Chapter Three
She flashed me into a room and immediately left. I looked around to see all of my stuff (which was very little), packed in a bag that sat on the bed next to me. I walked to the window and looked out. I suddenly knew that I was in The Leaky Cauldron, inside Diagon Alley. I smiled bitterly to myself and looked for a room key. Luckily, it was just sitting there on the nightstand. I concealed my aura to keep my demigod status on the down low. I then walked out, and locked the door behind me, silently casting an extra locking spell so no one could get in with a simple 'alohomora' spell.
I walked toward the exit sign, not knowing where the stairs were, and then down to the main floor that doubled as a pub. I walked to the man standing behind the counter. He looked at me and his eyes lit up. "Harry Potter! It's great to see ya again! Come, come, what is it that ya need?" I smiled nervously when he called me by my twin's name. "I'm sorry Sir, my name is Percy Jackson. Is this Harry an important person here?" He looked at me quizzically, and then I saw it click in his eyes. "Oh! I'm sorry. You look quite like him, and yes. He is The Boy Who Lived! I thought everyone in the Wizard community knew a' him?" I rubbed my neck sheepishly. "Yeah, about that, I was just introduced to the magic world a couple weeks ago, and I still haven't caught up with the times." That was a lie. I had been introduced harshly, and when I was young. I just didn't live in it my whole life. I also knew exactly who Harry was, and what he did, much to my dismay. "That's ok lad, the name's Tom. I've been told ta be a good storyteller. Would ya like for me to give ya a crash course in the last couple a years?" I shake my head. "Nah, it's ok. Maybe later though, I need to get my school supplies for this year. Bye Tom, thanks for the talk!" I yell over my shoulder as I walk to the back alley and pressing the bricks in the special pattern with Riptide (in pen form), it is a magical item after all.
I walked around, thinking of what I should do first. I decided to head to Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions. I opened the door and was immediately assaulted with flying sewing tools. Miss Malkin herself welcomed me. "Hello! Who is my next customer?" I smiled lightly. "Hello. My name is Percy Jackson. I would like some new regular robes for Hogwarts, please." She looked me up and down. "Stand on this please." I obliged and stood as she directed. As Madam made my robes, I thought about the order my schedule should be for today. I think I should do Ollivander's Wand Shop next, then Flourish and Blotts, Broomstix, Obscurus Books, Potage's Cauldron Shop, Scribbulus Writing Instruments, Slug & Jiggers Apothecary, and, finally, Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour. I would be carrying a lot today. Good thing I knew how to use a lot of spells that would help me with these types of things. "Four regular robes, correct Mr. Jackson?" I nodded. "Then that'll be ten sickles." I nodded and reached in my pocket, into my pouch and grabbed a drachma. "A close friend told me that this would be enough. I don't know how it would transfer over though. Can you tell me? As you have probably already deduced, I am still a little new to the whole wizarding world." I smiled sheepishly. She took the coin from my hand and examined it. "A drachma! You have a drachma! This is nearly priceless!" She looked at me with wide eyes and took a deep breath to calm down. "Ok. This is worth fifty-eight galleons. I'm assuming you know the rest of the currency?" I nodded my head. "Yes. Thank you. I had no idea that these were worth this much." I started making calculations in my head. One drachma equals fifty-eight galleons which equals..... Nine hundred and eighty-six sickles, which equals..... Twenty-eight thousand, five hundred and ninety-four knuts. Wow.... That's a lot... "Mr. Jackson?" I snapped out of my thoughts and looked at Madam Malkin. "Can I have ten sickles please? I haven't got all day." I smirked, a little of my sassiness coming back. "Here." I pushed the drachma back into her hand, that she had outstretched and I grabbed my robes and strolled out before she could do anything about it.
I knew that none of the other stores would except my money, they were to modest, so I decided to go to Gringotts before rumors spread and things got out of control. I strolled into the bank, only stopping to admire the warning message carved beautifully into the doors.
Enter, stranger, but take heed
Of what awaits the sin of greed
For those who take, but do not earn,
Must pay most dearly in their turn.
So if you seek beneath our floors
A treasure that was never yours,
Thief, you have been warned, beware
Of finding more than treasure there.
I spotted the goblins for the first time and didn't even break my stride. I walked up to the main desk and looked at the main goblin, not even noticing my voice change into goblin, which had been installed in my brain by Hecate's blessing, I started talking to the receptionist. "Hello sir. I am here to exchange some drachmas for sickles, galleons, and knuts. Do you know where I can have this done?" The goblin looked at me in awe. "You know gobbledygook?" I scrunched my brow, confused. "What do you.... Oh. I'm speaking gobbledygook now aren't I?" He nodded his head with a 'duh' expression in his little green face. I mentally face palmed. "I'm sorry. I guess I just slipped into that tongue when I saw you and registered what language you speak. Do you speak English?" I smiled sheepishly, not having to hide my sadness. "Yes. We all learned to speak English when we signed up for this job. Usually wizards don't now our language so we have to speak in their's." I frowned. "Oh... Well, would you be able to help me transfer these drachmas to normally seen wizarding money?" His eyes widened. "You have drachmas?!" I nodded my head hastily. "Yes. Please keep it down, I don't want everyone to know." He nodded his head, noticing his mistake. "Yes, of course. I'm sorry, I was just surprised, is all. Would you like to start a bank account or just transfer your money?" I thought about it for a few moments. Hmmmm.... I could either carry my money with me and have it cause sound, or I can keep it safe in a vault.... Vault it is! "If I could create a bank account, that'd be great, thank you." He motioned for me to follow him and I did obediently.
We walked down a series of halls, past some tracks that led goblins and wizards to their vaults, I'm assuming. The goblin took my DNA and dribbled it on a key, only for it to flash blue and a number to be inscribed on it. The goblin gasped and I became alert. "What's wrong? What happened?" He looked at me with wide eyes. "You never told me that you were a Potter." I looked at him confused. "How did you know?" He gave me a condescending look. "A vault was going to be created with your DNA, but you already have a vault in your name, so this key is now another way to get into number 687." I smiled sheepishly at him. "Yeah.... I'm Harry's twin. We were kinda.... separated a little bit after the... Voldemort incident." He looked at me, eyes wide. "Don't speak his name! But does that mean you also have the chosen one's scar?" I nodded, lifting my glamour and hair. "Ahh, a glamour spell. A good choice if you wish to stay hidden. I applaud you on the mastery. I also offer my condolences. It is said that the most painful thing is to be separated from your twin." I nodded in acknowledgement. "Yes, it truly is painful." We both looked down for a few moments before he shook his head. "Well, I have a job to do, so let's get things moving. How about we drop off your drachmas at your vault and then you can take as much money as you wish from there?" I nodded and he led me to a parked miner's cart and hopped in. Preparing myself for a dangerous ride, I buckled down (not literally) and awaited surprise drops.
It was good that I prepared for them, because if I didn't, I think I might have hurled up blood (not having any food in my system). When we approached my vault, I was surprised to see a huge wrought-iron door full of nails, screws, and I could see enchantments on them too. As we pulled to a stop, the goblin jumped or and waited for me. I took a deep breath and climbed out, following the goblin to my vault door. He placed the key in the lock and let go, backing away. The key glowed for a second and then slowly turned in a one-eighty. There was an ominous click and then the door swung open silently. I approached the vast opening at the urgency of the goblin and my mouth dropped.
I looked in and there was piles of gold coins with silver and bronze coins scattered in every pile, and each pile reached to about my shoulders, while I was six foot four, so the piles were high. I couldn't even see the end of the vault, so I didn't even know how many piles there were. Harry and I had raked up a fortune. Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. This was our inheritance from our parents. The parents Voldemort killed. The very man that got resurrected because I couldn't close the Doors of Death fast enough. My eyes got slightly glassy, but I made sure to not let them out. I had already cried enough. It was time for me to be strong. I just had to find my twin and we would get through everything together from then on.
I quickly looked around, trying to find something to put my money in, but when I realized that all I had were the pockets in my robes that I was still holding, and the pockets in my pants. Then I realized that I had magic. I grabbed my beaded necklace that I never went anywhere without, and chanted a few spells as I held the beads. They glowed for a second and then it faded, leaving behind the same beads, except now, I can grab one and open up a little space pocket where I can put money and other things with the hassle of holding everything. I quickly focused on the Golden Fleece bead and the robes. The robes slowly disappeared, and I knew it would get better with practice. I then empties out all of my pockets of drachmas. I quickly counted them and realized that I had a total of forty drachmas.
I placed them in a corner next to a cool-looking octagonal pendant. It had a raven, a badger, a snake, and a spider on it, but I wanted to see what was on the inside. Feeling curious, I grabbed it, but before I could open it, the goblin stuck his head inside the vault. "Hurry up, please. I must get back to my job." I nodded my head, slipping the pendant onto my neck, next to my CHB necklace. I quickly picked up five galleons, twenty sickles, and ten knuts, wanting a few of them all for my purchases. I walked out of the vault, (I don't know how large Harry's was in the movie, and I want them to seem super rich {plus now there are two, not one} so deal 😉) and hopped into the miner's cart as the goblin took out the key and the door swung shut. He handed me the key, and I made it disappear into my labyrinth bead. The goblin once more hopped into the cart and we were off. The cart ride was silent, as neither of us had anything to say, and then my ADHD started acting up again. My leg started bouncing and my hands started to wring themselves together. Sadly, I did not know that my leg had been brushing up on the goblin every time it made it's assent. "Could you please stop moving? I am trying to navigate these tracks, thank you very much." I sighed. "Sorry sir, I have ADHD, and I find it hard to stay still." He nodded in acceptance and I pushed off my ire. He was just doing his job and I was holding him up, it's fair.
Once we reached the surface, I climbed out of the cart and stretched. "Thank you for your help sir. But... Ah, I never got your name?" I looked at the goblin curiously. "It's Hephendorf. If you ever need any help just ask one of the goblins that works heed my name, and they will lead you to me." I nodded in thanks. "See you later Hephendorf." I walked out of the building and was happy when the Suns' rays finally hit my skin again. I was still curious about the necklace that I found in our vault, so I decided to go to Florean Fortescue's Ice Cream Parlour earlier than expected. I ordered a blueberry ice cream as soon a s I got there, and then sat down in a booth, taking off the necklace. I looked at it and finally figured out how to open it. It came open with a little force and what I saw inside nearly made me cry. On one side of the pendant, my mother was sitting regally with her head held high. I brushed my finger down the picture and I saw it move. My mother's eyes held tears as she looked at me. Oh, I forgot that pictures can move. "Percy. Oh, my boy, you finally found us. I'm so happy that you are alive. How are you, how is Harry?" (I know that the pictures taken from before move, but only based upon how the person had moved during this time, but I am pretending that these pictures hold a tiny shred of Percy and Harry's parents' souls in them so they can talk. All part of the plot {even tho I didn't make one}) At those words, my eyes grew glassy as well. "I don't know mum. Harry and I were separated a bit after you died. I didn't even know he was alive until I heard of his quests from a friend of mine. I grew up in a different world, Mum. I grew up with Greek gods, and Harry was stuck here, in the world in which you had been killed. I don't even know where he is Mum." She cooed at me. "Percy, honey. Don't worry, I'm sure he is fine. James and I both were strong and brave when we were young. But what did you say about Greek gods, Percy? Why did you grow up with them?" I wiped my tears and took a deep breath. "My guess is that I was adopted by the god Poseidon after the incident. I have no idea why, but that doesn't matter. I will find Harry and protect him from the muggle, demigod, and wizard worlds. He's my little twin after all." I tried to work some courage into my heart, for Harry. "Oh, my dear, can you tell me of what happened? I can see the broken look in your eyes. I can tell you are close to shattering. What happened? Who made you this way?" I sighed, a small, but real, smile forming on my face.
"Well, you would never want to be a demigod. It all started the day.... (As I have said before, I am lazy. If you wish to know all about Percy's life, go read the PJO series again, but I will add a little something.) So when the gods tell my stories, they always simplify it like this.
Don't believe half of what the gods will tell you. They all exaggerate everything. But, it was all my fault Mum. I could have saved all of the demigods, but I let them die. All nine hundred and seventy-three of them. I remember them all Mum. I know every face, every name, every way they died. It's all burned into my memory, just like everything else. I'm Hyperthymesic. I remember everything Mum. I remember your lifeless eyes and the face of that horrid man. I remember the sound of him chanting the killing curse. I remember Harry, shivering in my arms as he tired to stop the tears. I can't forget. I just can't, and it's slowly killing me. I have nightmares every night of what happened in hell. He always comes and tortures me, or I have a flashback of the wars, or your death day. I can never sleep peacefully. I can't even eat. I have to use a glamour to make myself look healthy. I just can't do it Mum." I look down, trying to keep the tears at bay, soft whimpers escaping my mouth. I had cast a shielding spell around me before I had started with the pendant, and now I'm glad I did. "It's ok Son." I heard a male voice join in.
I looked down at the locket and saw Dad on the other side. "Dad... Were you listening the whole time?" I'm worried about what he's going to say. Would he be disappointed in me for not sticking by Harry's side? Would he be mad that I let all of the demigods die? "Son, I heard it all. I am proud of you. There is no need to worry. As Lily said before. I am sure that Harry is fine. But you, my son, you have gone through so much and no one was there for you. I feel mad at myself for being unable to protect you." I looked at him sharply. "No. Dad, I love you no matter what. But I would have never wanted you to encounter my world. It is not for the faint at heart. You have to be fast, quick on your feet, athletic, brave, witty, and several others just to last long enough to reach your fourteenth birthday. Hell, it was a blessing when I reached sixteen! I wouldn't want you, or anyone to have to got through what I did. So please, just be a great dad and greet your son." I smiled slightly, my eyes still watering. "I think I can handle that just fine. Hello Son. It is fantastic to finally an able to see the young man you have grown up to be. But, I understand that you have heard of what Harry has done. May you please tell us?" I nodded. "After the incident, Albus Dumbledoor.... (Again, lazy that is me. Read HP if you wish to know what I am going to say (but will not say), deal 😈) and then he decided to go to Hogwarts for a redo of his seventh year." I said with sadness, my mood dropping at incredible rates. "My sons! What have I done! If only I could have been there to protect you! You both! You have both had terrible lives and hard trials. Why must your fates be so twisted?" Mum was bawling while Dad had his head between his hands, looking at his legs. I tried to console Mum. "Don't worry Mum. We are fine now. I have met you, and now it is time for you to meet Harry. I will just have to find him. I will see you soon." Mum and Dad said their goodbyes and air kissed me. I put the pendant back on my neck, and stood up, my blueberry ice cream forgotten. I sighed and threw it away, starting my walk to Ollivander's.
By now, people were coming and I got plenty of stares. I didn't know why, so I just brushed it off, continuing on my way to Olli's. (Ollivander's is too long and a mouthful, I like Olli's, plain and simple) Once I entered the shop, I got the feeling of old and musty. There were boxes upon boxes stacked on shelves all around the room, and I couldn't find the owner, most likely to be Olli. "Olli? Excuse me? Is anyone here?" I heard wheels turning and soon an old man on a ladder came wheeling by on the shelves. "So you must be my next customer. A bit too old to be getting his first wand. Is that what you are doing, Potter Look-A-Like?" I blushed a bit. "Yes, this is my first wand. I was introduced to this world a bit late, and never got one. Could you help me get one Olli?" He chuckled and climbs down the ladder. "Alright Percy. Stick out your arms, I need your measurements." I complied, slightly suspicious of he man that knew my name was Percy. "Alright. I'll be right back." I waited for a few moments as the man whizzed off, and then came back with boxes pulled up above his head. He set them down gently and took the box off of the top. He opened the lid and urged me to grab it, and I waved the wand, already knowing what was suppose to happen. A shelf was knocked over by the wand and I gently placed it back in its case. "So not that one.... Hmmmmm......." He started muttering to himself while I tried out wand after wand, more destruction coming to the building as I waved them. Once I had tried almost every wand in the shop, I was afraid it would collapse. "Well, I haven't had such a tricky customer in..... Well, I've never had a tricky customer. You'd be the first, Percy. You're in luck, though. I have one more wand left. It's a special one that I crafted myself, taking me years to create. Follow me." I cautiously obeyed, following the old man farther into the destruction. As we neared the back, I could see a faint glow start to leak through a door. I felt drawn to it, curious. "Ah, you feel the pull, do you not?" I nodded, staring at the light as we moved forward. He opened the door with a special key, and when I saw what was inside, I nearly died of shock.
In the room sat a box, opened and just laying there. Inside was the most beautiful thing I had seen in all of my life. The wand itself was a mix of metal and driftwood, making a beautiful combination. The grip was made of metal, quite like the hilt of a sword, but not exactly. Then it slowly melted to driftwood and ended with a smooth point. There were little metal swoops near the bottom of the wand itself, giving it a wave-like design. There were four gems instilled in the base of the grip, one yellow, one green, one blue, and one red. I gently picked it up, and gave it a wave. Olli was knocked backwards as a shockwave tore through the store. Everything re-righted itself, and the wands were back on the shelf. Olli came walking back in, dusting himself off. "Ahh, it seems to have chosen you. It is a magnificent work of art. Silver and driftwood combined with a surprising four cores, one being a scale from a hippocampus, the last of its kind to be exact, one being a shared piece of fur, from the legendary Nemean Lion, it's twin core being inside of Harry Potter's wand, one being a fang given freely by a snake, the twin core being in He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named's wand, and one being the last flicker of flame from the almighty king of dragons, Draco, also given freely. It is a very powerful wand, for a very powerful person. Except that means that it comes with a high price. Two drachmas please." I nodded, completely understanding the situation. I imagined having two drachmas in my hand and they appeared in a small flash of light. I handed them to Olli. "This really is a special wand. I can feel it's power, and I understand your payment method. Thank you for helping me, Olli." I shook his hand and walked out with my new wand, but not before he said one last thing. "Good luck on your journey Percy Potter." I swung my head around at this, but he had already shut the door and turned the sign to say that it was closed, or at least I though, I couldn't read it with my dyslexia.
The rest of the day went by normally. I went to all of the stores and got my things, but as I was leaving Apothecary, my amulet started to burn. I recoiled at this, and took a few steps back. I noticed that the burn leased as I stepped backwards, so I continually walked back until I felt it heat up agin. I looked to where it was when I want getting burned and saw a shop, but I couldn't read want it said. It could have been Gamalic Erinemage, but by the position of the shop, it would be Magical Menagerie. I walked closer to the store, and the amulet didn't react. Thinking this was where I should go, according to the amulet, I walked into the shop and stopped in my tracks. I knew we were allowed a cat, owl, or snake, but this could be pushing it a bit. A chimera of a special kind was sitting in a cage near the back of the store. I walked closer and inspected it. It was a chimera, but instead of a dragon head, it had a raven's and instead of a goat head, it had a badger's. It seemed to have been sleeping, but when I approached, it looked at me and then my necklace. 'Master. You have found me. Thank you.' I looked around surprised, but looked back at the chimera, confused. 'Me? Were you the one that spoke to me?' It nodded its head. I sighed, oh well, it is a cat. I smiled slightly. 'Why am I your master?' Already resigned to my fate, I just wanted more answers. 'You are the one wearing the symbol of everything. So I, the embodiment of everything, am yours. Lucky for you, I can change forms. And I can see your suspicion, let me put you at ease.' The chimera knelt on one paw. Each head looking down, they spoke in unison. 'I, Gizar Huffleclaw, hereby pledge myself to Percy Potter, my Master. I shall protect him from anything and everything. I will help him in any way possible and always follow his orders. Should he agree to this contract, I will be his loyal and undying servant forever.' My eyes were wide at his proclamations, but as it was tradition. I put my fist to my chest, head also down. 'I, Percy Potter, humbly except Gizar Huffleclaw's proposal. May we be bound together, forever.' With that, I felt us connect, and I knew his whole life, as he probably already knew mine. I scooped him out of his cage and walked to the front desk. "I would like to purchase this one please." I said politely, putting Gizar in front of the lady behind the desk. She nodded, slightly scared and asked for my payment in a shy voice. I handed her five sickles and a galleon and she put them in her little pouch. "Would you like anything else with your purchase, Sir?" She looked up, red in the face.(THIRD POV~ She must be deeply scared by Gizar was Percy's thought process. He may be smart, but he was still daft when it came to girls.) "No. Thank you Ma'am. Good bye." I walked out, Gizar quickly changing into a small golden cat, nestling around my neck. I smiled, petting him as I walked towards the Leaky Cauldron, wanting to get inside before the place closed.
