Chapter 20.
Percy Jackson-
I was actually looking forward for this lesson of Care of Magical Creatures. Until some Grumpy-Plank person was the one overseeing the lessons, and they were far too mellow for me. I was hoping that we'd actually learn/do something exciting now.
"I'm so bored!" Thalia whined to Nico and I as we made our way to Haggy-rid's hut thing for the lesson.
"Electrocute Percy," Nico shrugged, and yelped when I punched him in the arm. "What?" He defended when I glared at him. "It always wakes her up when she does that!"
"Maybe she should shock you." I said menacingly.
"But my screams aren't nearly as entertaining! It's a compliment....sort of!"
I rolled my eyes and shoved him onto the floor. Nico snickered and propped himself up before wiping some dirt off his clothes.
"That isn't what I mean." Thalia sighed. "I don't want to shock anyone."
Nico and I froze.
"See, I..." Thalia looked behind her to see Nico and I standing still, giving her weird looks. We just stood there in total shock.
"Do you think it is her?" Nico whispered loudly.
"Of course not," I said. "It can't be. Our cousin loves to shock people! Either there is something really wrong with her, or she is an evil clone."
"Do evil clones even exist?"
"How should I know? Besides, I don't count anything out anymore."
"True..."
"Oh, stop it!" Thalia growled, and pushed both of us back, shocking us.
"What I meant is that shocking people isn't enough. I want to train again. Old fashion style. Weapons, no powers. Full out frenzy. Skill on skill. Strength on strength. Weapon to weapon. Hand to hand. That sort of thing."
Nico and I got up and nodded in agreement. Sure our powers were awesome. They were fun and amazing, and have saved our lives loads of times, but sometimes there was nothing like a good old fashioned fight. A fight where the winner would only be determined by their skill, strength, technique, and wits.
"We'll have to find some place to do that, then."
"The Forest?"
"No," I said. "Too many people go into the Forest. We've discovered maybe about a bazillion secret rooms and passages in the castle, maybe one of those, or something."
"Oh, well, then. Don't worry, Thals, we'll find some place to beat each other up after maybe getting maimed by some dangerous, vicious, lethal, perhaps rabid animals," Nico said earnestly.
"Okay," Thalia grinned, like a kid given candy. Or me given blue candy. Or blue cookies. Or blue waffles, or....okay, you get it, I love blue food. (Should I give you a bulldozer now, or do you want Leo to give you a hammer so you can fan-girl/fan-boy while you hell break down the forth wall?)
We walked down to the hut thing a little happier after that, which is pretty weird, but I've already established my weirdness, and I'm not going to repeat myself again.
(Okay, you know what, just imagine Hagrid speaking like Hagrid. I'll try and fix it when I go back and edit it, all right? I can't do it off the top of my head.)
"Okay, class. Today, we'll be learning about a wonderful, endangered creature." The big hairy guy addressed us. "Pegasi are amazing winged horses that are told in myths and legends, and you'll get to meet some of the only surviving Pegasi in the world."
Nico and Thalia turned to me, and snickered. I looked down and tried to hold back my laughter.
"This will be really interesting," Hermione said brightly, coming up to us. "I can't believe Hagrid isn't going to show us creatures that could kill us, but this is a much better turn of events."
"Have any of you ever heard of Pegasi before?" Harry asked, coming up from behind Hermione.
"Well-" But before I could finish, Harry-rid came out of the Forest with two Pegasi, one was pure white, and the other was white with brown patches.
'I feel so ridiculous. This isn't a circus. I ain't in a zoo. Quite looking at me!' The white one said.
'It's obvious they aren't looking at you, they're looking at me, Ria. I'm gorgeous.'
The white Pegasus, who happened to be female, snorted at her male counterpart. 'You're an imbecile.'
'Ooh, bring out the big words now? I'm terrified.'
'You should be. You know the only reason I'm still here is because the hairy guy doesn't hold back on the donuts!'
'You keep eating like you are, and you're going to get fat.'
'You little-' Ria started.
'Hello, my name is Percy.' I told them in my mind, laughing.
They stopped arguing, and their head's turned to me and bowed slightly.
'Your sea princiness, wow!' The male said. 'I'm Chip. She's Ria. It's an honor!'
I inwardly laughed. 'It's just Percy. It's so cool to meet you guys. I didn't think I'd be able to meet an Pegasi in this place.'
'We let him take us in,' Chip said. 'He gives us good food.'
I was about to resort, but I realized everyone was staring.
"What are you looking at?"
"They are bowing at you," Hairy-wig said in a hushed tone.
"Oh, really? That's strange..." Thalia and Nico snickered. Harry looked at me strangely, but Hermione was in awe of them, muttering something about books.
'Stop bowing at me! Do something, anything away from me! Kick the blonde snot-brain, or something!'
Chip grinned, and spread his wings, galloping over to Malfoy, preparing to trample him.
'Oh, don't do it, you idiot! Didn't you here about what happened to that Hippogriff thing, or whatever it was called?'
'Oh,' Chip said, sounding disappointed. 'Oh, right.' The trotted over to Hagrid, and stayed there.
"Well, that was strange." Hagrid said brightly. "But see them, this is Spot, and this is Snowy."
'Spot and Snowy?'
'Well, it isn't like he could ask us our names.' Chip said, still sounded put out that he didn't get to beat up Malfoy.
"Today, all we'll be doing as feeding them. Next week, we'll work towards riding 'em."
...
"I bet you liked today's Care of Magical Creatures lesson," Ginny smirked, walking up to us.
"It was so funny when they were bowing at you, and you were just staring at them. Everyone was so confused!" Thalia said with delight. "But it would probably be the last thing anyone would guess-that you were having a conversation with them."
"Chip and Ria are nice," I said.
Ginny laughed, and then she frowned.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
"I was just thinking."
When she didn't offer any more information, I prodded, "About?"
She didn't say anything for a minute. Then she looked at us seriously. "I want you guys to teach me to defend myself."
Thalia, Nico, and I looked at each other in surprise.
"Why?" Nico asked.
"I'm good enough with my wand," Ginny said. "But now, I know that's not enough. You guys are proof of that. There are so many things we need to protect ourselves from. And I can see your weapons, so I'd probably be able to see monsters, too, right?"
When we didn't answer, she continued. "Okay, well, then I need to know how to fight them."
"Ginny, monsters aren't going to attack you."
"Can you be one hundred percent sure?"
"No, but Ginny, you aren't a demigod, so they wouldn't attack you. That's a good thing."
"Yes, but I had feeling weak and defenseless. If you guys are fighting monsters that could potentially kill you...although that is extremely unlikely, I can't just sit on the sidelines."
I thought about it, and didn't say anything. We looked at each other, then at Ginny, and seemed to be thinking the same thing.
"Well, if you could help us find a place to train in, we'll teach you there, too." Thalia grinned.
Ginny's face lit up.
...
I exhaled, and clenched my hand into a fist. Then I punched forward, and felt my power be directed and released. I felt it build up, and force out, like a sneeze. The power took the form of a blue-green/sea green energy, and as far as I could figure, it could bring any god or Titan to their knees. That unnerved me a bit.
"Ahh!" I yelled as the shock wave from my blast knocked me off my feet.
"You've done well." Hecate's voice came from above me.
"I still haven't gotten it," I sighed.
"But you've learned to channel your power, and even somewhat control it. That is excellent progress."
"If you say so," I grumbled.
"I do say so. Now, listen carefully. You will wake soon, and today is an important day."
"Is that so?"
"You are having a Hogsmeade visit."
I snorted, and tried to stifle my laughter. Hecate paused and stared at me. "Keep going," I said innocently.
She glared at me, but continued. "At a pub called the Hog's Head, Harry, Ron and Hermione will be holding the first DA meeting. It won't have a name yet, and it is pretty much just an introduction, but you and your cousins need to attend the meeting."
"All right, I yawned. "So can I go now?"
She flicked my temple, and I shot up, grabbing my head.
"Hey, what the Hades was that for?" I half yelled.
"You annoy me," Hecate said simply.
I swore in Ancient Greek as the blackness ebbed away my vision.
Sorry, I know it wasn't that long. Needs some fine-tuning and editing, but so do all my chapters. Right now I'm just trying to work my story out and get it out there for you guys.
50K reads! That's amazing! Really, really awesome. You guys rock!
So, a chapter or two back I said the mirror room would come back? Yeah, well, get ready for that. The DA will be starting soon, so that's something to look forward to when Percy Jackson and his Greek cousins are involved. :)
I always liked Ginny's character in the books, but felt she didn't get enough credit. She is strong-willed, and powerful, something that isn't too recognized. So she is going to learn to fight like a demigod, which will be cool to write. So, yeah. She isn't just going to be their fan-girl or something. Ginny is going to be an important part of this story, which is why she is the only one they trust enough to tell about demigods.
If the Care of Magical Creatures scene didn't flow, or read as smoothly, I'm sorry. The dialog with Chip and Ria sort of messed me up a little. But they will come back, so remember those two. And sorry about what happened with Hagrid. I didn't want to mess up on how he speaks, so I'm going to change that when I go back and edit it. I'm an American teenager. A lazy, lazy American teenager, so I can't really be faulted for that. Well, I can, but I hope you don't.
I have a lot of stuff to focus on, including, and mostly being work. School work, you know how that is. I've got big tests at the end of the year, and I've been out of school sick for a pretty long time, so... Not like flu sick, or anything like that. Not something that can be given to another person, you know, painful, complicated shit involving my stomach, so wish me luck.
This chapter was going to be longer, originally, but I didn't really have the time to work on this all too much, and I wanted to give you guys a chapter, so I updated this.
Okay, this will probably sound silly, and perhaps slightly stupid, but have you ever seen the show Dragon Ball Z? Well, if you have, great! If you haven't, don't knock it til you try it. If you have seen it, think about Super Saiyan awesomeness when you think of Percy's new power. That's right, that's what I said. You didn't read wrong.
I'll try and update again soon, and I thank you guys for all of your support. It really means the world to me, so thanks a lot :|) Please keep reading my story, and voting and commenting and everything. :)
