Chapter 4: Being A Demigod is Hard
(Mace's POV)
Alex showed me around the camp without even looking back at me. The way she acted and talked sound as if she had other things better to do.
Once in awhile she would glance back at me though. If I looked back at her she would glare and look back ahead of us.
She showed me everything quickly. The strawberry fields, the cabins for the 'demigods' to live in, the gym, the volleyball nets, the big house, (That's what they call the barn) and then finally the beach that over looked the Atlantic ocean.
The sun was setting and made the water a soft orange color. The sky above us was a purplish-orange. One or two stars above us started to pop up and twinkle. Despite how cold it was, it gave me a warm feeling inside.
Focus, something whispered in my head. Immediately I knew it was Tartarus. "Do I really need to do this?" I tried whispering.
"What was that?" Alex asked. I stiffened. "Nothing." I replied. She gave me a glare.
A deep rumble shook my head around.
"No," She said quietly. "Tell me what you said."
I groaned silently to myself. "I just said that everything is just happening really really fast. Why did that monster thing attack me?!"
She shook her head. "The monsters around Camp Half Blood have been acting weird lately. Almost seeming.... Quiet. Well, until that monster attacked you, but that's it."
"There's more?" I shook my head in disbelief.
She nodded. "Sure there are." She turned her head and looked at the sunset. She sighed.
Wanting to get off of the topic, I asked, "What about the Gods?" She looked back at me. "Who said anything about Gods?"
I froze. But then she started laughing. "Haha, joking. Just giving you a hard time. What do you want to know about them?"
"Well... Everything."
"Well," Alex started, "There are a lot of them. For instance, Aphrodite, Ares, Poseidon, Hermes, Zeus, Hera, Apollo, Athena, Hephaestus." She looked at me. "Need I go on?"
"I'm fine." I looked at her, curious. "So, your a demigod right?" She nodded. Her face slightly got a sad look.
"So, you have a god or Goddess as a parent? Who's yours? Do you know?"
Suddenly, she sat down on the soft sand and looked at the sunset.
Uh oh. Touchy subject. I thought. I sat down beside her.
"You don't need to answer, if you want." I told her. Her nose twitched. "No." She said without looking back at me. "It's fine. I don't know my parent." Then she looked up. "They're supposed to give us a sign. To know who our parents are." She pointed at one of the cabins. "I stay in the Hermes cabin since I don't know who my parent is. Everyone does until they do know. Then they go to that God or Goddess's cabin."
Then she looked back at me. "I suppose you will know soon who your parent is. Kids like you always do."
I gulped.
She sighed and got up. "C'mon. It's time for dinner." I got up too. "Dinner?" Then my stomach growled. I didn't even realize how hungry I was.
"Let's go!" She said, impatiently.
"Alright alright." She started back up toward the picnic tables, and I followed.
