Author's Note
This is a book in work in progress, so if you are reading it and looking forward to the next chapter, it will come; it might just take a while, as with most of my books.
Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett inspire this book, and I didn't want to break the fourth wall, but there are tiny bits that do seem to break the fourth wall. I had a lot of fun writing this and enjoyed the style. I might adopt this kind of style for future stories.
If you don't want to be bombarded by backstory on how my Universe was invented, you don't need to read the Pantheon, but I did put effort into it, so if you would like to, you can, but it isn't a necessity for the rest of the story if you'd like to skip it.
I do hope that you're going to enjoy this book. I have been working hard to write this, actually - I managed to write 20K in a week, because the words just kept rolling. So the new chapter update day for this will be Monday. I hope this will keep coming. I have complete faith in this story continuing, but as always, we will see - if you know, you know, XD.
The main inspiration of this story is a mix of Sandman on Netflix and the Little Nightmares game franchise (I am so incredibly excited for Little Nightmares III), but even though this book originally was written for ONC, it failed miserably and didn't have any work done, until I started playing Little Nightmares II when I got the inspiration to start writing this book again, and then came me reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman and so begun the ideas just rolling off me in this new creative writing style.
I have never read Terry Pratchett, but I have been told his style is similar to, so I am just putting that out there. That said, this isn't a direct copy of any of their works; it is an original story from my mind. So below, you will find my disclaimer;
By opening this story, you, the Reader, hereby acknowledge and accept that all characters, events, and settings are entirely fictional. Any resemblance to actual persons, living or dead, or to actual events, past or present, is purely coincidental. You have chosen to step into a world that is not entirely yours, a world where shadows flee freely and whispers linger.
The writer advises caution while reading. Not all Gods and Goddesses are kind and just. The pages of this book contain... well, it's a secret. But I can tell you there are demons—some good, some delightfully not. I cannot accept responsibility if you feel the sudden urge to summon your own book from the underworld (though I suggest you don't—it's very messy). Nor for wishing for a devilish companion, lighting candles for unexplained reasons, or how many mugs of coffee, tea, or hot chocolate you devour while reading. And if you don't drink tea, coffee, or hot chocolate... what are you drinking? And if not from a mug... your hands!?
If you have a friend named Elowen, ensure they are trained in humanity and kindness. If you have a friend called Atlas, check thoroughly that they are not a hidden God, scheming to drag you on adventures you never agreed to.
Warning: Should a three-headed cheeky Labrador appear in your room, do not hesitate. Run. It is never a good sign. If fleeing is not an option, throw it a treat—but only if it happens to be Underworld Popcorn (and I hope for your sake, it is not).
So, buckle up, Ladies and Gentlemen, and members of The Between. You are now entering the Kingdom of Ravenscreg, and the Crown of Gold Desire awaits. There will be shadows, sparks, laughter, and maybe a pinch of terror. Keep your arms and legs inside the carriage at all times, and your box of Underworld Popcorn on your person. Should you hear your name whispered in the dark... don't follow the sound.
Best of luck!
Flo.
