The train didn't stop at any of the stations.

"They must've done something to The control room." Annabeth said as the three of them sat around.

"Listen guys, I'm sorry I wasn't more help." Luke tried to apologize.

"Don't worry about it man." Percy reassured the son of Hermes, "You had no power over your actions. We're just lucky she didn't get any information out of you."

Annabeth just grumbles slightly, obviously annoyed.

Luke looks around, "So, do we have any idea where we're going?"

"I saw a sign for some place called Embargo, Kansas." Annabeth says.

"At least we're still going west." Percy says.

"True, but we've lost a lot of distance south." Annabeth counters.

"Fair enough. Now what's the plan?" The Hunter boy directs the last part towards the quest leader.

"I, I don't know." Luke fumes, "We've got to go west and north a considerable distance, but we've only got around a hundred bucks."

At that moment, the train runs to a stop. Luke stands up and kick the wall, "Dekara!"

"Alright, let's keep a cool head about us." Percy says.

He stands up and uncaps Riptide. In four quick movements, he'd cut a hols out of the door and jumps out.

"You coming?" He calls over his shoulder.

Annabeth and Luke look at each other and follow the son of Poseidon outside.

It was nighttime, and the full moon hung low in the sky, illuminating the train tracks and surrounding woods. Percy looks up into the sky, as if looking for something.

"Hey Annabeth," Percy calls out, "Which way is Pikes Peak?"

"North-west...ish." She replies.

Percy nods and begins walking, "Then we go this way."

"Wait, how do you know?" Luke calls out.

Percy turns and points into the sky, "That's Polaris, the North Star. That means that is west." He points to the left of the star, "And we need to go in between the two."

"Oh, ok." Luke replies, and follows Percy.

The little party walks for another half hour before they hear thunder.

"That doesn't sound good." Annabeth looks up worriedly.

"We should find shelter." Luke speaks up.

Percy nods, and the three of them begin to search for a place to make camp.

Eventually, Luke calls out, "Guys, I found a cave!"

Percy and Annabeth run over to him.

"Come on guys! Get in here quickly." Luke waves them down and the three demigods hunker down in the cave.

"You two get some sleep." Percy says, "I'll take the first watch."

Annabeth rests her hand of Percy's shoulder, "You've been going for close to three days, get some rest. I'll take first watch."

"Yeah man." Luke jumps in, "And I'll take second watch."

"Thanks you two." Percy says.

He walks over the side and puts his backpack down. the instant he does that, it unfolds into a silver tent.

"Woah Percy," Annabeth says, "Where'd you get that?"

"A gift." Percy says, and enters his tent, "Wake me if anything happens."

With that, the Hunter boy manages to get to sleep.

He wasn't sure what alerted him to the danger, but Percy was instantly awake. He sat there for a few minutes. The son of Poseidon could hear voices from the cave. He couldn't make out any words, but he could hear Annabeth and Luke. They sounded agitated. Slowly, he opens up the flap of his tent and exits into the cave.

He assesses the situation, standing just inside the threshold, was a group of strange men. They seemed to be half man, half wolf.

"I told you guys to wake me if anything happened." Percy says as he steps next to his friends.

The obvious leader of the wolf-pack looks at Percy and snarls, "So, there are three of you. It matters not. There is nothing in your arsenal that can kill us. The only thing that can hurt us is -"

"Silver?" Percy's bow appeared over his shoulder and he unsheathed it and pointed an arrow at the man, "Well, that's a relief, for a second I thought we didn't have a weapon that could hurt you, lycanthrope."

The leader snarls, "Do you have any idea who I am? I am King Lycans. You cannot not defeat me or my pack. We -"

"Just shut up." Percy cuts him off and releases his arrow.

It catches the werewolf king right in the chest before he can react. The king dissolves into monster dust. The rest of the werewolves stare in shock, then begin moving towards the three demigods. Suddenly, a rain of silver flashes appear from outside the cave, striking the wolves in behind and turning them all into dust.

From the mist created by the rain, a group of maybe five silhouettes appears. As they get closer, their figures become more distinct.

"Who's there?" Annabeth calls out.

One of the figures steps forward and grabs Percy. She flips him over and the boy slams into the ground. Luke and Annabeth step forward, weapons drawn, until Percy waves them back.

"Don't worry." He says, "We're cool, aren't we Phoebe?"

"I finally won!" Phoebe calls out.

"Not quite." Percy smirks, "You forgot that it's raining outside."

Phoebe pales slightly, and a second later, is slammed by a wall of water.

The Huntress shakes water off of her and yells, "Jackson!"

Percy stands up, "Sorry Phoebe, but you judo threw me."

She laughs, "Fair enough. And who are these two?"

She looks behind Percy at Luke and Annabeth.

"Oh right, Phoebe, meet Luke and Annabeth. Luke and Annabeth, meet Phoebe and... I don't recognize any of them."

The other silhouettes had stepped into the cave and revealed themselves to be four other girls. Phoebe looks behind herself at the other four, who were glaring at Percy suspiciously.

"Oh right, I was taking these newbies out on their first scouting run." She laughs, "We haven't explained the whole exception thing to them. Anyway, Victoria, Nicole, Charlotte, and Yolanda, meet Percy Jackson: the exception."

The four just stare at Percy.

"Well, why don't we go back to the camp." Phoebe says, "Everyone will be eager to here how these last couple weeks have been."

Percy smiles and shoulders his backpack. He turns to Luke and Annabeth, who were just staring dumbly at events that unfolded in front of them, "Cone on guys, it's time for you to meet the family."
