10. When I Thought It Couldn't Get Worse...
Gasp
Sweat
Breath
Those seemed to be the only actions I was capable of displaying. Over and Over.
Where I was, I didn't know.
No, not where physically, but in this seemingly endless nightmare that scraped away at my only living sanity. Memories that seemed so wrong...yet so right?
Gasp
I sat up in a brutal manner. My eyes snapped open.
"Percy!"
I looked around wildly. Where am I? Annabeth?
My vision cleared up as reality snapped back at me.
"Oh Percy!" A girl wailed as coming into an embrace. "I didn't know if you were *sniff* ever gonna wake up and *sniff*. You just collapsed in screams and I I-I felt you were in pain. I-I didn't understand"
I sat there motionless in confusion. I was happy to be out of hell, but something just felt so wrong in these blankly white sheets and monotone room. I couldn't put my finger on it.
"I'm sorry. Who're you? Where am I? Wh-Where's Annabeth?"
The girl just looked taken aback as if someone had just arbitrarily slapped her in the face.
"Wh-at? Percy it's your sister," Abigail stated baffled. "Annabeth isn't here. She's back in the district. Are you feeling okay? I came to say my last goodbyes, but I-"
"ALL TRIBUTES HAVE ONE HALF HOUR UNTIL DEPARTURE," the PA practically screamed.
Tributes?
Wha-. Suddenly reality punched me in the face as my (real?) memories flooded in. Abigail. The games. Just a couple of days before "IT" starts. Annabeth is safe...for now anyway.
"Abigail," her face slightly fell in relief as I remembered her name. "What does it mean launch in an hour"
She bit her lip in frustration. "Shit. I don't have enough time." She looked at me in concern and anxiety. "Pretend I wasn't here. And get back to sleep, don't wake up"
What is she wearing? What is going on?
"Wha-," Was just what I was able to make out as Abigail attempted to open the door, shaking, before it opened as she reached for the handle.
Mahogany's bittersweet voice rung through the room. "Abigail! Late, LAte, LATE! We must be going! I know it's hard to leave him, but we really-" Her eyes trailed away from the door onto my ever still, energy deprived body. "OH, Lord! Change of plans. I-I must report this immediately!"
Abigail eyed me desperately in sorrow, pity, but most of all, fear.
"WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?" my feeble voice made out.
Everyone stared at me, reluctant to respond. It didn't take long before Jocelyn, the make up crew, and just about everyone else on the floor come rushing in to warn Abigail to start heading for departure?
"Percy-. You've been unconscious for days. They tried postponing things, but the capital wouldn't wait. Percy, the games are about to start," She already had tears making their way across her face.
She was just wearing trousers, a thin jacket, and boots. It could be described as something so common place, but this was worn in a way everyone knew. That outfit. The type of outfit only worn during survival.
Abigail nearly threw up, "The games are starting now!"
"ALL TRIBUTES HAVE TEN MINUTES UNTIL DEPARTURE"
