Chapter 24

(Y/N)'s POV
Once Atlas said those words, I saw Percy look at him and then at Zoe, as if he could see the family resemblance.

"Let Artemis go." Zoe demanded.

Atlas walked towards the chained goddess.

"Perhaps you'd like to take the sky for her, then? Be my guest." He said.

The Huntress opened her mouth to say something, but Artemis protested.

"No! Do not offer, Zoe! I forbid you." The goddess said.

Atlas chuckled darkly as he knelt next to Artemis. He tried to touch her face, but the goddess almost bit his fingers off.

"You see, daughter?" Atlas said. "Lady Artemis likes her new job. I think I will have all the Olympians take turns carrying my burden, once Lord Kronos rules again, and this is the center of our palace. It will teach those weaklings some humility."

I was staring at Artemis, feeling sorry for her, but those feelings were pushed aside when the voice of Kronos was heard in my head.

"Do not get distracted now, (Y/N) Solace. Your time to get rid of Percy Jackson is near."

I looked back at Percy Jackson. His sea green eyes were staring at me. His lips were parted as if he wanted to say something to me. Probably some lie.

Percy's POV
(Y/N) stared right back at me. I wanted to go up to her and hug her, telling her I'm sorry that I let her down and that it's all my fault she's in this mess.

But I couldn't, at least not right now. She's still under the control of Kronos, and knowing Kronos he must have manipulated (Y/N) into believing that we're the enemy.

"(Y/N) held the sky, didn't she?" Thalia asked.

I nodded still keeping my eyes on her.

"The weight should've killed her."

"I don't understand." I said. "Why can't Artemis just let go of the sky?"

Atlas laughed.

"How little you understand, young one. This is the point where the sky and the earth first met, where Ouranos and Gaea first brought forth their mighty children, the Titans. The sky still yearns to embrace the earth. Someone must hold it at bay, or else it would crush down upon this place, instantly flattening the mountain and everything within a hundred leagues. Once you have taken the burden, there is no escape. Unless someone else takes it from you. "

I remembered the dream when (Y/N) helped Luke carried the sky. Then how Artemis offered to carry the sky for (Y/N). All of them were willing to hold the burden of holding the sky for others, the people they care about, except for Luke who just cares for himself. But (Y/N) cared for Luke just as how Artemis cared for her, and now Zoe was willing to do the same for the goddess.

"So these are the best heroes of the age, eh? Not much of a challenge" Atlas scoffed as he looked at me and Thalia.

"Fight us and let's see." I said.

Atlas only rolled his eyes.

"You should know the Ancient Laws, demigod." Atlas sneered. "No immortal can fight directly to a mortal. It is beneath our dignity. But don't worry, someone else will take care of you."

"So you're another coward." I said.

"It takes a coward to know another coward." (Y/N) retorted as she glared at me.

Ouch that hurt.

"As I said before, I will not kill you. Believe me I would love to kill you, but I'm afraid those aren't my orders." He then motioned towards (Y/N). "You're little girlfriend will finish you off."

(Y/N) glared at him.

"I'm not his girlfriend." She spat.

Double ouch.

Atlas turned his attention towards Thalia.

"As for you, daughter of Zeus, it seems Luke and (Y/N) was wrong about you."

"We weren't wrong." (Y/N) and Luke protested at the same time.

They both looked at Thalia, desperation in their eyes.

"Thalia, you can still join us. Just call the Ophiotaurus. It will come to you. Look!" Luke said.

He then waved his hand, and next to us pool of water appeared, big enough to fit the Ophiotaurus. I imagined Bessie in that pool. Actually the more I think about Bessie, the more I was sure I could hear her mooing.

'Don't think about him!' Grover's panicked voice came through our empathy link. 'I'm losing Bessie. Block the thoughts!'

I thought about other stuff. Basketball players, skateboards, the blue candy in my mom's shop. Anything but Bessie.

"Thalia." (Y/N) said. "Please. Call the Ophiotaurus."

"You can be more powerful than the gods." Luke said.

"Luke...(Y/N)." Thalia said, her voice full of pain. "What happened to you? To the both of you?"

"Don't you remember all those times we talked? All those times we cursed the gods? Our fathers have done nothing for us. They have no right to rule the world!" Luke said.

Thalia shook her head.

"Thalia please join us. If you do, we could convince Annabeth and Will to join too, maybe we could even convince Grover. It can be like old times. The six of us together again. Fighting for a better world." (Y/N) said.

(Y/N)'s voice...Something about it was so...convincing. For a second, I started to believe in her words.

"A better world..." Thalia repeated.

"Please, Thalia, if you don't agree..." His voice faltered. "It's my last chance. He will use the other way if you don't agree. Please." Luke pleaded.

I didn't know what he meant by that, but the fear in his voice sounded so real to be a lie. I believed he was in danger as well as (Y/N). Their lives depended on Thalia's choice.

Luke waved his hand again and a fire appeared. It looked just like the fire at Camp Half-Blood-a sacrificial flame.

"Thalia, no." I said.

The golden sarcophagus began to glow. (Y/N) started to wince a little. Luke noticed this so he placed his hand on her shoulder, and gave her a reassuring smile, making me angry.

"We will rise Mount Othrys right here," Luke promised. "It will be stronger and greater than Olympus, once more."

As the glow from Kronos's sarcophagus grew brighter, I could of swore the broken columns and statues were starting to rebuild itself. I shook that thought out of my head. It's just the Mist playing tricks on me.

(Y/N) stepped forward until she was in front of Thalia. She merely glanced at me, but I still kept my eyes on her. (Y/N) took hold of Thalia's hands.

"Look, Thalia. We aren't weak." (Y/N) then motioned towards the ocean.

We looked and saw that an army of monsters were marching up the side of the mountain. There were Laestrygonians, hell hounds, harpies, half-bloods, and other kinds of monsters that I don't even know what to name, and there were still more coming from the Princess Andromeda. They would be here in a few minutes.

"This is only a taste of what is to come." Luke said. "Soon we'll be ready to storm Camp Half-Blood."

"And after that, Olympus itself. But we need your help." (Y/N) said. "Please...we could be a family again..."

There was a terrible moment of silence. Her eyes looked like she wanted to cry right then and there. She looked at Luke first then at (Y/N). She closed her eyes tightly, and then opened them again. She stared at (Y/N) before releasing her hands from (Y/N)'s grip.

"I'm sorry, (Y/N), but I won't join." Thalia whispered. "And I know that you didn't want to join either. This is not you."

(Y/N) frowned as Thalia looked at Luke.

"And you Luke, I don't know you anymore. You aren't the Luke I once knew. I can't believe you did this to her."

"Yes, you do, Thalia. Please, don't make me...Don't make him destroy you. And I only did this to protect her." Luke pleaded.

(Y/N) looked at Thalia with one last look of sympathy before walking back towards Luke and Atlas. I could see a tear slide down her cheek before she wiped it away.

I glanced back at the monster army that was slowly coming towards us. We had no time. If that army got to the top of the hill, we would be overwhelmed.

I looked at Thalia and Zoe. Both of them had their weapons ready. I looked at (Y/N). She stared right back at me, with determination in her golden eyes. Her hand was on her sword. She knew what I was thinking. I looked at Riptide, the same sword I used to fight against monsters, and now I had to use it in battle against my girlfriend. I looked in front of me. We had to do this.

"Now." I said.

Together, we charged.
