Chapter 17.
Percy Jackson-
Ron was the Octavian. Harry, Ron, and Hermione came in the Common Room at least an hour after Thalia, Nico, Ginny, and I. The four of us were sitting in the Common Room, and I told them some of what Hecate said. We pretended we were just there waiting for them, and since Ron was the last to climb into the Portrait Hole, he was the dreaded Octavian.
"What's with the cheery attitude?" Thalia had asked me. "For a while there, you were moodier than Nico di Grouchy Pants."
"Hey!" Can you guess who that was?
"Well, Hecate summoned me," I said casually, munching on a blue cookie I got from the Kitchens.
When their mouths dropped open, I laughed at the priceless expressions plastered to their faces.
"Hecate?" Ginny asked, dumbfounded. "Isn't that...the goddess of...Crossroads, you said? No, Magic. Or, wait-"
"She is the goddess of both," I nodded. "Yeah. She told me stuff. Of course, since that stuff sort of involves you somewhat directly, I'm not exactly allowed to tell you."
Ginny shrugged. "I can understand that. I can't interfere with all the godliness and demigodliness stuff. I'm just a witch."
"No," Thalia frowned. "If you want to be, you are one of us. And we never turn our backs on our friends."
That got a smile out of her. "Look, I really am sorry. But some of the stuff she told me...you would hate me for telling you, because you wouldn't be able to tell anyone else. You'd hate it that you'd know this...and wouldn't be able to change it. You'd hate it, hate yourself...trust me when I say you are better off not knowing. Ignorance is bliss."
"You sure seem blissful. Is that because ignorance is how you live your life?" Nico asked with a sly grin. Everyone else laughed, and I pouted.
"Oh, you guys are no fun."
"Are you kidding me?" Thalia said with a calm expression. "We are the children...sorry, the Greek children of the Big Three. Nothing tops that."
I thought about it for a moment, and then reluctantly nodded. She was right. We are pretty awesome.
"Don't you have somewhere to be?" Ginny asked the three of us with an amused smirk.
"Huh?" Nico asked. Thalia and I looked at her expectantly.
"Three syllables. De-ten-tion."
The three of us shot up at the same time. Then, I relaxed and sat down again. "Oh. That. I thought you were saying something way more serious."
"Let's go," Thalia sighed. "I bet we could think of lots of things to mess up to entertain ourselves in detention. With the Toad, right? Sounds fun." The three of smirked.
"You guys are so...alike that it's scary."
We all turned to stare at her.
"Yeah! Like that! You guys all operate on the same wavelength for something."
"I do not think like these idiots," Thalia said sounding offended.
"You kind of do," Nico shrugged.
"Do not!" Thalia protested.
"Hey, how'd you think I feel? I don't want to think like a Static Skull."
"Hey!" I spoke up. "You can't use that one! That one was mine! It was my idea!"
"Fine, I don't want to think like a Pinecone Face!" Nico scowled. "Happy, now? That one was neutral ground."
"I hate you guys," Thalia muttered.
I ignored her. "I'm feeling particularly happy, yes."
Remember I said I was going to be in your head sometimes, telling you what needs to be done?
I jumped up, startling my three companions.
Yes, I remember. I thought. Thanks for the scare.
Yeah, well. You need to go to detention.
I made a face. Why?
Harry will be there, as well. And trust me, this is one detention you will want to miss, but you need to help him.
I rolled my eyes. Is it really that bad?
Yes.
What is it?
Short version or long one?
Do you even need to ask that?
She's going to make you guys write with your blood, so it is engraved in your skin. It's pretty painful.
Wizard pain level?
9 and a half.
Demigod pain level?
About a 2.
Then it isn't a big deal.
To you, maybe. But you need to start a few acts of rebellion now. Starting in detention.
That got me excited and I grinned and punched the air with my fist. So...what kind of mayhem are you talking about here? A little, a lot? Clarisse, Leo, or the Stoll brothers. Which level of mayhem works in a situation like this?
I probably looked insanely weird to my friend and cousins, who were currently staring at me like I was Janus, or something. In case my obsessive fans have forgotten who he is, I believe I met him before I blew up that volcano. He is a fan of french doors, I think.
Oh, I'm sure you'll think of something. And if you don't...just ask Thalia.
So you are saying I am unable to think of a good idea on my own?
Yes.
...
I'm going to ignore you now.
Is that some kind of a threat? I already told you what you need to do. I don't have to be here. Your head is a very scary place.
I might have been offended, but I happen to agree with you in this case.
I know, Hecate said smugly, and then I felt her presence leave.
"That's right, you better run!" I said, just so I could have the say.
"Who are you talking to?" Nico asked me, looking confused.
"You are a weird, weird boy." Thalia said, and Ginny nodded in agreement.
"Percy Weird Jackson, I already established that is not my middle name!"
They gave me more weird looks, but I was used to that.
"That was the starter of this species...Thals, Nico, let us go to detention," I said dramatically.
"You really are a Seaweed Brain," Thalia shook her head. "It's hard to imagine that anything is up there."
"Up where?" I asked dumbly.
"Never you mind," Nico smirked. "This is just a prime example of your Kelp Headedness."
"I don't think that's a word," Ginny said.
"I'm the Ghost King. I could make up a word if I want to."
All this nonsense was giving me a headache, so I subtly tried to make a hasty escape.
"And just where do you think you are going?"
"Uh...detention?"
"Okay," Thalia grinned. "So what exactly did Hecate tell you to do."
"Um, what we do best." I grinned. "Cause mayhem and mass panic. Sounds fun, right?"
Thalia licked her lips, and her eyes gleamed in anticipation. "Excellent."
"Do we have to walk all the way to detention?" Nico asked.
"Not if you give us a ride on the Shadow Express." I grinned.
Nico rolled his eyes, but put out his hand for us to grab on to. As we faded into shadows, I called out, "Bye, Ginny! We'll see you after we cause enough damage for one day!"
I heard her chuckle, and my stomach lurched.
We stayed concealed in the shadows for a few moments, making sure no one saw. I don't know, but I'm pretty sure even Wizards and Witches, with all their spell casting and wand waving, might have a heart attack at witnessing three people walk out of shadows. Or they'd think we were evil, or something as crazy as that.
When we were sure the cost was clear, we stepped out, and walked into Umbrella's office.
"You are late." Umbrella said crossly.
"Sorry, we took the wrong turn at a changing staircase," I said innocently.
She smirked, and I knew why. She was going to make us write with those feather thingys that would use our blood, and force use to scar it on our hands.
"You will be writing lines. Potter, you will write 'I must not tell lies', and you three will be writing 'I must respect my superiors'."
"You haven't given us any ink," Harry said.
"Oh, my quills are special. You don't need ink."
"I know," I said loudly, stopping Harry from writing. I'd thought of the perfect thing to mess with Umbrella Toad Lady. "But it is much simpler to do this," I pulled my wand, changed a small, random object into a bronze knife.
Umbrella gasped and backed away. Harry stared at the knife in horror. Thalia and Nico just looked at me curiously.
I chuckled, and with one swift stroke, I slit my palm. I barely felt a thing, so it wasn't a biggie, but the horrified looks on the non-demigods were highly amusing.
Then, I took out a regular feather thingy, and I dipped in my blood, that was slowly oozing out of my hand. Then I started to write in Greek.
"What's the matter?" I asked slyly. "You wanted us to write with our own blood. That's what I'm doing, isn't it?" When she stared at my hand, I added, "I'm just one step ahead of you, Professor Toad."
She was still pretty stunned, but gave a gasp of outrage. "You...you...!"
"Nice," Thalia smirked. I handed her the knife with smirk. She grinned, and cut her palm just enough for it to bleed.
She handed the knife to Nico. "I have no idea why I put up with you crazies," Nico sighed. "But at least this is better than spending time with my dear step-mom." He cut his palm, and handed the knife to me. I twirled it in my hand, and turned the blade to ash with my wand.
Toad's face went so red, it was funny. She stormed out of the room muttering under her breath.
"You people are insane." Harry said softly, but he had a slight grin on his face.
"That's why people love us," I said.
I knew Harry still didn't actually like us, but I could tell that after our stunt with detention, that he had some kind of respect for us. He still wasn't going to be a friend, but I could tell he was willing to be an acquaintance, or maybe a friendly prank rival.
Umbrella Toad Lady came back into the room with a masked expression. But I could read her like a Greek Book. She hated Harry, but she hated me all of the more.
She could tell I would never be threatened, or swayed for any reason. She could see that I wouldn't tolerate her, and that I would never stop doing things to rebel against her.
All of which were true, of course.
"The four of you will be back tomorrow, and every day for the next two weeks," Umbrella hissed. "No more tricks. You will do exactly what I say, when I say. Nothing else, got it?"
"Uh huh. Whatever you say, Toady." Thalia snorted.
"I'm serious."
"No, he is a dangerous criminal who escaped prison. You are a hag that closely resembles a toad. Big difference." I said, smirking.
Her face turned all kind of shades of red. Before she could speak, however, I said; "Demigods don't like to be controlled, and we can't be. I survived worse than a little cut on my hand, so you should watch yourself. Because if you do anything, and I mean anything that hurts people I care about...you'll meet my pen." She didn't understand a word I said, though, because I said it in Greek.
Thalia and Nico nodded in agreement. Then I winked and said (also in Greek), "You also might want to put up some different wallpaper. You don't need to make it obvious how pathetic you are." My cousins laughed, and together, we walked right out the door, without letting her get another word in.
"See you later, Harry." I said. "And you might want to step up those pranks." (Because there hasn't been any yet.)
So they found a way to combat Umbridge's detention, how about that? Remember to vote and to comment. I read all of the comments, and I really like to hear what you guys have to say.
So, yeah. Please do keep in mind that it is not edited, and I will edit this sometimes after I finish it.
If you can, give my other books a try. They don't have all that many chapters, mainly because I am mostly focused on this one at the moment, but, yeah. Just give them a try, okay?
If you happen to be on February break, enjoy it. If you aren't, then enjoy whatever it is you are doing :)
