Crossover Theory: The Hogwarts House (featuring a little rant about clichés)

What just happened
"Hey! I'm in the mood for a PJO + HP crossover!"

*Goes into reading list, looks through the fifty different HP crossover fanfics, and chooses one*

*Opens story. Percy and/or one/all of the Seven possibly with Thalia, Reyna, Nico, and/or Calypso find out about Hogwarts and the Wizarding world through Chiron/McGonagall/Hecate/Dumbledore. The heroes agree to go and be foreign exchange students/teachers because Harry or the school are in some sort of Voldemort and/or Gaea-caused danger. The group/person takes the Hogwarts Express and just so happens to be in the same cart as the Golden Trio or any of their friends on their way to spend their eighth year at Hogwarts because the year before, they didn't learn anything, or the group/person makes some kind of flashy entrance during the introduction. Yada, yada, yada... You know how it goes.

This is how the majority of the crossover fanfics that I read end up going. So, I want to know. Do you glut yourself on cliches? Try to find the story in your archive that fits this description the best and comment its title! Do you prefer the more original, out-of-the-box fanfics? Comment the title of the least cliche crossover that you have read! Siriusly, I'm desperate for good fanfics. Moving on!

Back to the Present
I think we all know the drill for this kind of thing. If you are a fangirl/boy-in-training and hadn't encountered the mysterious crossovers yet, why are you reading this? I hadn't started reading one-shots until I was about five months into Wattpad and had depleted my supply of crossovers. Another question, how far did you slip into the internet to find this mess? Also, to help those struggling to follow my insanity, here's a quick overview.

If you went down a route with student Percy in it, congratulations! You got to spend more time with the one and only Percy Jackson! Let's say that Percy and the people he's with (if any) wanted to get the full Hogwarts experience, and took the Hogwarts Express, stumbling into a cart that holds the Golden Trio. Now, pretty much all of the fan-fictions that have followed the route so far go in this direction: Annabeth probably freaks out about the architecture, Percy and Nico do something involving thestrals, and when they arrive, everyone thinks that they all look really hot.

Then comes the sorting hat scene, and the reason why this chapter exists. So, if it takes place after TBOO, their names are called up, and Annabeth is first because it is arranged by last name. That sorting hat is on the head, and she goes into Gryffindor. Percy comes up, and when the sorting hat goes onto his head, or near it, in some cases, the sorting hat spazzes out and immediately sends him off to Gryffindor, because the memories of Tartarus are apparently too much for him (even though he had already seen it through Annabeth and Nico).

That is one of the things that I hate the most about these cliche crossover fanfics. It is on the top of the list, along with Harry getting jealous of Percy because Percy is taking all the attention (Harry hated being famous, people, get your facts straight! He would be glad to have the attention off of him for once!) and Nico falling in love with Ginny or some (specifically female) OC after TBOO (Nico is clearly gay, or at least bi- those who can't accept it don't accept life. Also, Solangelo will prevail!!!) This is why I wrote this theory/rant. I do not believe, under any circumstances, that Percy should go into Gryffindor. It is wrong and is a huge mistake on the part of fangirls/boys. Which house do I think that Percy should truly be in?

Hufflepuff.

Now, now, before you delete this from your library or start commenting, "HUFFLEPUFF IS THE LEAST INTERESTING AND LEAST ACTION-ORIENTED HOUSE IN THE HARRY POTTER UNIVERSE!!! A HERO LIKE PERCY WOULDN'T GO INTO THAT HOUSE!!!!!" let me explain my reasoning. (As an aid to those not familiar with HP, not many characters came from Hufflepuff other than, what, Cedric Diggory?—and spoiler alert, he kinda died in the first book he appeared in and no one really liked him—That kid that was petrified by the basilisk in The Chamber of Secrets? Random kid #48 in the crowd during that Quidditch match that was glossed over in the movies because it was against Hufflepuff? So Hufflepuff isn't exactly known for really exciting things happening. It's mostly just ignored and considered boring.)

If you have never read the Harry Potter series, or you simply forgot, here's a refresher. There are four houses that the Hogwarts students are divided into: Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, and Slytherin. I think that the sorting hat's song can tell the rest.

Take only those they wanted, so,
For instance, Slytherin
Took only pure-blood wizards
Of great cunning just like him.
And only those of sharpest mind
Were taught by Ravenclaw
While the bravest and the boldest
Went to daring Gryffindor.
Good Hufflepuff, she took the rest
and taught them all she knew,
Thus, the Houses and their founders
Maintained friendships firm and true.

The italicized text was all written by J. K. Rowling. I do not own any of it.

Okay, first, can I just comment on the discrimination in this song? Godric took the brave ones, Salazar took the clever ones, Rowena took the smart ones, and Helena took the rest. (Those are the names of the founders of Hogwarts and creators of the four houses, for you non-Potterheads out there.) Now, sorting hat, that is mean.

Second off, I still need to tell you the baseline for Hufflepuff house. Hufflepuff only takes the kindest and specifically, most loyal hearts.

Bam. Case closed.

Because every self-respecting PJO fangirl/boy should know that Percy's fatal flaw is loyalty. We know that every single act of bravery, every heroic thing he's ever knowingly done, it was born from that loyalty. No matter how brave, smart, or clever that boy is, nothing will outmatch his loyalty to his friends and family.

Still don't believe me? The main reason why people always throw Percy into Gryffindor is because he survived Tartarus. However, does anyone remember why Percy went into Tartarus in the first place? Loyalty.

So, did you like this theory? Do you agree with me? Comment your thoughts! Also, if you disagree, which house do you think that Percy should be in? Vote or comment!
