Chapter 10 - Flames a Glazing
Guys I can't believe this book is almost at 1k reads
I think I'm gonna a Q/A when it does get to 1k
November came around, the weather turned very cold. Percy put on sweatpants and a Gryffindor hoodie as he stepped outside of his dorm to find his friends. Today was the day before Harry's first quidditch match.
"Where we going?" said Percy they had finished their class for the day and had nothing to do.
"We could do to the courtyard," said Layla "Might get some homework done"
The five of them made their way to the freezing courtyard. Ever since the troll incident, Hermione has become more relaxed about breaking rules. She made a blue fire in a jar so they wouldn't freeze to death.
Percy tapped on the jar "That's so cool"
Harry was reading a book that he borrowed from Hermione when Snape crossed the yard. Percy noticed that he was walking with a limp. Percy, Layla, Harry, Hermione, and Ron moved closer to hide the flame from Snape. Unfortunately, something caught Snape's eye. He limped over.
"What's that you've got there, Potter?"
Harry showed him the book.
"Libary books are not to be taken outside the school," said Snape "Give it to me. Five points from Gryffindor."
"Bitch" Layla muttered as Snape limped away "I hope whatever caused that limp is hurting him badly."
The Gryffindor common room was very noisy a few hours before the big game. Where Percy learned that if Gryffindor beat Slytherin today they would be in second place for the house cup.
Harry came over and told them he was going to ask Snape back for his book.
"Good luck," They told him "Your gonna need it."
Ron and Hermione were sitting by a window working on a poster for later today. He and Layla were working on something when one of the older kids came by and dropped off a bunch of paper, glue, and googly eyes. They had no clue what to do with them.
"Hey," Layla said "Perce we haven't been alone since the whole troll thing so I didn't get to ask you. And... where the hell did you get that sword from?"
Percy had been expecting that question since that day he kinda hoped that she forgot.
"Does anyone else know or just you?" he asked
"Of course, we know you were holding a bloody sword."
"Ok look" he pulled out his pen "this is the sword that you saw"
"Perce, that's the pen you write with every day."
"Yeah, I know but it turns into a sword when I uncap it."
Layla looked at him waiting for him to do it.
"Well I'm not gonna do it right now" Percy stated looking at all the people in the room
"Fine but you'll have to show me later," said Layla "Why do you have that though?"
"My dad gave it to me as a gift"
"Oh," she said, "Is it normal in America to have pen's to become swords?"
"No, it's not," Percy said "And what's with all the questions? Can't we just work on whatever this is." pointing his hands to the mess of paper and glue.
"Sorry for me being curious, my bad."
Harry came in later only an hour before the game would start.
"Did you get it?" Ron asked as Harry joined them "What's the matter?"
In a low whisper, Harry told them what he'd seen. Just as he finished Angelina Johnson called him over saying that he was late saying Wood was furious at him.
"You know what this means?" Layla said "He tried to get past the three-headed dog during Halloween! That's where he was going when we saw him and I would bet Tad and Warty (Her pet frogs) that he let that troll in, to make a diversion!"
Hermione's eyes were wide.
"No - he wouldn't," she said. "I know he's not very nice, but he wouldn't try and steal something Dumbledore is keeping safe."
"Hermione, you think that just because his a teacher his some type of god," Percy said rolling his eyes "I'm with Layla."
Ron said nodding his head "I wouldn't put it past Snape. But what's he after? What's that dog guarding?"
"It's got to be something dangerous," said Layla "Or really powerful."
"Yeah," said Percy "But let's forget about that for now. We've got a game to cheer."
The stadium was packed Percy was in the middle of Lauren Hughes and Layla. Both their faces were painted gold and red. With hand prints of the same color all over their legs. They really did go all out for this.
"God it so fucking cold," said Layla
"I know," said Lauren "Can this game start already."
"Maybe you guys shouldn't have worn a crop top and jeans short when it's 42 degrees (6 degrees C) outside."
"At least I'm supporting my house unlike you," said Lauren
"Yeah Perce, you could have put in a little effort," added Layla
" Hey, I'm very comfortable and warm right now unlike you two," said Percy wearing his sweatshirt and sweatpants.
"Oh come off it," said Lauren "Hear I have a gold face paint stick. Let me put it on you."
"No way!"
"Layla hold him down!" said Lauren laughing as Percy shook his head back and forth. Layla grabbed his head holding it still.
"Tada there" Lauren giggled "You look great"
"Probably look like a zesty baseball player now" Percy mumbled he could see some gold under his eyes.
"GO HARRY!"
"GRYFFINDOR FOR THE WIN"
Where among the various chants that Percy heard so far in the game. The Weasley twin's friend Lee Jordan, was commenting on the game and was getting many warnings from Professor McGonagall.
"Budge up there, move along"
"Hagrid!" Ron and Hermione called and squeezed together to give Hagrid enough space to join them.
He had a large pair of binoculars around his neck "How you doing Hagrid?" Percy asked him
"It's the funny one eh. Bin watchin' from me hut," said Hagrid
Percy could see a speck of Harry soaring way up above him moving up and down the field. Then in a blink of an eye, he dived downward. The Slytherin seeker followed after him.
Then all of a sudden Harry's broom gave a frightening lurch.
"What's happening to Harry's broom," Percy asked pointing up to the sky
"Dunno what Harry think's he's doing" Hagrid mumbled. He started through his binoculars. "If I didn't know better I'd say he'd lost control of his broom... but he can't have..."
"It's like he riding on one of those mechanical bulls, they got in America," said Lauren
Harry's broom gave a wild jerk and Harry swung off it. The whole crowd gasped. Harry was dangling from it, holding it only with one hand.
"Did something happen when Flint blocked him from before?" said Layla
"Can't nothing interfere with a broomstick except powerful Dark magic - no kid could do that to a Nimbus Two Thousand," Hagrid said
At those words, Hermione seized Hagird's binoculars, but instead of looking upwards to Harry, she looked sight ahead at the teacher's section.
"I knew it," Hermione gasped, "Snape - look."
Layla took the binoculars from her and saw what she was looking at "He's moving his mouth really really fast and glaring straight at Harry."
"His jinxing the broom," said Hermione "This is bad, very bad."
"What should we do," Ron said worried for his best friend
"Leave it to me." Hermione said "I've got just the idea"
Before Percy could say anything, she disappeared. The broom was getting worse and worse. The Weasleys flew up to try and pull Harry to safety onto one of their brooms, but it was no good. Every time they got near him, the broom would jump higher and higher.
"Come on Mione," Percy said "Do something"
Hermione fought her way across to the stand where Snape stood. She looked up to try and find Harry. Things were not looking good she needed to hurry up. She didn't even stop to say sorry as she knocked Professor Quirrel headfirst into the crowd. Reaching Snape, she crouched down, pulled out her wand, and whispered a few, well chosen words. Bright blue flames shot from her wand onto Snape's robes. It took a few seconds for Snape to notice, she scrambled back along the row - and a sudden yelp told her she had done her job.
It was enough. Up in the air, Harry was suddenly able to get back on his broom.
"She did it" Layla chimed "Neville, you can look now"
Lauren scoffed "I bet she asked Snape if she got her homework right."
Percy was looking in the crowd for anything that could be a Hermione he prayed that she didn't get caught. While he was looking he didn't notice that Harry hit the field and coughed up a gold ball in his hand.
"I've got the Snitch!" he shouted, waving it above his head, and the game ended in complete confusion.
"He didn't catch it, he nearly swallowed it," Flint howled for twenty minutes.
That didn't matter Harry didn't break any rules. The Gryffindor ran down the pitch and picked up Harry chanting him the whole way back to the common room.
When they got back a small party was going on but they needed to tell Harry about everything that saw.
They grabbed him from everyone and pulled him into the dorm.
The first thing Harry said when they were alone was.
"Dude, what happened to your face?"
"Doesn't matter" said Percy waving his hand
"Look It was Snape," Ron was explaining, "We saw him cursing your broomstick, muttering, he wouldn't take his eyes off you."
"I had to set his robs on fire," said Hermione "And right when I did that you got back on your broom."
"Nice job," Percy said grinning and giving a high-five to Hermione
Percy was sure now that Snape had it out for Harry. Whenever Percy had Potions he would go out of his way to make it hell for Snape.
A white snowy owl pecked on the glass. Harry went over to let her in.
"Hedwig, what do you have."
Harry opened up an older scratched-up piece of paper opening it up he read "Come to me hut first thing in the morning tomorrow. Bring your friends if you want. - From Hagrid."
"I don't know about you guys but I'm beat," Harry said "And we're going to Hagrid's in the morning."
"Me too," said Ron right after Harry
Percy and Layla looked at each other "Party time!" they shouted. Heading off into the mob.
