after myself and you."

I roll my eyes. "I wish I could do it for myself..."

"I like doing it for you." he takes my hands and kisses them and I can't help but giggle. He grins.

"Lory?"

"Yeah?" he whispers, his lips an inch from mine.

"I love you." I lean in and brush my lips against his. I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him closer--Loras does the same to my waist. He slips his hands into the waistband of my pants and I interrupt the kiss with a gasp. His eyes flicker to mine.

"We-we can't." I mumble, my forehead against his. He laughs breathlessly.

"Are you a virgin?"

"Fuck no." I grin. Then I pause. "Why, are you?"

His blush tells me all I need to know. I touch his cheek gently. "Sorry, love..."

"It's okay. I don't care."

"When you win, you'll take care of that shortly." I say with a small smirk.

He rolls his eyes and sits down on the ground of the roof. "They'd just shove Capitol whores in my face, male and female alike."

"But you came out to them, on live tv." I sit next to him and take his hand again. "That was brave by the way."

Loras smiles and shrugs. "I dunno. My family already knows, so it doesn't really matter I guess. He just didn't stop bugging me--I didn't know what to say. It wasn't on purpose."

"My family doesn't know." I say in a small voice.

"Well, they will soon enough." he says. I frown questioningly. "I don't plan to give you up in the Games, you oaf."

I smile. "And I don't either, love." I peck his cheek and he smiles back. He's so beautiful... "If something happens to me tomorrow, Loras...promise me it won't effect you."

"Won't effect me?" he says sharply. "Of course it would!"

I wince. "But promise me it won't hurt you into...you know. Not trying to win."

"Nothing's going to happen to you, Renly." he says shortly.

"But if something does--"

He looks into my eyes deeply. "Tomorrow, during the Bloodbath, find me and we'll go to the Cornucopia, with Jeyne. Together. And I promise you, Ren--nothing will happen to you." he wraps his arms around me and pulls me to his chest. I'm safe; I trust him. "I promise you with my life."

x-X-x

Loras Tyrell (age 16), District 3

He drifts off and I watch him sleep against my shoulder; he looks calmer, less worried. But it's late and I know we'll be in huge trouble if anyone finds us out here (together and alone, sleeping, curled up like this). So regretfully, I shake him awake.

"Mm..." he mumbles sleepily. "What time is it...?"

"Late, love." I whisper. "It's time to go in now. I'll walk you back to the second floor, okay?"

"Okay..." he says, and smiles. I smile back and help him to stand up. He leans against me, still sleepy.

When we get to the second floor, I straighten his clothes--the ones he wore from the interviews--for him. It's an instinct; I remember doing it for Margaery when we were little, and that makes me sad. Not that I think of Renly like my little sister... Ah, forget it.

"Do you want me to come in?" I say. His sleepy eyes twinkle and I blush. "No, you said yourself we--"

"I'm joking, love, relax." he smiles and leans against the wall, closing his eyes. "I want you to come in my suite and meet my district partner. Get it? Instead of parents..." He giggles.

"Okay, okay. You go in now. Do you have a key or something?" He holds up a room key and I nod. "Good. I love you. I'll see you tomorrow."

"Wait. Loras." He opens his eyes. "Kiss me."

"Gladly." I smile and press my lips to his. He relaxes in my arms and I comb a hand through his hair lovingly. "I love you...so much."

"I love you too." he whispers. "And I trust you. So you don't worry either."

I nod a little shakily. "Okay. You have to go to bed. Before someone sees us."

He grins. "Good night, my knight in shining armor."

He opens the door and disappears inside. I wait until the light goes off.

"Good night, my darling prince." I whisper.
