The Mission to Drommaund Kaas
Alec and Jason were waiting for me at the front of our main Venator-class star cruiser at the loading bay. But they weren't alone.
Next to them were the rest of our team - the guys who we have grown use to over the years when working together. Because of the quests we've been on, we had been proclaimed as the best team to handle any situation in the Outer Rim territories.
Standing with hands on her hips and in her traditional brown and pale grey Jedi robes was Bastilla Shan, another hero of the Jedi Order next to me and Jason. She had joined us in helping us during the Mandalorion Wars, earning her place as a member of the Prodigal Knights. Her long dark brown hair was styled up in her trademark ponytail and bun, and her lightsaber was clipped securely to her belt. When she saw me, she smiled kindly and her eyes shone.
Next to her was our little astromech droid who we received from one of our missions - R2D2, a blue and silver bucket of pure joy and fun when talking to, but can be serious in most technical problems. The little guy whistled in hello when seeing me.
Next to Jason was our battle assassin droid - HK47, a rusty red brown droid that happens to be way too homicidal. He moves his heads with jerk like movements, which made it look as if he's flinching all the time; plus, he always keeps his trusty ion blaster attached to his back. He bowed stiffly when I came forward.
Next to Alec were two others - a Wookie named Zaalbar and a Twi' lak named Mission. Me and Jason met these two back on the city planet Taris four years ago, when we were on a scouting mission to find and apprehend a known gangster. We managed to free these two and because of this, they had sworn a life dept to us. When coming forward, Zaalbar barked in greeting and Mission smiled widely.
"Revan!" Mission exclaimed in excitement, running forward and throwing her arms around me. Her two head tails were blue and her eyes were a bright brown, and in them I saw the playful light they cast. It made me kind've sad because it reminded me of Annabeth a little.
I hugged Mission back. She was like a little sister to me - which is true because she was only fourteen years old as it is. "Hey, Mission. You ready for this?"
She nodded her head enthusiastically.
I turned my head to Zaalbar, who Mission calls Big Z. "Hey about you, big guy? Ready for another quest of Wookie awesomeness?"
Zaalbar just gave out a roar of agreement. Even though I might understand Skyriiwook, it still sounded more like a Tarzan call.
I walked over to Bastilla, who bowed her head slightly though she had a sly smile on her face. "Percy," she greeted.
I bowed my head. "Bastilla. What about you - ready to get this quest underway?"
In answer, she pumped her chest with her first. "For the Jedi, always."
I smiled. I then turned to Jason and Alec. "Alpha, Alec - let's do this. Who are we?"
All of us shouted: "WE ARE THE PRODIGAL KNIGHTS!"
And with that, we boarded our star cruiser.
==============
Two hours later and we were still waiting to be dropped off at the unknown planet we were sent to investigate - we would be able to reach the planet in a matter of hours thanks to the blinding wonder of light speed.
Imagine a blue tunnel filled with clouds, that sped way past us. Now imagine that tunnel filled with lightning which is also blue: that is light speed. When looking at it, it was really blinding after a couple of minutes, but because of all those immense quests and missions I had to do with Alec and Jason, I was use to seeing this all the time.
I was standing at the observation deck with my arms crossed over my chest. Several Republic soldiers were going about their business, going over to consoles and screens on the walls and making sure that the cruiser was still fully operational. The thing about the Phantom - which is the name of the ship - is that it got badly damaged on a routine visit to the planet of Mustafar, the volcanic planet on the edge of the Outer Rim. One of its volcanoes exploded with no explanation and it badly damaged one of the ships primary engines. We managed to get it fixed but we still needed to check it once in a while.
In that time standing there by myself, I had plenty of time to think about my dream and visions that have plagued me for a while now. The conversation I had with Yoda might have lessened the worry, but it was still there. And the question still remained in my mind:
Why do I get the feeling that something bad is going to happen?
I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't noticed that Bastilla stood at my right, her hands clasped behind her back and looking forward like I was. Her eyes held such youth but the way she talks make her sound older than she looked.
Now, I won't lie to you when I say that she was very beautiful: her hair was smooth and long, reaching just past her shoulder blades; her eyes sparkled with life and mischief; and her whole body frame was like looking at a thin hourglass, which meant that her hips were wide.
Not my type, obviously, but still...
No, bad Percy! I screamed mentally. You're married for kriff's sake!
"Thought I might give you some company," she said, still looking at the observation window, "seeing as how I've got nothing better to do."
I smiled. She might be two years younger than me (I'm forty one years old) but she knew me pretty well enough to know that something was bothering me.
I looked at the tunnel we were traveling through, it's thick blue clouds and blue lightning swirling like a proper thunder storm. "It never ceases to amaze me, the power of light speed. The technology we have back on Earth is nothing compared to this," I said with a wistful tone.
Bastilla looked at me. "You miss that planet, don't you?"
In that instance, my mind drifted over to some pretty nasty memories. I remembered the way all the campers at Camp Half-Blood treated me when they started to listen to Jake Anderson, a power hungry son of Nemesis who was not at all pleased that I was getting more attention than him. Now, I didn't care about the power I had back then, as I only cared about my friends. To Anderson however, he wanted my position as leader of Camp Half-Blood and was willing to do anything to get it. And so he manipulated everyone against me, but the only people who didn't was the rest of the Seven, as well as several other close friends of the Seven such as Nico, Thalia and Reyna. Even the gods stuck with me and supported me through the ordeal. In the end, I couldn't take it anymore and I left everything I knew behind. Jason followed me because he wanted me to have a friend to get me through that rough time in my life.
Annabeth wanted me to stay, and it pained me when I said that I couldn't. It was very obvious that Camp didn't want me around, but they didn't take it out on Annabeth or any of the other members of the Seven. I told Annabeth that I would be back one day, but so far I hadn't done that in over twenty years and suddenly I felt a pang of guilt in my chest at the thought that I had left Annabeth, my wife and soulmate, behind to deal with what everyone did to me.
"Sometimes," I answered Bastilla's question.
Bastilla didn't ask for my information - she knew the whole story. "You might go there eventually, one day. Don't forget that the belonging you seek is not behind you - it is ahead of you."
I thought on her words, but shook my head. "It's not the planet I miss, Bastilla. It's Annabeth my thoughts constantly drift to. All I want is to see her again, but I just don't know if I'm ready to face Camp Half-Blood again. I mean, it's been over twenty years and I'm already crushing forty two - they wouldn't even recognise me anymore."
Bastilla smiled. "Like I said before. The belonging you seek is ahead, not behind."
Just then, one of the Republic soldiers came up to me, his white and red armour resembling that of a Mandalorion warrior. "Revan, we are approaching our destination. We arrive in ten minutes."
I nodded. "Get Alpha and the others, Cody. Tell them to meet us here."
Cody nodded, leaving the observation deck to get the others. Bastilla suddenly looked nervous.
I placed a hand on her shoulder. "What is it Bastilla?"
She frowned and placed a hand on her head, the other on my hand. "Something's wrong. I feel...cold all of a sudden. Don't you feel it?"
I reached out through the Force...and felt that same coldness she felt. It felt very malevolent and merciless, but what the hell was it? What is causing that darkness? I brushed it aside, concentrating solely on the mission.
Little did I know of the terror that I would face.
==========
We all gathered around when our ship stepped out of light speed. Finally, we saw our destination - Drommaund Kaas.
Imagine a sphere that held countless swirling storms, flashing with lightning here and there. That was what Drommaund Kaas was all about: a black ball of storms. I knew there must be some sort of surface because that was where one of the remaining Mandalorian clans were hiding, according to some of the intel we had collected.
"That looks nasty," Jason said, crossing his arms around his chest and looking grim.
"Agreement: I agree with the meatbag here," HK47 perked up. I had to resist a small smile: HK always called every other human being and creature of the universe a 'meatbag', due to the fact that we were not made of metal.
R2 whistled in concern and crossed over to me and standing next to me. I did understand him though: thanks to my time being with HK, I was able to understand some amount of binary.
Master, I have never seen a planet like that before, he chirped nervously. Do you think it's safe for droids like me?
I smiled, patting the droid on his round metal head. "Of course buddy."
Alec came over and looked very solemn. "Maybe you and I should go down there to scout the area out, before we bring the others with us."
Bastilla frowned. "Why just you and Percy?"
I looked at her when she used my actually name. Only the Jedi Council and my team knew my real name, but none of the Order and troopers. I had asked for my name to be known as Revan, because if anyone knew my real name then things would be extremely difficult for me to handle.
Alec apparently took her question as an offensive one, because he looked as if he was about to snap at her. I managed to answer for him.
"We don't know what to expect on that planet below," I answered. "We could take the whole team down but that will only draw unwanted attention. We need as few numbers as we can, so it has to be me and him. Jason will stay here and stay in charge until me and Alec get back."
Jason nodded. "That's okay with me - I really don't think that Bastilla can handle the leadership role yet, even though she says she might."
In answer to that, Bastilla punched Jason hard in the shoulder. Jason looked at her in shock. "Ow! What was that for?!"
"Oh, nothing," she smirked. She then turned to me. "Okay, we'll stay up here and wait for you. But if something goes wrong, you get you butts back up here."
I nodded my head. "Understood." I turned to Alec. "Lets go."
