Crossover Rant: Everyone Dies
You might be able to tell from the title, but I'm complaining about why almost every PJO crossover I've read kills all of the seven, plus Thalia, Nico, or even Paul and Sally sometimes, except for Percy.
Um... why? Seriously, why? Why would you kill a large amount of the draw towards your story and make things that much harder for you? There's not much to be gained from it, other than scarring Percy for life, which must be the author's excuse for making him so out-of-character because they are so terrible at writing that they write a whole conversation including over six people in a single paragraph.
Maybe it's because all crossover stories are like that now, and no one questions it anymore because the authors are just making copies of things they've read since they have no creativity.
I guess that gives Percy a chance to get a fresh start, to not miss his friends in any way other than temper tantrums that rival Harry Potter himself (OotP had like full pages of Harry yelling at his friends and it wasn't the only one that had stuff like that in the series). I guess Percy needs to be broken before he meets these groups or else they'll clash and kill each other (Was that a rule somewhere that I didn't know about? Did I not get the memo?). I hope you will see how stupid that sounds when it's written in front of you.
I mean, is it really that hard to come up with a reason for Percy to join the Avengers that doesn't include them kidnapping him while he's mourning his dead friends or the gods sending him there to recuperate? Can't you let Percy be a happy Hogwarts professor that can't wait to see his girlfriend again instead of the DADA teacher with a tortured past? Why can't you stick to the canon, although admittedly mildly anticlimactic, final battle against Gaea? Why does Percy and Annabeth's trek through Tartarus have to be any worse than it already was?
I ask all of these questions to my fellow fanfiction writers, and I request that you do the same.
Think outside the box. Stop killing my favorite characters.
Okay, so I got a little snarky with this one; I really hate grammar mistakes. When that is combined with something I am ranting about... Well, let's just say you don't want to get in my way when that happens...
Happy Reading,
